Let Anger Lie

Summary:

A look at a teen boy's experience with handling anger.

Notes:

I think I was 15 when I wrote this. I can't really remember what inspired it. I'm guessing I had just been taught how anger is a secondary emotion in therapy. There was a lot of fighting at home as well.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Let's scream

Lose control over what we say

Let's fight

We can forgive another day

Let's leave

Forget the love we shared

Let's hate

Pretend that we don't care

Why can't people see

Anger is just a mask that hides

All the sorrow, fear, and hurt

We keep buried deep inside

I have never been mad at you

I just didn't want you to see when I cry

Because people don't like to feel weak

So they let anger lie

We'll run

Try to fight the raging emotions

We'll wonder

Are we drowning in an ocean

We'll cry

Hearts aching with the pain

We'll regret

Broken connections in our brains

I can finally see

I'm done hiding

I'll overcome my hate

Let go of the dark that is blinding

I'm not giving up this time

I'll let you see me cry

Release the rage I hold inside

Tonight I'm letting anger die
