Chapter Text
The year Albus entered Hogwarts, in order to cheer up little Lily, as she missed her older siblings so much, her parents decided to give her an owl of her own. So that the girl could send as many letters as she wanted to her siblings.
So it was that two weeks after the start of classes at the magical castle, Harry Potter arrived home early one day and surprised his youngest daughter with a trip to Diagon Alley.
The little girl received the news with a beaming smile and happily accompanied her father. Before long they arrived at the alley and wandered around a bit until Harry led Lily to the pet store and gave her the task of choosing an owl. The girl took the important task very seriously, as it took her quite a while to choose one. In the end, she decided on a very pretty young brown owl, and before she had even left the store she had already given her a name, Rune.
Lily absolutely loved Rune from day one.
The owl was a bit absent-minded, but she always delivered letters or packages to the right person, although she did it in a very enthusiastic way. Perhaps a little more than usual, or so Lily thought, since from the first day she sent it to carry a letter to her siblings, the bird entered the Great Dining Hall almost ten minutes after the other owls had finished their deliveries, just as James was getting up to go to his first classes and, as he had told her (more like complained about it) that same day in a letter, Rune flapped, screeched and pecked at him until her brother understood that the owl wasn't planning to leave until he read the message she had brought him and did the same for Albus.
Her enthusiasm was amusing to Lily (not so much to her brothers), but it didn't fade over time as they had hoped at first, so Lily had to teach the owl to be more patient (less aggressive). But all was well, and for little Lily, Rune was perfect.
