Work Text:
Hinata grumbled, sitting up from his place in his bed. The albino beside him still rested peacefully, very soft and delicate snores coming from him. The brunette sighed tiredly, pushing the covers off of him and getting out of bed. He was sure to be quiet, not wanting to disturb the other and bother him while he was simply just getting ready for work. The brown haired male brought his clothes over to the restroom, then taking his time to get ready.
By the time he was done with the tiresome process, at five in the morning, mind you, he grabbed a sticky note from the counter and wrote on it. He didn’t do this very much every morning, but it was something Komaeda did for him each and every single day; it was a very sweet gesture every time so why not give that a try himself? He had a bit of time before he had to leave. Hajime smiled to himself as he wrote the note, finishing it up a bit happily before sticking it onto the fridge, in a clear and open spot where it would be noticed. The sticky note was bright, neon green, so the color would be very easy to differ from whatever else was pinned to the fridge. And there wasn’t exactly much on the fridge in the first place, so when Nagito would awaken and walk into the kitchen area he would be guaranteed to see it. With that, Hajime would then leave; bound to dread the next few hours just for a sixteen-per-hour job.
Only around eight hours later, the brunette would be complete with work; driving home, relief overflowing him past the brim. He knew Komaeda didn’t have a job, due to how much money he had earned due to lucky experiences he didn’t believe that he even needed a job in the first place. But Hinata still worked, trying to keep up a living instead of depending on a couple million for the rest of his life. He’d only be working like this up until he’s in his thirties, at least that was what he planned. From then on they would depend on and rely on the money Nagito earned because of pure luck. By then they’d have maybe another million, he guessed. Should do quite well for the next couple of years from then on. So, Nagito just stayed at home for the entire day, only going out for things like groceries and supplies they needed or wanted. Any other time was only if the other two would want to go out together, but for the most part they stayed in their cozy little home and cuddled.
Hinata finally arrived home, parking up on the driveway carefully and hurrying out of the car. The car that Komaeda for the most part owned himself was gone, so the brown haired boy assumed he was out and getting something. He trailed over to the door, unlocking it and heading inside; instantly he headed for the kitchen, to find just as he had expected to find. There was a sticky note left by the fluffy haired boy. It was bright neon pink, the beautiful handwriting taking place on it drawing Hinata into reading it.
‘Hi Hajime! I figured out a cute nickname for you; Hajibae? Does that work? Heh, I can practically see your flustered face!! ♡
But, anyways, can we pleaseee get a bunny or twenty? I know you’re allergic to dogs so that’s not an option, so why not bunnies! They’re really cute! I saw one on an animal shelter website that looked exactly like you but if you were a bunny! And there was a white one so maybe that would remind you of me?
Please! Bunnies would be fun!
Love, Komaeda!’
Hajime chuckled, however unsure of how he felt about the request. It sounded like a sweet idea, sure, but the only thing keeping him back from getting any was the entire process and difficulty of taking care of one; much more twenty of the little animals. He knew that bunnies had rather… Annoying and scattered little pieces of feces, and that was rather gross. Not the best of choices but, he supposed that it was just like any animal.
“Fine, maybe just three of them for now,” Hinata sighed, a slight smile brightening his face. He brought the little note to the stash of notes the brunette kept, all of them being written by Nagito himself. There were around maybe forty to fifty of them, these only being the ones that Hajime loved most. So basically, 95% of the notes he wrote, the tan boy kept. After putting that away, he then realized; Nagito hadn’t told him where he had gone. That was certainly odd… Maybe it was simply just because the albino was so excited or anxious about that note that he forgot to list where he had gone as he usually did. Nonetheless, the tan boy sighed and changed into more comfortable clothing to instead go out in that. Though the brunette wasn’t particularly going to go out right now. He only planned on doing that once Komaeda got back, so they could go and look for bunnies together. With a soft and light chuckle, Hinata rested himself on the couch and turned on the living room T.V for the time being. It only took around ten to twenty minutes for his husband to return home, three bags of groceries being weakly held by him.
