Chapter Text

The sounds of chatter coming from the house

The smell of grass & flowers in the air

The sight of blue sky with scarce clouds

The taste of cool refreshing lemonade

And the feeling of a soft breeze dancing

All of his senses were at peace in this moment. Sapnap was spending his afternoon at his in-laws’ house. He was laying in the grass as his fiances curled into his sides, Karl on his left and Quackity on his right. Three of them wanted to have a peaceful moment together since their morning had been busy with finishing putting things into boxes from the house. Today and tomorrow were going to be their last days to hangout with Quackity before he moves. His parents wanted to expand out their service beyond their home island and Quackity’s instinct for exploration was growing & reached its limit on the island. Sapnap & Karl understood that and respected their wishes, the only reason they weren’t going to be coming along with was because of Sapnap’s family.

Sapnap’s fathers had adopted two new hellfire spawns from the caverns, which made them his little brothers. They had been spending the last year and half taking care of them and they had become a very important part of their lives, so much that Sapnap didn’t want to miss it. So if they were to leave with Quackity, they would miss a lot of his new younger brothers’ lives. So the three of them talked it over and decided to hold off on things until the boys were old enough to leave the island. If they couldn’t, Quackity promised to return as soon as possible just so they could be together again.

After this agreement, the three have spent the past month together, helping with the pack and making memories for when they are apart. Like as of now, their parents’ were talking on the porch while the three of them relaxed on the grass. They were taking a break while they waited for their transport to come. Though speaking of transport.

“THEY ARE HERE!” called Skeppy, as he slid open the gate door.

The three sat up confused before standing up attentively.

“So soon?” questioned Karl, in a whiny tone.

“You three have been laying there for half an hour” commented George, as he walked by the gate with a box.

“Don’t act like you weren’t just sleeping on the couch” scoffed Quackity, before walking up to the gate.

Sapnap & Karl followed after him to the front. Parked in front of the house was a horse drawn cart with familiar faces sitting in the empty space of it.

“Hi Puffy, Hi Dream, Hi Foolish” waved Karl.

“Hey guys” greeted Puffy, hopping off the cart to greet them.

Dream waved and jumped off the cart, holding onto a smaller boy who sat on his shoulders. Him and Sapnap shared a high five then a fist bump as they faced each other. Puffy walked over and ruffled both of Quackity & Karl’s hair. Awesamdude & Ponk appeared at the front door behind Skeppy & Badboyhalo, coming around to greet Foolish.

“Thank you for helping us out, guys” said Sam, as he set some boxes into the cart.

“It’s no problem, you guys have done alot for me and my crew so this is the best i can do to return the favor” replied Puffy, giving a small elbow bump.

“So how much do you think the cart can take?’ asked Skeppy, organizing the boxes.

“Enough, but we are gonna have to take multiple trips since the road up here is rocky with gravel” informed Dream, as letting the boy on his shoulder ruffled the mane of the horse in front of the cart.

“Better get moving then” informed another white haired man, popping his head from the front door. He wore a frog themed bucket hat and had a green denim jacket on.

“You say that but you haven’t done a thing” commented a brunet woman, grabbing him by the collar.

“Ack, Hannah” whined the man.

“Come on Boomer, you gotta help out too” stated George, as he sat on the edge of the cart.

Boomer rolled his eyes and walked back inside the house. There was a shared laugh at the siblings' antics. As everyone started heading into the house to grab things, Sapnap felt a tug on his pants. He looked down to see it was a small duo haired boy clinging on to his belt chain.

“Hey Ranboo, how are you doing? '' greeted Sapnap, bending down to the boy’s level.

He didn’t respond with words but he did wiggle his ears a little bit and gestured with his hands. He lowered his hands and pointed to Sapnap’s horns. He was confused for a moment before coming to realization.

“Oh, Tommy & Eryn are in the guest room upstairs. They are sleeping right now but you can go up there” explained the black haired male.

Ranboo nodded and retreated into the house. Sapnap followed after him and watched him climb the wooden staircase. Sapnap gave a small smile before heading into the main hall, where most of the boxes were. Hannah was helping Puffy with the coffee table out the living room while Sam and Foolish carried the sofa, while Boomer was laying on, and walked past him. Sapnap entered the kitchen, which was half sorted since Bad & Skeppy were bickering over if they should make dinner or get take out. Basically a pretty normal thing to see, so Sapnap let them be. He moved further down the hall until he heard laughing from up ahead. Turning a corner, he found Dream & George looking at a chaotic family portrait and wheezing.

