Spring Trinkets

Summary:

Usually, on 1 March, in Romania, Boys give girls spring trinkets. Now, you may be wondering 2 things. Why boys give girls? Well, girls can give boys spring trinkets too, as well as boys giving boys, or girls giving girls, of course.

And second, what exactly are these 'spring trinkets'? Well, in Romania, we call them 'Mărțișoare'. This term cannot be translated exactly, so I kind of invented an english term for it.

These 'mărțișoare' are little jewelery, often brooches, shaped like ladybugs, a horse's shoe, a four-leaf clover, or even flowers. Well, lately, these trinkets also come in the shapes of butterflies, roses, trees and whatnot.

But the most important part of these trinkets is a thin braid of white and red thread. These braids are formed as a little bow and attached to the brooch. Girls (or boys..) that receive one of these trinkets should wear these until 8 March, for it is said that it brings good luck. Then, on 8 March, the people who gave spring trinkets to someone usually buy them flowers, too.

In this fic, I'll try to showcase a sweet tradition, by writing a soft, angst-free, shizofrenia-free Timebomb fic, with a smol cameo of CaitVi.

Notes:

Holy shit i finally posted it, I FUCKING GOT MY TAGS DELETED 5 TIMES, ITS TIRING ALREADY

Basically, this is me, trying to make a fic inspired by romanian tradition, with my favorite ship, like a true patriot would do.

Work Text:

The long, harsh and cold winter came to and abrupt end, allowing spring to get ready to come and show herself again, as every year. It was an endless cycle, but it was always fascinating to see how the flowers bloom, the trees wake up to life and the cold outsides slowly starts warming up.

Ekko really did like spring. He enjoyed gazing at the sky's millions of stars. He would do that during winter as well, but it would be too cold, and sitting on the snow with 3 layers of clothing wasn't the most comfortable thing.

One thing that he liked about star gazing was that Jinx always was with him. Call it mutual interests, call it respect, she always seemed to be there, even if he didn't invite her, which was rare. She just knew when he was out stargazing.

When he'd invite Jinx, Ekko would wait by his car patiently for her. They'd go on their favourite stargazing spot together - a hill, where there were little flowers, sometimes even little birdies -

When Jinx wasn't invited (which was rare, very rare), Ekko would go on the hill just to find Jinx already waiting for him. This girl was such a mystery for him. How did she even know?

~26 February~

"Hey, look at that one right there, that looks like a TV remote!" Jinx exclaimed, her hand pointing at the sky above.

It was past midnight. Probably 00:39.

It was late for somebody normal out there. But for them? It was weird if you were asleep at this time.

They were out stargazing, this time yet, Ekko made sure to invite Jinx. It was just so much more lively out with her.

It all started as a quiet stargazing night, but somehow, Jinx transformed it into a 'Constellation finding contest'. Basically, whoever finds the most constellations wins. Until now, Ekko found an Ursa minor, an Cassiopeia and a Lyra. Jinx, on the other side found a TV remote, an angry face, a shampoo, a tea cup and a credit card. Of course Jinx's findings weren't real constellations, but as long as she had fun, it was okay. It was quite amusing to hear what random objects she found, too.

They were there since 21:30. Ekko waited for Jinx for a solid 26 minutes, in which he also won a Wild Rift match. After she came, they played a match of Teamfight tactics together, such a good way to start a date. After that, they could go together on that hill they both like. You could see the sky better from up there.

This time, Jinx brought spicy chips and grape soda. Oh well, yes, she knew Ekko had a thing with spicy stuff. He just couldn't find himself to like it. At all. And boy, she didn't care. After all, she was merely searching fun, enjoying getting reactions out of Ekko(every day, which was understandable, but also worrying) .

Ekko didn't touch any of those spicy snacks. Well, that until Jinx tricked him into doing so. But what could he do? Her 'sad puppy face' was too cute to refuse.

So he ate one, and God, did he regret it. Why were they so spicy? And why did Jinx pick just this kind? There were lots of types of flavours, but she just had to mess with him, didn't she?

