Chapter Text
Short legs ran through the forest as the little girl panted. The ground was all wet and muddy from the rain that kept pouring down from the dark-grey sky, but the child didn't dare stop. Not now.
They were still after her, she refused to go back. She refused to stand the torture any longer. The wind breezed through her thick hair that blew with the wind as she ran. It didn't take long before she eventually heard crossbows being shot in her direction. They were getting close. She needed to run faster.
The girl was getting tired, she couldn't keep up with this hunt much longer. She eventually reached the end the forest, now standing on a big cliff, just above a waterfall where it streamed icecold water. The child shuddered only by the thought of falling in, but she ahd no other choice if she didn't want to be captured.
"There she is! Come on!" the voices grew closer and with one last look behind her, the small girl jumped.
The humans behind her stopped at the end of the cliff, refusing to jump as they didn't feel like it was worth it. Nobody survived that fall, it was at least 80 feet down and the water was cold enough to paralyze you until you died from the cold. The child would die.
"Dr. Emilia will not be happy with this..." one of the humans said, it was a kinda buffy woman with short cut, dirty blonde hair.
The other human, a man with medel-dark brown hair, just sighed defeated as the two started walking back towards their hideout to inform their leader that their experiment had managed to escape, and probably wouldn't survive om her own. This world was far too dangerous for a girl her age without any knowledge to survive in.

The girl landed roughly into the lake under the waterfall, her head hitting s big stone as she was under water. She managed to swim back to the surface, taking many deep breathes as her body started panicking. The water was cold, too cold and she needed to get up before she would start to sink to the bottom of the lake and die. She was already tired and her muscles was getting too tired to move. Her world grew darker a she managed to get half her body out of the water, lying down on the ground. She was breathing fast and heavily when she suddenly heard footsteps moving closer to her.
'Oh no, they found me. I'll never be able to escape now..." the girl thought, closing her eyes as she didn't want to see the humans anymore.
"Hey! There's a child here, she needs help." a voice was heard shouting to some other humans, running up to the child as he picked her up.
The girl felt herself being wrapped in a lot of warm fabric as somebody carried her away from the lake. Her mind drifted away as she just gave up, she was going to die or keep living her life as a stupid experiment for the rest of her life, she just needed to accept her fate...
~~~
She woke up somewhere else. She felt warm and comfortable, she wasn't lying on a cold floor as she had used to. She was lying in a bed in a too light room, everything was white. It reminded her of the science burrow she had lived in before she managed to escape. The girl sat up in the bed only to notice a lot of needles being stuck in her arms and legs. There was an IV beside her, but she didn't know what it was and therefor started panicking.
Where was she? Who had taken her? Would they hurt her? All those thoughts rushed through her head and she fle tlile she couldn't breathe.
That was until the door opened and a man walked into the room. He had a white doctor-coat om him and his brown hair was slightly grey om the edges. He looked up at the small child with his ocean blue eyes, smiling softly as he got closer and sat down on a chair next to the bed.
"I'm glad you're finally awake. What is the last thing you remember?" the man asked with a gentle voice, it was soothing and made the girl feel safe, a lot safer than she had ever felt in years.
"I- Uhhhh...." the child started thinking, she had been chased, right...? Then she had jumped... "I jumped down the falls. It was cold."
The man nodded and wrote something down on a writing pad, she couldn't see what he wrote but she guessed that it was about her. After a minute or two, the man looked back at her with the same gentle smile.
"My name is Dr. Jensen, I'll help you and take care of you while you're here. Do you have a name that you'd want to give me?" the man asked.
The girl got quiet for a while, it was dangerous giving him her real name, since that would make it easier to find her and she didn't want to go back to the hell she had been living in. She needed to use either her fake-name or her nicknames that was nearly never used except for when she had been bullied by the other kids in the burrow. She decided to just go by the second choice. She looked back up to the man and their eyes met as she then looked back down on her lap, feeling uncomfortable with making eye contact with him. She took a deep breathe as she opened her mouth and answered his question.
"My name is Faith."
Let go! Let go of me!" the small child screamed as she was carried through the long corridor.
Her screams were ignored as she was, not so carefully, thrown into one of the room at the end of the corridor. As fast as she got up to her feet, the door was closed and locked and the child screamed and cried as she hit the door over and over again, feeling the panic rise in her chest. A voice was heard from the speaker and it disgusted her how manipulative it sounded.
"Stop trying to get out, Faith. There is nothing you can do to get out, and you know that. You're a smart girl after all. I'd appreciate if you didn't destroy the room once more. Have a good night."
The speaker was turned off and the child growled, barring her teeth angrily as she started scratching all over the room. Eventually, every wall was covered in scratches and Faith for once felt very proud of herself. She had done something she wasn't supposed to and Dr. Emilia wouldn't be able to fix it. She soflty grinned to herself as she laid down on the ground, trying to fall asleep though she knew that this would be another restless night for her.
