Work Text:
It happened so fast. Their steps were quick, still walking but on the verge of jogging. Gladio and Prompto were waiting for them just down the hill from the gas station they’d stopped at. They had gone down to quickly scout their prey while Ignis and Noctis ducked into the little market to grab some supplies. A few drinks for Noctis to turn into curatives and they were on their way.
The ground was slick from rain, so when Noctis hopped the guardrail, his feet slipped and he went tumbling. Or he would have if his flailing arms hadn’t snatched Ignis’s shirt sleeve and Ignis’s quick reflexes hadn’t taken hold of his falling body. Ignis spun Noctis around and pulled him close to stabilize him. Once it was clear Noctis was solidly on his feet, he should have let go.
But he didn’t.
Noctis didn’t either.
The stood there, bodies pressed close as Noctis clung to Ignis’s arm and Ignis kept an arm around Noctis’s waist protectively.
And they stared at each other. Each seemingly looking for something in the other’s eyes. Ignis wasn’t sure what he was looking for. It was something that he had never been able to find the words for. Something he knew he wanted but never dared to dream he could have.
“Iggy…?”
That single word snapped Ignis back to Eos and out of the depths of Noctis’s brilliant blue eyes. He blinked but said nothing.
“Your heart is beating really fast…”
“Is it…?”
“Yeah.”
Their words were whispered and slow. Noctis didn’t seem hurried or bothered at this situation they had found themselves in. He could feel Ignis’s heartbeat despite not physically touching the area. As the moment stretched, Ignis realized Noctis’s heart was beating the same: fast and expectant.
Even though Ignis still couldn’t find the words for the one thing he had always wanted, he did eventually manage to pull out enough to convey a fraction of what he wanted to Noctis.
“Noct, would it be alright if I—”
“Yes.”
Words interrupted, thoughts unfinished, and Ignis leaned in to bring lips to lips. Somehow, he would have expected to treat a first kiss with Noctis gently. Quick kisses or soft ones. This was neither of those. There was a fierce passion that erupted between them and Ignis wondered how he had ever lived without knowing those lips.
A hand found purchase behind his head, fingers carding through un-styled locks. His own hand held tighter to Noctis’s waist, pulling their bodies as close to each other as possible. Would Noctis accept this not-so-subtle invitation? The moan that radiated through Ignis’s mouth as their groins pressed together indicated he was.
He would always wonder how long they stood in that spot. How much time had passed before Noctis said his name? How long did they stand together, saying without words the feelings both had held for the other for so long? How far would they have gone in that spot, open to the road, the animals, and all of Eos had the others not interrupted? Ignis was ashamed to say it probably would have gone pretty far as intense as those feelings were.
But interrupted they were but the click of a camera and a disgruntled “Oi!” They parted quickly, putting a few feet between each other, and both very red. This was neither the time nor place to express their love for each other as such. There was a hunt to be done and privacy to be obtained. That would come later. For now, they sent shy glances towards each other as they followed their friends down the hill where the sabertusks they were after lived.