Jinx was just laughing at him, while Ekko felt like he was on fire. Luckily though, after a whole can of grape soda, he felt much better. Jinx thought of everything. In a minute or two, our favourite duo was calmly looking at the stars above, Jinx's head on Ekko's muscular shoulder. That's just how their relationship works: ups and downs, turning downs in ups... Yeah.

It would've been a calmer night for Jinx if a specific couple didn't coincidentally choose the same spot for stargazing.

Yeah, you probably guessed. Caitlyn and Vi. Belle and the beast, if you would.

After the whole spicy incident, the two lovers' car could be observed, coming closer and closer to Ekko and Jinx. Why were they here?

Jinx and Vi really were surprised to see each other - Vi was even more surprised to find out Ekko and Jinx were a couple. Jinx didn't tell her anything!...Sure, she suspected they might have had some kind of thing going on, but still.

"You tracked me all along with your stupid hextech technology or whatever!" Jinx accused Vi.

"IT WAS A COINCIDENCE, I SWEAR!"

"Vi, Jinx, calm down please. If we are all here, we might as well bond and star gaze while doing so." Caitlyn calmly spoke, trying to stop the sisters from fighting, which proved to be useless, Jinx refusing to listen.

"Bond? BOND? With a sister snatcher like you?" Jinx retorted, showing just how not willing to bond with Caitlyn she was.

"Jinx, that'll be enough. We can go at my place and play Genshin...? Or League if you want, but no flaming." Ekko put his hand on Jinx's pale left shoulder as he spoke. She was getting ready to throw hands on Caitlyn, but luckily, Ekko was there. Oh, Vi too!

Jinx wanted to refuse Ekko, but she couldn't. She'd kill for the satisfaction of a pentakill...

"Fine, but I'll remember that, sis."

So they go home, end up eating popcorn, playing at least 6 matches of ARAM. Well, Vi did feel a little bad about it, but Jinx was her sister. Who'd you fight with if not your family, as they say?

~27 February~

Jinx woke up in Ekko's apartment, which wasn't big, but it certainly wasn't small neither. Just right for one or two people. It was decorated beautifully, reflecting Ekko's style. It was a cozy and welcoming home, and Jinx felt like home there. Sure, it was nothing like her room in Silco's house, so cold-looking and wild, just like her. Nonetheless, she really did feel like she belonged her. Hell, Ekko even hanged some of her gifts on the walls in his bedroom.

Why was she here...?

Oh, yea, the little stargazing conflict yesterday! Ekko and her got home and started playing... How many matches of League of legends?

Doesn't matter, but she remembers they did play much. And it was full of toxicity around there. All kinds of people flaming and angry kids with shitty mics, swearing in russian.

Oh well, she had fun flaming as well. Ekko tried to stop her from doing so, but she still did, considering she knows how to swear in portuguese. Ekko didn't even realise she was cursing.

"Good morning." Ekko's voice could be heard from across the bedroom.

Jinx takes her phone from the nightstand, eyes still adjusting to the light. To being awake, actually. At how bad her insomnia was, those 3 hours of sleep she got here were heaven.

"Good morning, it's 7:35, what am I doing here, I recall falling asleep on the couch." She groggily spoke. Ekko laughed a bit at her light hearted commentary and sat down on the bed, next to her.

"Somnophiles, are we, eh?" She jokingly commented, chuckling a bit.

"Oh, you fell asleep on the couch and let me tell ya, it looked uncomfortable. So I carried you to bedroom, like a good boyfriend would." He explained. Truly, an individual with pure intentions, and this is a fact.

"Oh, such a good boyfriend. Thanks."

It seems Ekko prepared breakfast for today. Pancakes, which were soft, sweet and light as air. Jinx loved when he did that.

They chit-chatted while slowly eating their breakfast.

"Oh, and by the way, you have messages." He commented, pouring himself another glass of soda.

"Messages? From who, and why do you know? Snooping around my phone, hm?" She asks, thinking at Silco. Just how many calls did she not answer?

