Chapter 1: Camilo has an idea

Chapter Text

It was Camilo who pitched the idea of a family games night. In hindsight, his relatives should have anticipated what kind of game he was planning when he insisted on playing it after Antonio went to bed. When everyone had taken their seats, they were each given a bottle of tequila and a shot glass.

“The rules are simple,” Camilo explained as he made a round around the table, placing a shot glass in front of each adult. "It's truth or dare. If you chose dare, you MUST perform the dare to the best of your ability, but if you chose truth, you must answer honestly and just to spice things up," he said, pausing dramatically. "The grownups have to take a shot!"

“But what is the point of this game?” Abuela asked. For the love of God, she couldn't understand her grandson's grand scheme.

Surprisingly, Camilo's expression softened. "Getting to know one another." This family has serious communication problems. This seems like a fun and unique way to approach and talk about sensitive topics. It's fine if you don't want to. "I'm not going to pour booze down your throats," he said as he crossed his arms and swung back on his chair.

There was a murmur of agreement as everybody realised they needed to bond more. Camilo pounced at the idea of everyone agreeing and decided it was best to start the game.

"So Tía Juli, Truth or dare?"

"Truth" She responded picking up her shot glass and downing it in once earning an unimpressed stare from Abuela.

"OK, what's one thing you would change about Tío Agustín if you had the choice," Camilo asked chancing a glance at Agustín to see if he'd be mad but he was greeted with a look of curiosity.

"Hmm there's nothing I want to change, but I suppose that's not part of the game, so I guess I'd change your clumsiness. Sorry, mi amor." She shrugged leaning up to place a peck on her husband's cheek. In which he responded with a shrug and laid his cheek upon her head.

"OK well it's your turn to pick on someone Tía Juli, let's make this the best game night ever!"

"Well, okay... Bruno. truth or dare?"

Bruno put on his hood. “Bruno’s not here... Fine...uh....dare I guess?"

A series of 'oohs' and 'ahhs' erupted from the table, signaling that it was time for the first dare. Julieta paused for a while, trying to come up with anything that would truly humiliate her brother. It was time for retaliation every time she ordered him to keep those pesky rats out of her kitchen and they still managed to scurry their way in and eat her scrumptious goodies. Just as she'd thought of the greatest revenge, Isabella had decided she also had one.

"I dare you to have a romantic dance with one of your rats"

"What?! No, they're my family! I will not. Besides, Pluto can't dance" Bruno cried, whilst indicating to one of the rats whose name appeared to be pluto. "I will not dance with my rats."

"But it's part of the game you have to, please" Mirabel begged, showing her Tío the best puppy dog eyes she could muster.
"FINE! But only for 30 seconds."

With that Bruno stood up and gently allowed his rat to run along his arms and began a slow dance around the room all whilst keeping his eyes as far away from his family as he could. He'd actually quite enjoyed the dance but he wouldn't tell anyone. Ever.

"Well, I guess it's my turn now....so madre, truth or dare?