“What the hell?” he stated, as he walked over to them.

“What are you two doing?” asked Sapnap, crossing his arms.

The two friends were still laughing their hearts out, not giving an explanation. Dream was wheezing so much, he fell backwards on the floor. This caused George to laugh even harder, so the cycle started back up with the laughing. Sapnap snickered a little bit before walking away, leaving his friends to their stupidity. He turned around and headed back up towards the stairway to the 2nd floor. In that hallway, most of the doors were open with smaller ones outside of them. He peeked into each room, recognizing them from the aesthetic of them.

Hannah’s room had pale green walls with a white window seat that had a view of the backyard’s garden. She was the one that had mostly tended to it, next to Ponk who planted the vegetables in it.

Boomer’s room had dark green walls but also had a white window seat to the garden. He didn’t do much when helping it but he did attract frogs that kept some of the flies off the plants and he brought fish to the pond to “spice things up” he said.

George’s room had baby blue walls and his window had a red curtain to block out the sun. He liked sleeping in and the sun shined directly into his room in the morning so he had to block it out somehow. Though it was fun to come into his room when he overslept and dramatically throw open his curtains.

Sam’s room was most likely the biggest bedroom in the house. It had light yellow walls and had a big window that could see the front of the house and the town below. Since Sam used to do most of the fixing around the island, folks would come up to the house all the time. Fortunately, Puffy took over that job which lifted some of the weight off of him.

Lastly, was Quackity’s room. It had dark blue walls and a big window seat that showed the cliff side to sea. The window also opened so it was easy for him to access the outside. This is where he found his fiance sitting currently. His back was turned as he was sorting through something. Sapnap knocked upon the door to get his attention. The black haired male perked and looked over his shoulder.

“Hey Q, whatcha doing here on your ‘lonesome” questioned Sapnap, as he walked over to his partner.

“Heh, nothing, just cleaning up some things” said Quackity, as he moved over to leave a spot open.

“Like what?” asked Sapnap, resting his chin on Quackity’s shoulder.

“This,” Quackity gestured, showing a box to him.

The box was small but was beautifully carved with imagery of the ocean waves, birds, and sunflowers. Inside of it were old pictures from the years they had spent together along with little knick-knacks that looked like Quackity had collected. Some of them seemed like little reminders of the isles, such as red rocks from the beach & crystal from the caverns, while others were gifts that Karl or Sapnap himself had given him, like the figures they had made at Antfrost’s pottery class & badly colored coloring book pages.

“You’ve kept these?” inquired Sapnap, as he picked up a page from the box.

“Well yeah, they are one of the few closest things to my heart that I can take with me” commented Quackity, covering his face as it slightly turned red.

“Oh, what are the other things that you can’t?” cooed Sapnap, leaning closer into his partner’s side.

The dark haired man turned his face away, but leaned back into Sapnap’s chest. He pulled his beanie over eyes as Sapnap wrapped his arms around him and pulled him towards him. He felt his partner mutter words into his chest but the flutter of his wings drowned it out.

“Can’t hear you, Q. You gotta speak louder” said Sapnap, running his hand through his partner’s wings.

“You fuckers,” huffed Quackity, lifting his head just a little.

“Love ya too, Q.” remarked Sapnap, placing a smooch atop of Quackity’s forehead.

Quackity just face planted back into Sapnap’s chest with a sigh. He muttered something else but Sapnap couldn’t understand but he just hummed in response. The two of them sat in the window seal, just enjoying each other's comfort. It reminded Sapnap of the first time he visited Q’s house but now it would be his last with him. The house itself would be made into a summer home for the Halo Estate, to keep the house for when they come to visit, but it would feel different. So might as well enjoy the moment will it last.

“You guys are disgusting,” commented someone, causing the couple to perk up.

In the doorway, stood Dream & George looking at them. The brunet man's nose was turned up in disgust while the white haired man was stifling a laugh. Quackity sighed and flipped them off.

