What You Wish For

Summary:

After changing Kamoshida's heart, the Phantom Thieves of Hearts were officially born! However, people do not believe they exist, and many who do see them as a dangerous vigilante group. Now, Izuku must find the Phantom Thieves another target to prove that he and his friends are just, but it won't be easy.

Meanwhile, the Sports Festival is on the horizon, and the new heroes are eager to prove themselves. But, villains lurk in the background, and no one is sure when or how they will strike next.

Notes:

This takes place right after "Life Will Change" so go read that first if you haven't. This is a mini series depicting the Sports Festival arc. The Madarame arc will be called "Colors Flying High" and will be a completely separate story. I decided to change it, so "Colors Flying High" wouldn't be insanely long.

Chapter 1: Go Forward, Heroes!

Chapter Text

A group of pro heroes were having a meeting about villains, and how to proceed.

“The police are investigating two groups: one known as the League of Villains and another newly formed vigilante group known as the Phantom Thieves of Hearts,” Detective Tsukauchi explained, to the other heroes in the conference room. “Both incidents occurred simultaneously, but the police have found no link between each incident, and believe that the groups have no connection to each other. Furthermore, we do not know what methods the Phantom Thieves used, but we do have a basic understanding of what the League of Villains attempted to do that day.”

“How is it possible to change a heart? There were no reports of a quirk being used, and the victim seemed just as oblivious as we are,” Toshinori questioned.

“Despite the current investigations, no use of a quirk has been proven, which has caused the police to speculate on some kind of alternate method. However, the victim has not described being coerced into everything, only admitting to their crimes, and wishing to atone for his actions. The crimes have been proven to be true, which makes me believe that we may be dealing with a group of vigilantes instead of villains, since no harm was done to his person or anyone else’s. This is further proven by how all of those harmed by Kamoshida are grateful the Phantom Thieves put a stop to his immoral behavior. However, no one in Shujin Academy is aware of their methods, only that calling cards were posted around the school before the incident occurred later that day.”

“Could a quirk have been used on the calling cards?” Midnight asked.

“The police have carefully investigated them, but all our officers remained normal after being in contact. It’s almost like Kamoshida became a completely different person, which makes me believe that the Phantom Thieves did something to his mind to make him realize how horrible his actions were, and confess his crimes,” Detective Tsukauchi summarized.

“I believe the Phantom Thieves of Hearts are on our side, however, they are vigilantes, so we must be prepared to deal with them, if it ever deems necessary. For all we know, this is a one-time occurrence, and it’s hard to track down vigilantes who might have an alternate method besides quirks at their disposal,” Principal Nedzu stated.

“Agreed. For now, we will switch our conversation over to the League of Villains who are a much more dangerous threat we need to concern ourselves with.”

The heroes proceeded to discuss the League of Villains, and specifically their terrifying leader, Shigaraki Tomura.

Because of USJ, UA was temporarily closed down. However, it didn’t take too long to reopen, and classes resumed like normal despite the chaos. Eijiro Kirishima arrived to class, and sat next to his best friend, Katsuki Bakugou like usual while waiting for Aizawa to arrive.

“Did you hear about the Phantom Thieves? People are saying they changed a villain’s heart and made them confess their crimes!” Kaminari chimed.

“I can’t believe they can just deal with villain so easily. That’s so manly! Imagine if heroes could to that! Villains wouldn’t stand a chance!” Eijiro commented.

“They are just cowards. Why change a heart when you can just take the villain head-on?” Bakugou remarked.

“They aren’t heroes, so they can’t legally go after villains,” Uraraka pointed out. “I think it’s really brave of them to even try, especially since they are probably normal people.”

“The change of heart took place at Shujin Academy, which makes me believe the incident took place there. But the students are all quirkless,” Yaoyorozu mused.

“There are rumors it wasn’t a quirk that caused the change of heart. Could they have found another way?” Ashido said.

“Either way, they are vigilantes, and vigilantism cannot be tolerated!” Iida lectured.

