Chapter 1: Birb.

Chapter Text

It isn’t every day that the mighty guardian of humanity breaks down in front of a fever.

Hua cracked open one eye as an incredibly heavy feeling settled in her body. Hard to move, hard to breath and extremely hard to get away from Mei’s embrace.

“M-Mei, let go...” Hua whimpered, head aching and eyes unfocused.

“One more minute, Hua... Today’s not even a work day.” Mei slurs out as she tightened her hug, making Hua groan.

“I’m serious Mei, l-let go. My body is aching ...”

Mei shot up from the bed and looked over Hua in concern. She turned around to see Kiana sleeping like a rock.

“Where does it hurt?” She asks gently, taking Hua’s hand in her own. Feeling the warmth spreading through it.

“Hua, you're burning up. Are you alright?” Mei placed her palm on her forehead which was glistening with sweat. Hair dampened and matted to her face.

“Doesn't feel good...” She muttered, placing a hand on the headboard to steady herself.

“Lay down and don’t move. I’ll bring some water and meds.” Mei slid off the bed and walked out of the door.

Hua swiped her forehead before plopping down on the bed. Body unbearably hot yet as cold as winter nights for the phoenix.

She turned to face Kiana who was watching her with half-lidded eyes.

‘Still half asleep.’ The phoenix mused to herself as she gripped the blanket, trying to fend off the cold.

“Come er’...” Kiana embraced her loosely, bumping their head as a familiar warmth started filling her being.

Hua clung to her like a koala, sighing as the room became slightly warmer.

“Mhm...” Kiana hummed softly, caressing her hair while Hua melted in embrace.

“Wouldn’t you get sick?” Hua asks, concern bleeding in her voice. She didn’t want to cause harm to her loved ones.

“For you...”

Kiana pecked her cheek, smiling affectionately.

“Worth it.”

“This is...” Hua made a face as she looked at the sheer amount of medicine packets Mei brought over.

“For your health.” Mei nodded her head resolutely.

“Damn.” Kiana snickered, watching them from under the covers.

“Mei, I truly appreciate it but I don’t think that these should be necessary.” Hua poked the packet cautiously.

“Don’t worry, it’s just for your fever and the others are in case you feel nauseous or have an upset stomach. Those are painkillers and some headache relievers.” Mei smiled kindly.

“I think you overwhelmed her, dork.” The Kaslana chuckled while Mei glared at her half-heartedly.

“I am just taking care of her...” The raven-head brooded, looking at Hua who grabbed some of the painkillers.

“I am sure you are.” Kiana smiled softly.

Hua gulped down some water before landing on the bed tiredly.

“I just want this to end...” She said blearily. Hazily remembering getting shifted around as to lay comfortably.

“Just like a baby bird. She’s so cute, Mei.” Kiana cooed, tapping Hua’s cheek with her fingers.

Mei shook her head exasperatedly, plopping herself on the bed.

“Kiana, turn the lights off.”

“No.”

“Kiana...”

“...Damn you.”
