Work Text:
He was so hard to get close to...but once you did he was perhaps the best person in the world to be around. She was so thankful they met. He was so soft spoken and sweet. He made her feel like the world rose and fell with her smile.
She’d never felt like that before…
And she did her best to make sure that he felt just the same.
Because the sun did rise and fall with him in her eyes.
Her Tamaki.
She will forever be so, SO grateful that her cousin, Mirio, had been right that they would be perfect together and introduced them.
That was three years ago now and she and Tamaki were living together as he worked as a hero. She smiled softly as she prepared her surprise for him. His birthday was today. This wasn’t something huge...no, Tamaki was more of a one on one celebrator...he still hated crowds. And after a long day of working out amongst the masses of the public he liked to come home to a warm hug, a soft kiss, and time alone with his girlfriend.
He still took her out on dates, they had a date night out once or twice a month. That seemed so sparse to some of her friends...but she preferred date nights in with him. He was so much more open and relaxed in private than in public. He was working on his social anxiety, more for himself and his lasting happiness than to just make her happy, but it was slow going and she wasn’t expecting miracles after just a few months. She supported him in this journey of self help that he chose to go on.
He hated the idea of large crowds...and she was a musician and lover of music...and after his forcing himself to attend a rock concert (of a band he also enjoyed) with her (early on in the relationship) and being so panicky and jittery that he nearly passed out…she told him that he didn’t have to go to concerts or places that made him feel that freaked out. She could go to concerts with her best friends and they could go to museums and things like that...one of her favorite date ideas before and after dating him. Just because it was a smaller or quieter crowd doesn’t mean she’s not having fun.
She wasn’t truly sacrificing anything really. She loved him. And she compromised. That’s what you do when you love someone. He did the same for her.
She smiled softly as she finished setting the table. Lighting the candles to give it that truly romantic ambiance just before he walked in. She could tell he was there...her quirk of having super hearing...helped with that. He looked at her and what she had set up and chuckled. She was so cute.
She had their kitchen table covered in a royal purple tablecloth, three candles in holders she had just lit. A “Happy Birthday” banner hung on the cabinets. Large wine glasses and their best silverware...or rather just the spoons.
Because what she had out to eat were a huge tub of each of their favorite ice cream flavors, some whipped cream, various toppings (peanuts, sprinkles, chocolate chips), sauces of the chocolate and caramel variety, maraschino cherries to top it all off.
She walked over and gave him a tight hug.
“What’s all this?” He asked.
“It’s your birthday party, silly.” She giggled and pecked his lips, “A sweet treat for a sweetheart.”
He smiled and kissed her softly.
“Ice cream for dinner, though? You’re usually so health conscious.” He teased.
“Well, it’s a celebration.” She laughed and drug him over and they sat in their chairs, side by side.
“I love you, you goof.” He said with a smile.
“I love you too.” She said giggling.
She began to serve them up their ice cream sundaes. And based on his gentle smile she knew that this was indeed the perfect birthday date for her best guy.
A sweet treat for a sweetheart of a guy.