“No heroes were at the scene. Perhaps, they felt like they had no choice,” Todoroki suggested.

“Why are we talking about a bunch of quirkless losers, anyway!? We took on a bunch of villains, and won! A single quirkless extra is nothing compared to that!” Bakugou loudly exclaimed.

“Stop talking and take your seats!” Iida shouted, at the front of the classroom.

“You are the only one talking.”

“All of us are already sitting down!”

Iida embarrassingly approached his desk, and sat down alongside the rest of the class.

A few minutes later after talking amongst themselves, Aizawa finally entered the classroom, looking worse than usual due to his body being covered in bandages, because of the damage he took at USJ.

“Are you all right, sensei?” Iida questioned.

“My being ‘all right’ doesn’t matter. More importantly, the fight isn’t over,” Aizawa said.

“Fight?” Bakugou asked.

“You don’t mean-” Eijirou stated, realizing the importance of Aizawa sensei’s statement.

“The UA Sports Festival is drawing near!”

“That’s a normal school event!” the entire class exclaimed.

(Take Your Time)

The Sports Festival was a big deal, and it would give themselves an opportunity to show-off to the rest of the world, including pro heroes. That meant it was Eijirou’s time to show everyone what he’s got, and prove to All Might that he was manly enough to be a good successor for his quirk! He would win this!

“Shitty Hair,” Bakugou stated, catching his attention.

“What’s up?”

“If you want to win, you’re going to have to go through me,” Bakugou said, with a toothy grin.

“I’m going to give it everything I’ve got!”

The thought of Bakugou being his opponent made it even more thrilling, because he knew how strong Bakugou was having spared against him multiple times, and lost. Bakugou was also the only other person who knew he had One For All since he was his best friend, which made going all-out even more thrilling.

Eijirou normally did not use One For All as much as his hardening quirk, but Bakugou wanted a challenge, so he would get one.

(Take Your Time)

Katsuki trained after school, giving it everything he got. He knew Shitty Hair wouldn’t go easy on him, and he planned on being the victor, because if he couldn’t win this stupid event, then becoming number one was an impossible dream. All Might did much cooler things in his youth, and Katsuki would surpass him in every way!

However, that was not the only reason. He also wanted to show Deku how much of a great hero he was. Deku could never become a hero, but Katsuki would accomplish that dream for him. Not that he cared about the nerd or anything. He just wanted to win, and that was what he would do.

Hopefully, the nerd would be watching, because Katsuki was going to go all-out, and show him why they could never be equals. A part of him wanted to text Deku, but he decided against it, because assuming Deku was still a nerd, there was no doubt he would watch the Sports Festival live.

Katsuki remembered a conversation he had with the old hag one evening.

“Inko came over earlier. She said that Izuku is doing great in Shibuya, not that you’d care, since you are a brat,” Mom told him.

“You wanna fight old hag!?”

“What I want is for you to say ‘hi’ to your friend! You haven’t seen him since he left, and I’m sure he misses you, Katsuki. So, either call him, or go visit him yourself.”

“Why should I? I doubt Deku wants anything to do with me.”

“Inko said he misses you very much, and will be watching you on TV. Even though you are a little shit, he still cares for you, so the least you can do is acknowledge his existence. I’m not asking for much, Katsuki. I just want you to be courteous for once in your live.”

“I’ll visit him this Summer when I don’t have to focus on school. But, don’t expect us to be friends again.”

That was the end of that conversation. Katsuki scoffed at the memory. What was Deku like now, anyway? It has been over a month since they had last seen each other, and their last meeting wasn’t exactly a pleasant one. Katsuki expected and wanted Deku to hate him, but that didn’t seem to be the case at all, assuming that what the hag said was not an exaggeration. Had Deku changed at all since then, or was he still the same nerd he had known since they were four? A part of him was curious, which was why he agreed to the hag’s demands at all.

