Kisses In The Rain

Summary:

Part of my Kissing Prompt Series on Tumblr
Eret thinks he screwed up. But Hiccup coming after him shows him how wrong he was.

Work Text:

His feet splashed in the puddles along the way as Eret hurried down the street. He had no goal, just kept going as raindrops dripped down his neck and made him shiver. Around him, the world seemed to drown, and somehow, that was oddly fitting. Maybe it would be considerate for once and drown his feelings, too.

But no, things never were that easy. He couldn’t help what his heart wanted, so the only solution was to leave and—maybe, hopefully, eventually—forget about them.

Pulling his shoulders up to his ears, he marched on when he heard the noise from behind him. Another pair of footsteps, hurrying through the rain. They quickly came closer, and Eret knew that trying to get away or to hide was useless.

"Eret, wait," Hiccup gasped, just as Eret stopped moving.

Turning around, he was suddenly incredibly grateful for the rain running down his face. It would mask any tears.

Despite the rain, Hiccup's eyes were wide as he looked at him, his chest heaving from running so fast.

I wonder how he hadn't slipped on the wet ground with his prosthetic, Eret mused, deliberately distracting himself from more pressing thoughts. How ridiculously pretty Hiccup was for example, especially with those flushed cheeks. Or how wet the rain left his lips, shining in the dim light. Just as kissable as before when Eret had lost control for only a second. Gods, why did he have to be so stupid?

"What do you want?" Eret asked, a little more gruffly than intended. Lashing out at Hiccup wasn't fair. It wasn’t his fault.

"I... I want..." Hiccup trailed off, biting his lip. Then he breached the remaining distance between them with one quick step and kissed him.

Eret grunted in surprise as Hiccup's arms wrapped around his neck, holding him close. His lips were cool against his own, yet searing hot at the same time, touching something deep deep within him.

Suddenly, his wet clothes and the cool night didn't matter anymore. All that mattered was the warmth radiating from Hiccup as he pressed himself against his chest, the heat Eret felt inside, his heart glowing with joy. Without his help, his own arms wound around Hiccup as he returned the kiss, opening his mouth to Hiccup's insistent lips.

He was hesitant, his tongue poking out to meet Hiccup's own, but Hiccup would have none of that. The kiss grew demanding and fierce without warning, drawing a low groan from Eret's throat.

Was he dreaming? Only minutes before, he'd made a fool of himself by kissing Hiccup without a warning, and the shocked look on Hiccup's face had told him all he'd needed to know. That Hiccup didn't feel the same for Eret, that he'd never thought of him in this way, that he wasn't interested. Or so Eret had thought.

But here now they were, in the pouring rain, kissing after Hiccup had run after him.

Laughter and joy bubbled up in Eret, and he grew more eager, pulling Hiccup tighter and letting his tongue move with Hiccup's without hesitation. He didn't even feel the rain anymore.

"Stay," Hiccup gasped as they parted, his eyes beaming with an inner fire that left Eret speechless. "Please, Eret. Please, stay."

All he could do was nod.
