Full of Surprises

Summary:

Seriously, nobody knew Emily Prentiss liked girls?

Notes:

This was for me to test out writing for another fandom since I’ve mainly stuck with one fandom.

Work Text:

Morgan reread the file, distracted by what was on it and what Emily was saying. “Maybe she’s homosexual and she’s just covering it up because of the guilt that was instilled in her from a very young age.”

“That is a possibility. I remember there was this one girl I had a crush on – she knew it too, but didn’t say anything – so I got with this one boy who knew I liked girls and we worked something out.”

Morgan’s eyes immediately left the file and found Emily’s. Emily felt the intensity of the stare, fully aware of what it meant. Morgan wanted her to elaborate.

“It didn’t work out,” Emily rushes out, beginning with the safest route. “Mother had no clue, thankfully. The boy I mentioned, he and I were best friends. He’d practically cover up for me if I’d ask, you know?” Morgan nodded his head. “But, uh – he found out because he would always tease me on why I was the only one not talking about all of the hot guys on the football team. I think part of it had to do with how I was a nerd – I was more focused on books and school than the latest gossip or boys.

Anyway, it didn’t last... the relationship, I mean. My friends who weren’t in on our ‘fake dating’ called us out, said that real couples don’t act like that. I laughed at them. They were right though. He and I would make fun of all the other couples. It just didn’t work out. I knew that I liked girls and it was difficult faking.”

Morgan hums, letting his eyes linger on Emily’s face. “You’re the ‘no label’ type of girl, aren’t you?” he asked.

“Hey!” she exclaims, playfully slapping his hand. “I thought we talked about profiling me.”

He smiles mischievously. “Is this something you’ve always been interested in?”

Emily raised her eyebrow. “You mean–”

“Women.”

“It’s... different than when you’re with men.” Emily shrugged her shoulders. Morgan didn’t seem distracted anymore. He was completely interested in what she had to say. “It’s almost like if you and Reid–”

“Okay,” he drawled out, shoving Emily. “Thank you, princess. Goodbye, princess.”

“It was an example!”

“Hey,” JJ skims her hand across Emily’s shoulder. Emily was pouring herself coffee but was deep in thought as she was doing so.

“Oh, JJ. Hey.”

“You look a little out of it.”

“Yeah,” Emily agrees, fumbling for some napkins with one hand while the other held her cup of coffee.

JJ offers a small smile. “Wanna talk about it?”

“Morgan and I were talking about the case,” Emily starts to explain, “and we were sharing our thoughts. He had a theory about Kathryn Martin covering up how she was homosexual by putting herself in a heterosexual relationship.”

JJ perks up at that. “What were your thoughts?”

Emily sighs. “Actually, I was thinking the same thing. I just gave him some of my insight to aid in what we know about the unsub and why she’s killing these women.”

“Alright,” JJ nodded, although confused. “Wait... insight?”

“I told him about my experiences of fake dating a boy when I was crushing on a girl. At the same time, at that.”

“Wait,” JJ repeats, “you like girls?”

Emily narrows her eyes. “I do.”

“Oh, sweetheart,” JJ widens her eyes, raising her hands out in front of her. “No, I didn’t mean to offend you. I–I just... what?”

“It’s shocking, I know.”

“When did that happen?”

“What do you mean ‘when did that happen’?” Emily gapes at JJ. “Seriously, nobody knew I liked girls?”

“No! If anything, I figured you had issues with authority, mommy and daddy issues, pr–”

“Don’t you dare finish that sentence!”
