Summary
Dabi rolls in with the autumn flush and chill.
He’ll lie to Dabi’s face and to anyone else who bothers to give voice and wonder how the two of them met. He remembers it, of course, and is confronted with the reality every time Dabi slinks inside like an alley cat that’s gotten into too much trouble. It’s when the leaves on the palms in his yard and all the bloomed flowers are dying, dropping back down to the Earth. His tea plants are inside, wrapped at the base with blankets just until the first few hard freezes come and go.
He takes Dabi home, and Dabi never seems to leave.
He’s never offered to save Dabi, and Dabi knows well enough not to ask.