There was also the fact that Shujin Academy was the same place the change of heart took place. Deku just arrived, and something like that happened. What rotten luck. Katsuki dissed the Phantom Thieves, but was glad someone dealt with that Kamoshida bastard. Katsuki would have destroyed him himself if he was there. He had a feeling this was not the last change of heart, and that the Phantom Thieves would return. The question was when and who their next target would be.

Regardless, Katsuki would not be outdone by a group of vigilantes. He already defeated plenty of villains, and he was not even a pro yet. They had to step up their game if they wanted to surpass him. He was Katsuki Bakugou, the future number one hero, dammit!

Katsuki looked at the clock, and realized it was getting late. He headed back to his room, and rested up while mentally preparing himself for what was to come.

Chapter 2: Sports Festival Part 1: I Am Here!!!

Summary:

The Phantom Thieves watch the Sports Festival together, and Izuku sees Kacchan for the first time since he got probation. Thanks to Ann, Izuku has a realization about himself.

Notes:

Do not expect the Sports Festival to be exactly the same as canon, because Midoriya is not a part of it this time. He is just watching.

Chapter Text

Iida threw open the door, alerting all of Class 1A’s students in the room.

“Everyone, are you ready? We will be entering soon!” Iida announced.

Many of the students were nervous, but Eijirou was pumped up! The Sports Festival would be the first time the good people of Japan saw him fight as the hero Red Riot, and it would also be the chance to show how much he has improved to All Might. Okay, he was nervous, but he would handle it like a man, and face the challenge head-on! Plus Ultra!!!

“Kirishima.”

Eijirou looked over, and saw that the voice came from Todoroki.

“What is it, man?” Eijirou asked.

“Looking at things objectively, I think I am stronger than you.”

“Don’t be so sure about that. You aren’t the only one who has been training!”

Eijirou never used One For All in combat against any of his classmates before, because of the damage it does to his body. However, he has better control over it thanks to All Might’s training, so he feels confident to show it off a little. But, he would only use it against really strong opponents like Todoroki, so he does not overwhelm his body too quickly.

“All Might has his eye on you, doesn't he? I’ll try not to pry about that. But, I’m going to beat you.” Todoroki stated.

So, Todoroki suspected, huh? It was only a matter of time a classmate besides Bakugou found out, because Eijirou always went to do All Might’s training program after classes. But, Todoroki just challenged him, and Eijirou never backed down from a fight!

“Bring it on! I will fight you with all I’ve got!” Eijirou exclaimed.

“You better,” Todoroki said, before walking away.

His classmates muttered to each other about the declaration of war. It made sense they were excited about it, because Todoroki was one of the most powerful students in the class, and for him to challenge anyone to a fight was a big deal. However, Eijirou was strong as well, and had some trump-cards up his sleeve. His One For All training was not just for show!

(Take Your Time)

Izuku excitedly sat at the table, and Ryuji, Ann, and Morgana joined him, along with Sojiro who watched from the counter.

“I can’t believe it’s finally happening!” Izuku exclaimed.

“You seem pretty excited about this,” Sojiro commented.

“Of course I am! This is the first time we are going to get to see the next generation of heroes in action! And best of all, Kacchan will be there! I can’t wait to see how much he has improved since going to UA!”

“Kacchan?” Ryuji asked.

“Oh, his name is Katsuki Bakugou. Kacchan is just a nickname from when we were kids. He got into UA, but I ended up going to Shujin instead, so this is the first time I will have seen him since transferring.”

“A hero-in0training, huh? I wonder what these heroes are capable of,” Morgana mused.

That’s right, this will be the first time Morgana sees heroes, as well.

“I hope Midnight will be there. She, along with Mount Lady, are my favorite heroes!” Ann excitedly said.

“All Might is my favorite, though I doubt he would appear at something like this. What about you, Ryuji?” Izuku stated.

“I think Endeavor’s pretty cool. He actually saved my mom once awhile back. I wish I could meet him, so I could thank him.”

“If only I could meet All Might… I wonder if…”

“Izuku?” Ann questioned.

“N-Never-mind! Forget I said anything!”