“What the hell do you two want?” asked Sapnap, lifting a brow.

“Just wanted to tell you that we are going into town to take the first load to the ship” stated Dream, crossing his arms.

“Also to not do any freaky things while we are gone, there are children” added George.

“Shut the fuck up” retorted Quackity, as he sat up.

George waved nonchalantly before walking back into the hallway.

“We’ll see you guys when we get back” said Dream, before following after his companion.

Quackity groaned and started closing up the box from earlier.

“Eh, don’t worry about those bums. They’re just jealous ‘cause they are single” declared Sapnap, trying to pull his lover back into his lap.

“Yeah, but we should help get more things outside while they are gone,” replied Quackity, gently pushing away Sapnap.

“Aw man, but we have been doing work all day” groaned Sapnap, holding on to Quackity’s hand.

“True but If we finish really fast then we can spend the rest of the afternoon just lounging and having fun” expressed Quackity, as he tried pulling the dark brunet to his feet.

“Which means our break is now over and back to work,” he added.

“FINE! But you own me later” stated Sapnap, as he stood up.

“And what do I own you?” asked Quackit, lifting a brow.

“You’ll see,” commented Sapnap, with a sly grin.

Quackity got flustered as Sapnap walked away. He laughed to himself at the sight before ushering his partner along.

The rest of the day was smooth sailing from there. All the furniture and boxes had made it safely down to Puffy’s ship at the docks. The house had been cleaned from dust over the years so everyone headed into town to get take out to bring it back to the house. Bad came up with the idea of having a small party in the backyard as a big going away gift. Everyone agreed and collected some decorations while they were out. As they arrived back at the house, they started hanging up the decor and setting things out. Sam had set up a long table for the food, Ponk & Foolish hung up a sheet to project a film on it, Bad & Puffy were finishing putting up the fairy lights, George & Karl were entertaining the kids, and Hannah & Boomer were bickering about how to set up the blankets in the backyard. Sapnap stood at the porch watching, an affectionate look on his face. He then felt a slap on his shoulder, turning to see it was Dream.

“How are you holding up?” Dream asked.

“Pretty good, I’m just focusing on the good times in the present than the later struggle” shrugged Sanap, crossing his arms

“By the crimsons, you are really taking after Bad” teased Dream.

“I am not! I still swear” scoffed Sapnap, bumping his friend with his elbow.

“Just you wait. You’ll be saying ‘what the muffin’ unironically” laughed the white haired man.

“Fuck you” stated Sapnap, pulling Dream into a head lock.

The two started laughing at their nonsensical chatter. They calm themselves down to continue watching the chaos unfold. Karl was running around with both Tommy & Eryn in his arms as he was chased by George, who was carrying Ranboo on his shoulders. The two were playfully yelling at each other as they ran around the yard. Sapnap and Dream exchanged glances before leaping off the porch to join their shenanigans. Sapnap jogged up beside Karl and snagged Eryn into his arms.

“AH! Sapnap!” yelped the brunet man, his goggles sliding down.

“Just helping ya, dear” chirped Sapnap, pressing smooch to Karl’s cheek before swerving into the opposite direction.

Karl laughed and continued into his normal direction. George paused for a moment, looking side to side. He huffed before Dream appeared at his side. The white haired man whispered something into the dark brunet’s ear before giving a thumbs up. George nodded, set Ranboo on Dream’s shoulders, and sprinted towards Sapnap.

“Sapnap!!” called George, in a sing-song tone.

“George!!” replied Sapnap, placing Eryn on his shoulders.

“Woosh” mimicked Eryn, his tiny wings flapping in the wind.

“Yes, we must woosh” said Sapnap, his own larger wings popping.

He stepped on a rock and flew upwards. He looked back down at George on the ground.

“Awe now that’s cheating” scoffed George, resting his hands on his hips.

“That means you lost,” laughed Sapnap.

“Not yet” retorted George, as rolled up his sleeves.

He pulled a potion from his belt and chugged. He pushed down his glasses and jumped upward. He was floating and straight for Sapnap.

“You ass, you used a potion” gasped Sapnap, moving aside as George lunged at him

“Makes things fair” smirked George, as he started chasing Sapnap once again.