“Hajime!” He called out happily, instantly placing the bags down as he noticed the spiky haired boy sitting on the couch, dashing over to hug him. “Did you, er- see the note?” He then chuckled nervously, receiving a hair ruffling from the other boy. “Yes, and quite honestly I think it would be a great idea to adopt a few bunnies,” the tan boy nodded his head with an elegant smile, “however we will not get twenty of them. Maybe just around five, since we should both know they could be difficult to handle,” he would then add with a light laugh. Nagito rolled his eyes with a bit of a dorky smile, letting go of the other to then bring his attention to those groceries that he brought home, “Okay, fine,” he hummed, the ‘y’ being stretched out a bit, “I’ll just put these away and then we can go to that one animal shelter I saw the bunnies on. Hopefully they’re still there.” The cloudette went over to the bags, picking them up again and bringing them into the kitchen to put them away.
Hinata stood up from the comforting couch, stretching out his limbs tiredly. He trailed into the kitchen as the other boy would begin putting the things he’d bought away. “What did you even have to run out to get?” The brown haired male asked, his eyes narrowed and tilted. “Oh! Just some coffee supplies and some pasta, since I thought we needed them,” the slightly taller one responded, holding up a medium sized tub of coffee powder, “I mean, we were almost out of the last one, and I know you really like that flavor, so…” He shrugged, a content smile stretching his pale face. The spiky haired one allowed a pink hue to tone on his cheeks, “Ah, well thank you. But you really didn’t have to get so much. You got three bags,” he teased, poking the other’s cheek.
“The extra is because I saw a few limited-edition flavors of coffee that I thought you’d like. Like the pumpkin spice flavor, I know you like that for coffee! So I was luckily able to find some,” the snowy haired one explained, then bringing out the larger tub of pumpkin spice flavor that was in its own bag with one more tub that was otherwise smaller than the other two. “And then a birthday cake flavored one, since I’d like to see what that tastes like,” Komaeda then added, pointing to that smaller tub. Hajime inquired, “But I thought you didn’t particularly like sweet tastes. So why birthday cake?” The albino smiled a little, “That is true, I don’t like sweet tastes; but this is coffee, and it’s not bad at all to try something new.” Hajime only nodded for a response, as the other one would put the rest away, placing it all in cupboards and shelves.
Afterwards, Nagito changed into something else that was comfortable like Hinata’s; that being one of the brunette’s autumn sweaters. It was mid-summer, but the pale one was one to be used to wearing stuffy jackets in hot weather. He was naturally cold and produced being cold often. He beamed as he wore the sweater, certainly feeling comfortable in it. “Okay! Let’s go, it’s about ten miles away,” the cloudette said, grabbing onto the brunette’s hand once they were both ready to leave. “Okay, okay! Just slow down,” the slightly shorter boy would reply, following after Komaeda.
Hajime took his place in the driver’s seat of his car. He didn’t trust going ten miles with Komaeda Nagito driving, considering the white haired boy’s indefinite cycle of good and bad luck. He only trusted him with the very short drives to nearby stores. “What’s the shelter name?” The brunette asked, instantaneously getting a response from the one in the passenger seat, “Happi Animal Shelter.” Ah, Hajime had seen the shelter before. He nodded his head, getting the car started and exiting the lot, then beginning to drive.
‘So, why did you want bunnies in the first place?” Hinata questioned as they drove. Komaeda shrugged his shoulders, glaring outside the window. “Well, I guess I was just starting to think that while you’re at work, it’s just a bit lonely. I’ve been suggested an animal by my therapist, but you’re allergic to dogs and I don’t think cats are for me. So I looked through an animal shelter website, and there was a bunny that reminded me of you; it’s a brown fur and the description for it said that they were really loveable, so I just thought that was perfect,” he explained, tapping his finger against the window, “there were a couple of other cute ones, but I mainly want that one. Hopefully they’re still there,” he smiled, then looking back over to the brunette. Honestly, that had touched the said brunette’s heart. “Ah, that’s quite a good idea!” He also beamed, nodding his head once, “we’ll only start out with four bunnies though. Or maybe just three. Then we can see where it goes from there, okay?”
Quickly, he topped that off with, “But we cannot get twenty bunnies. We’re not carrying a bunny farm,” with a bright chuckle at the mere idea.