Izuku wondered if All Might would approve of him being the leader of the Phantom Thieves, despite them being vigilantes. Would All Might think of him as an ally of the heroes, or as a vigilante that needed to be brought to justice? Izuku didn’t know if he’d even have the courage to ask given the opportunity.

Suddenly, the Sports Festival began, snapping Izuku out of his troubled thoughts.

“Hey! Pay attention, audience! Swarm, mass media! This year’s rodeo of adolescents you all love; the UA Sports Festival is about to begin! Everybody, are you ready!? It’s time for the students to enter the first-year stage!” Present Mic exclaimed.

The heroes stepped forward. Izuku’s eyes scanned the group, and immediately landed on Kacchan.

“There he is!” Izuku exclaimed, pointing at the blond.

“Now, I finally got a face behind the name,” Morgana said.

Izuku hadn’t seen Kacchan in so long. Just by looking, Izuku could tell Kacchan had grown a lot since they had last met. Now, Izuku would finally get to see how much. What did Kacchan’s hero costume look like? Did his quirk get even stronger? Were any of those people next to him his friends? Did he defeat any real villains during the attack on USJ? Did he-”

“Izuku, you’re mumbling,” Ryuji stated.

“S-Sorry!”

“Don’t sweat it, man. It must be overwhelming seeing your friend, after so long. You gotta tell us some stories later.”

“O-Okay!”

That’s right, he actually had friends to talk to, now. He still wasn’t completely used to it, but was very grateful regardless.

Fireworks exploded into rays of color, lighting up the arena.

“The UA Sports Festival! The huge battle where fledgling heroes sharpen their swords once a year! These are the guys, right!? The miraculous new stars overcame enemy attacks with their hearts of steel! Hero Class 1A, right!?” Present Mic exclaimed.

“I couldn’t imagine being a student, and having to fight actual villains,” Ann commented.

“We have fought Shadows before,” Ryuji added.

“But, we had our personas to help us. Here, we don’t have quirks, so we would be powerless against real villains. I’m surprised the students all made it out without any major injuries.”

“I’m sure they are all really strong since they are Kacchan’s classmates,” Izuku said.

“They haven’t been getting as much airtime, but this class is also full of talent! Hero Class 1B! Next up, General Studies C, D, and E! Support Classes F, G, and H are all here, too! And Business Course I, J, and K! All of UA’s first years are here now!” Present Mic introduced.

Midnight made herself known, and Ann squealed.

“She’s here! She’s here!” Ann quickly stated.

“Heroes, huh? They all look like a bunch of nobodies to me,” Sojiro remarked.

“You don’t like heroes?” Izuku asked.

“As a normal civilian, heroes just cause more problems by fighting villains, so I’d prefer it if they stayed away from Shibuya. Though, I would gladly accept any of them as my customers. A cafe like this could use that publicity.”

“Time for the player pledge!” Midnight said.

She gained the attention of everyone immediately, though that was mostly because of her outfit, which Izuku did not feel comfortable commenting on, so he would leave it at that.

“H-Holy smokes…” Ryuji muttered.

“I thought my Panther outfit was revealing, but she takes it on a whole other level!” Ann remarked.

“I think you are more beautiful than her, Lady Ann,” Morgana said.

“Quiet, everyone! Representing the students of Class 1A is Katsuki Bakugou!” Midnight announced, unconsciously making Izuku lean forward to see the screen better.

Kacchan was the representative? That meant UA saw him as worthy of the honor. No surprise there, since that was Kacchan, after all. The real question was what exactly Kacchan was going to say. With Kacchan, there was no telling what words would come out of his mouth.

The entirety of both the arena and Leblanc went silent as they prepared to listen to Kacchan’s words.

“I pledge… that I’ll be number one.”

“Seriously!?” Ryuji exclaimed, in surprise.

“That’s Kacchan for you,” Izuku muttered.

“Your friend has a pretty large ego,” Morgana stated.

“Not much different than someone else we know,” Ryuji muttered.

“Hey!”