Sapnap laughed as he flew around. Eryn clinging on to his shirt, his own tiny wings unfolded in the wind. The three swooped around in a playfully chase in the air. On the ground, Sapnap could see Karl talking with Quackity & Dream and Tommy chased Ranboo around. From what he could see, his partner had given the small blonde his multicolor goggles that were too large for his head. It was pretty cute, even from the height Sapnap was at. An idea popped into his head since he was high in the air, to pull a little stunt.

“Hey Eryn, wanna pull a trick with me?” questioned Sapnap, holding up the boy.

Eryn nodded, flapping his wings excitedly. Sapnap returned the nod and turned around to face George, he was keeping good time with him.

“Hey Gogy!!” called Sapnap.

“What?” asked George, lifting a brow.

“Are you ready?” inquired Sapnap.

“For what?” stated George.

Sapnap bolted directly upwards and curled backwards.

“Catch” he retorted, before releasing Eryn into free fall.

The boy giggled in excitement but there was noticeable stress from George. The brunet man turned mid air to catch the boy, nearly giving himself whiplash. He successfully caught Eryn just as Sapnap started freefalling himself. He then stole Eryn back from George, blowing a raspberry as he passed by.

“Sapnap!” yelled George, as he darted after him.

The brunet demon laughed at his friend’s reaction.

“You got some time left on that potion for another maneuver” called Sapnap.

“A few seconds probably, why?” expressed George, as he started going closer to the ground.

Mischievous smirk reappears on Sapnap’s face before diving under his friend.

“Again?” asked Sapnap.

“Again!” cheered Eryn, waving his arms.

Sapnap nodded and tossed his brother into the air to George. The brunet caught the boy once again and coddled him as he descended to the ground. Sapnap followed suit, bumping a little into George when he landed.

“You are unpredictable” scoffed George, as he placed Eryn onto the ground.

“Ya, but you’ll miss that” stated Sapnap, bumping his friend.

“No I won't” retorted George, lying through his teeth.

“Sure” laughed Sapnap, pulling George into a headlock .

The brunet groaned but let Sapnap mess with him.

“Everything is ready!!” called Hannah, as she stood by the projector.

Sapnap exchanged glances with George before letting him go and trotting over to where everything was set up. George followed after him, pushing his goggles on his head. They thanked Hannah, who had passed them a plate of food, and headed over to the picnic spot. Quackity and Karl had curled up together as Dream tried to settle down the boys. Sapnap settled next to his avian partner,  which sandwiched him beside Karl. George sat beside Dream, which made him the children's next victim as they ended up jumping into his lap. Eryn stole his goggles since Tommy still had Karl’s. George sighed in annoyance but didn’t dismiss the excited kids. Sapnap gave his friends a small smirk before turning his attention to his partners. The two of them seemed to have swapped accessories, Karl wearing Quackity’s beanie and Quackity wearing Karl’s shawl. Sapnap smiled and wrapped his arm around the two of them, wrapping his cloak around them like a blanket.

“Sapnap, what are you doing?” asked Quackity, laughing as he was being squished.

“Getting comfy” remarked Sapnap, pressing a kiss on to his avian partner’s cheek.

“Ack, no affection” uttered Quackity, poorly attempting to pull away.

“Yes affection” stated Karl, placing his own kiss on the other side of Quackity’s face.

“I’m trapped” whined Quackity, between laughs.

“You don’t mind, right?” questioned Sapnap, bringing his face close.

“Eh, n-no” stuttered Quackity, becoming flustered.

“Ay! Stop you three, the movie is about to start” declared Dream, throwing a piece of popcorn that bounced off of Sapnap’s ear.

The three looked over to see their white haired friend sprawled on a blanket with George as all three of the little ones laid atop of them. They rolled their eyes and moved closer together as the opening scene started flashing on the screen. From how it was starting, it was a classical film that everyone enjoyed watching from time to time, called “My Neighbor Totoro”. Bad had a decent size collection of fantasy films stocked away but seemed very attached to this particular. Though with this in mind, Sapnap had grown to enjoy the film since it was a part of his childhood, so he hoped the kids would too. As the music started to play, everyone settled onto the palleted picnic spot, with their plates & partners, they enjoyed the company together since tonight was gonna be their last time spent together before tomorrow.
