Chapter Text
The heat was unbearable. Moon could barely see in front of them, alerts screaming and flashing violently as their entire system began to burn up. They stumbled through the dark and pungent smoke, ash clinging to their casing and sticking in their joints. They could hear Chica’s panicked and distorted screams coming from one direction, and the shriek of Monty’s bare endo claws as he dragged himself away from the hungry flames. Sun was terrifyingly silent, and Moon was scared beyond belief. They lost themself in their fear, letting the dozens and dozens of critical alerts overwhelm their visuals as they sank to the hot, hot floor. The crash of something falling into the raging blaze. The furious roar of the fire. The sizzle of burning plastic. The heavy thud of footsteps. And then silence as Moon’s overloaded systems shut down completely.

Sunny felt their systems gradually come back online as their light detectors picked up the narrow shafts of sunlight that filtered through the gaps in their window blinds. Their visual system restarted and they sat up groggily, their bed frame creaking underneath their weight. Sunny thought it sounded like trees groaning in the wind, even though it was made of metal. They liked that a lot, it was like bringing the forest indoors. Stretching dramatically like how they'd seen actors do on the old TV, Sunny felt their endo groan satisfyingly. They had gotten into a habit of stretching every morning, as Vanessa had said something about “stiff joints”, and Sunny was anxious about making sure he was always limber and flexible. They didn’t know how Freddy and the others bear it, just walking and standing all day! Sunny can’t help but cartwheel and tumble and ricochet off the walls. It makes sense, seeing as their battery runs off kinetic energy. They kicked their bedsheets off their bed, tucked their hands backwards palm down beside their faceplate, lifted their legs into the air, and vaulted gracefully to the foot of their bed, arms flung out theatrically as they landed. They hastily donned a tatty denim jumpsuit, worn from all their acrobatics and sometimes risky endeavours. They bounded downstairs, swinging around the corner and into the hallway, before flouncing towards the kitchen. Bacon popped and sizzled in a pan grasped by a large, robotic hand, and attached to said hand was the one and only Freddy Fazbear. Or, as everybody loves to call him- Freddy Dadbear, due to his overwhelming Dad Energy. Sun rocked back and forth on their feet in the doorway, watching the bulky robot fry bacon with the calm expertise of an experienced cook.
When Freddy had first taken up cooking (much to Ness’s relief), he was atrocious. Sun giggles just thinking about it, Freddy’s sombre, sheepish expression as he pulled a rhubarb pie the colour of charcoal from the oven, and the smoke that had filled Vanessa’s grandparents’ old house, setting off all the fire alarms. Everybody had evacuated and had a good laugh about the whole ordeal, and Freddy apologised about 50 times. But after lots of support from Chica (though her extremely positive reviews are dubiously reliable thanks to her habit of snacking on actual garbage) and lots of cooking tutorials downloaded directly into his system, Freddy became an incredible chef. His expertise? Pancakes. Sunny announced their presence with an artificial ahem, and Freddy perked up, turning to face the taller animatronic.
“Sunny!” Freddy beamed, ears wiggling in delight. “It is nice to see you up. Chica, Monty and Roxy are still in rest mode in their rooms, but Bonnie is out in the lounge area if you would like to say good morning!”
Sunny beamed back at Freddy (as much as they could with a permanently fixed grin) and twirled into the roomy kitchen, arms thrown up into the air extravagantly. “Friend Freddy!! I slept so well, I feel chock full of sunshine!” Sun declared, and Freddy chuckled heartily, dispensing the perfectly cooked bacon onto a paper towel to soak up any excess grease.
“...Is that not your default state?” Freddy joked, turning back to sun with a humorous glimmer in his cobalt eyes. “You are, after all, named Sun.”
Sunny chortled, amused at Freddy’s logic. “I suppose it is my default state, Freddy!” They paused for a moment, calibrating.
“Should I wake the others? Chica won’t want to miss out on your scrumptious pancakes!” Freddy gave a nod, and Sun practically leapt up the stairs to the second storey, where everybody’s bedrooms save for Vanessa’s and Gregory’s were located.
They pranced down the hallway, stopping first at the bedroom door labelled ‘ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK’ in threatening red letters, painted directly onto the door, which was marred with scratches and peeled paint. Sunny knocked pleasantly, a catchy tap-tap-taptap-tap, and hummed to themself as the owner of the lair stomped towards the door. Roxy hurled open the door, face drawn in a snarl. When she saw who had knocked, her face changed in a heartbeat, becoming an affectionate grin. “Hey, Sunny,” she said nonchalantly, her furiously wagging tail giving her away. Sun loved their adopted big sister and it was clear she loved them back, even if she denied it furiously.
“Freddy’s making fluffy golden pancakes downstairs! Round as my FACE!!” Sun exclaimed, spinning his face for added effect.
“Again??” Roxy put one hand on her hip and shook her head fondly. “That bear has got to expand his menu! Gregory’s gonna turn into a pancake if he keeps eating that shit.” Sunny slapped both hands to their fixed grin in mock horror. “Roxy!! Language!!!” they cried dramatically, and the wolf animatronic snickered and rolled her eyes. “Come on weirdo,” She said with the hint of a laugh behind her words. “Let’s go wake the others.”