“Boys, stop fighting,” Ann ordered.

He expected no less. Kacchan truly had no fear. Izuku would never have the courage to say something like that, especially with such a huge audience. But if anyone could win the Sports Festival, it would be Kacchan.

That immediately started an uproar with the other UA students. Kacchan just made enemies out of all the students in his grade, and didn’t seem even slightly nervous about that fact. Kacchan truly was something.

“Why say something so disgraceful!” a classmate with classes shouted.

“At least become a nice bouncy step for me to jump off,” Kacchan spat.

“Izuku, you are friends with this guy?” Morgana asked.

Izuku didn’t answer the question, and just held his head low. Way to leave a question oh his friends, Kacchan.

“Now, let’s get started right away. The first game is what you call a qualifier! Every year, many drink their tears here! Here is the first fateful game!” Midnight announced. “This year it is… this!”

The screen showed the words ‘Obstacle Race.’ How would UA create something like that? Izuku anticipated it, and how Kacchan would overcome his first challenge.

“All eleven classes will participate in this race. The course will be the outer circumference of the stadium; about four kilometers! Our school’s selling point is freedom! As long as you stay on the course, it doesn’t matter what you do! Now, take your places, everyone!” Midnight said.

The students gathered by a door, and braced themselves as it slowly opened

“Start!”

All of the students dashed through the door as quickly as they could manage, so they could try and get a head-start.

“Okay, here’s the play-by-play! Are you ready to do the commentary, Mummy Man?” Present Mic asked, someone sitting next to him.

“You’re the one who asked me to come.”

“Do you know who that is?” Ann asked.

“I can’t tell by the voice alone, but I assume they are another teacher,” Izuku answered.

“Let’s get started right away, Mummy Man. What should we pay attention to in the early stages?” Present Mic questioned.

“This part right now.”

Ice covered the door’s exit, and a student with white and red hair ran out, making it harder for other students to move in the process. However, a few others used their quirks in creative ways, including Kacchan, to escape the crowd.

“It’ll take more than that to stop Kacchan,” Izuku said.

“You really look up to him,” Morgana commented.

“Of course I do! Kacchan is so smart and talented. If anyone has the potential to become Number One, it’s him, so how could I not?”

“Izuku, do you have a crush?” Ann asked.

Izuku’s world suddenly came to a halt as a fuze in his brain exploded.

“W-Where did you get that idea from!? K-Kacchan is just my childhood friend! I do not have a crush on him! A-And even if I did, there’s no way he would ever like me back!”

“You just reminded me of how I was back before I asked Shiho out.”

“L-Lady Ann, you’re-”

“Lesbian? Yeah, she totally is. She was dating Shiho, before everything happened with you-know-who,” Ryuji stated.

Morgana looked pale, as if all hope was absorbed from his soul.

Ann was a lesbian? Izuku never would have known, if she hadn’t told him. Not like it mattered, anyway. Izuku would want her to be his friend, regardless. But, that raised another important question: was Izuku gay? He never actually thought about it. So much happened that he never really got time to think about things like that.

“Ann, I think you broke him,” Ryuji said.

“Perhaps, I should have been more careful with how I asked.”

The Sports Festival continued on in the background, but Izuku was too self-absorbed at the moment to pay attention.

The students did their best to charge full-speed ahead and avoid any traps their fellow classmates laid out, but they eventually encountered robots that were ten times bigger than their size, and one even sent a purple-haired student flying.

How will the young heroes get past such powerful adversaries? Will Izuku pull himself together in-time, so he can see for himself? Find out next time!!!

Notes:

So yeah, there will be bakudeku in this series eventually. It will be a slow-burn just like how Horikoshi sensei does it. Bakugou will get a bigger role, however, that will not be until around Summer break at the earliest, so don't expect anything soon. Both the BNHA and Persona 5 plotlines need to move forward a bit beforehand. I have plans for him to be a key figure in Strikers and Royal when I do those someday, so he will get plenty of screen-time when the time comes.