Komaeda rolled his eyes, a dorky smile being tugged at his cheeks, “I know, I know. I exaggerated a bit in the note. Maybe just ten,” he laughed, then resting his head in his hand. “Ten? C’mon, eight at most!” Hinata said, chuckles still being laced in his voice. The rest of the ride was like this, up until they had reached the animal shelter, which honestly wasn’t very far away.
They walked inside, instantly noticing cages and such alike that had a singular animal inside of each. Most were cats and dogs, the nearby dogs making Hajime’s eyes and general senses tense up. “Ugh, I should have thought about this before coming in…” The brunette complained to himself in mumbles. Komaeda rushed up to the counter, “Hi! I’m here for Koala, Casper, and Saki!” He hummed delightfully to the person working there, the brown haired boy beside him and scratching his nose in irritation. “Ah! Perfect, right this way,” the one working there responded, bringing the other two to the section in which bunnies lied. There weren’t as many of them as there were for cats and dogs, but there were quite a few. And they were all absolutely adorable. Three of the cages were opened, the bunnies being pulled out. Hajime held the one that was snowy white and incredibly fluffy.
‘This is probably the one that Komaeda mentioned that may remind me of him.’
He thought, as Nagito would be handed a brown one and a white one that was spotted with black. The brown one instantly became comfortable in his embrace, as the other one sniffed the white haired boy. “Ah!” Komaeda laughed, instantly falling in love with them. “Yes, we are certainly taking them home,” he mumbled, a bright grin decorating his pale face. The spiky haired one smiled as well, petting the one in his arms softly. The worker pointed at each of them as she recited their names. Pointing at the brown one first, “This one is Koala,” then the spotted one, “this is Saki,” and finally the white one, “and this is Casper! Koala and Casper have been here for around four weeks, and Saki has been here for around two months.”
She then added, “Oh! And Saki has had some babies pretty recently; only about a week ago. She’s still healing, so please be careful with her.” The two instantly agreed, as they were then taken to the front counter to sign for the adoptions. Casper happily cuddled Hajime, the entire time being held in his arms and incredibly comfortable. When all three had to be set down as the humans had to sign together and read through the information, Casper and Koala were very touchy and playful with one another. Reminiscent of Hinata and Komaeda, quite coincidental.
Afterwards, they were set in kennels, Koala and Casper being in one together and Saki preferring to be alone. Nagito practically flooded with pure bliss and happiness throughout the entire time, this being very noticeable to the other. “I love them so much already!” He brimmed, now happily tapping on his driver’s seat window. “We’ll go over to a pet store next for tags and such. I’ll also take a few days off so that we can get used to taking care of them, okay?” Hinata said, beginning to drive off. The cloudette nodded rapidly, his smile being permanent by now.
By only two weeks later, the three bunnies were very used to their home. Saki liked sitting under Komaeda and Hinata’s bed, usually sleeping there too. She was fairly lazy, but she liked being pet and cuddled with. The other two were giddy and playful, pouncing around the house when they felt *very* joyful. Hajime and Nagito loved all of them equally, but Casper specifically loved receiving pets from Hajime, and Koala absolutely adored love from the white haired one. Whenever Hinata came home from work, things usually played out the same; each time bringing him the same amount of joy.
He opened the door, then calling out, “I’m home!” He could hear the ruffling from tiny little feet rushing over to the front door excitedly, and steps from Komaeda approaching. In a sense he could practically feel the bright aura from the mere steps taken from all of them. The brunette stepped inside the house, closing the door behind him and pushing his shoes off of him, as the three bunnies ran after him. Casper cuddled his leg, his cheeks rubbing against him to show his greeting. The other two just looked up at him, not going as far as to cuddle him as Casper did but they were still happy nonetheless. The white haired male the brunette loved then came in, cheerfulness being painted to his face. “Hajime!” He squealed, dashing over and hugging him. “Hi, Nagito,” Hinata chuckled, dropping his keys onto the nearby counter so that he could comfortably wrap his arms around him; a comfort hug being embraced as the three bunnies they had adopted would surround them, pure happiness spilling from them too.