"It's not my fault it opens automatically at every single damn touch. I didn't look at the sender, I just saw the notification." He explained, attempting to sound serious, but still giggling at the end.

"Well shit, it's Silco and Vi. He is asking me where I am."

"Poor old man probably sent the police after ya." Ekko's attempt at making jokes truly was hilarious for Jinx.

"Yeah, sure. ... Vi apologised for last night. Sweet of her, but I'm still waiting Caitlyn's message though." She said, before taking another bite of a pancake.

"You'd be 836 years old and still waiting. Good luck though." He said, gazing lovingly at her.

"Hell yea, Boomer Jinx. You'd better start buying anti-wrinkle cream."

They finished their meal and although Jinx called Silco afterwards and told him not to worry, she still sensed a *little* bit of worry in his voice, so she thought it would be good to go home soon. But before that, she'd want to research a specific spring tradition she found on the internet weeks ago. She paid no mind to it at first, but now? Spring was close and it came back in her mind.

"Ekkoooooooooo..." She called for him, as she was plopped on the bed while he was washing the dishes.

"Yea?" He called back.

"When are you doneeee...?"

"Actually, I finished just now. What's up?" He said, coming in the bedroom and seeing Jinx, laying diagonally on the bed, arms spread out.

"I wanted to research some kind of topic with ya. Can you bring your laptop?"

"Sure, wait here." He replied, walking to his desk, where his laptop always seemed to be.

He brings his laptop and plops himself on the bed, next to Jinx. She opens chrome and searches the topic she wanted to research with Ekko.

"1 March?" He asked, looking at what she was typing.

"Yes. The Great Wikipedia tells me it's a Romanian spring tradition." Jinx spoke, as she moved her hands around. Yes, she did that a lot when talking.

"I see people give other people that are dear to them some little gifts.... It doesn't have an english term though." Ekko continued, looking at the Wikipedia page.

"We'll call 'em spring trinkets. It's close enough. Also-"

And they continued reading that Wikipedia article. Jinx genuinely thought it was a nice thing to do, so did Ekko. Jinx didn't say anything about this to him, but she secretly planned to make one of those spring trinkets and give one to Ekko. ... Great minds think alike, as they say: Ekko planned the same thing, he'll make a little trinket for her as well.

~28 February~

Afternoon, and the sun shone just a bit brighter than yesterday. Jinx was at home, in her room, desperately searching ideas for spring trinkets. She is creative and full of lovely ideas, but now it's like all of that was taken away. She wanted to give Ekko a special gift for 1 march, but she didn't really know what would leave a lasting impression.

A butterfly would be nice. But it's plain and too simple to suit her tastes. It's just too plain.

She could craft something small. A work of art of some sorts. Maybe a little heart made out of metal. Now, it's rude to ask why she had a lot of scrap metal in her room, isn't it?

Or... Here comes a great idea: what if she made a little hourglass? She noticed Ekko using one as a symbol when they were out doing graffiti on random walls... Which was technically illegal, but adding a little color to a city never hurted anybody, right?

Yeah, she'll craft a metallic hourglass and attach that little braid of white and red thread to it. She was sure he'll like it.

And so, she begins sketching on a sheet of paper how it was gonna look. The hourglass trinket was gonna be small, but not smaller than 2,6 centimeters.... You know what? She decided she is going to make a fully functional hourglass. She needed glass, glitter, white and red threads and some sort of glue. Glass glue? Whatever, she'll figure it out.

Oh, she is sure Ekko will like it.

Ekko, on the other side was much more calm when it came to choosing what kind of trinket he was gonna gift Jinx. He decided he wants to gift something that suits her, something that matches her explosive personality.

Explosives..

What was more explosive than a grenade?

Sure, who in their right mind would give a mini-grenade as a gift that is supposed to be lovely?

But we talk about Jinx and Ekko here. Jinx wasn't your typical lovely, delicate girl. She was explosive, fun, childish, caring and a hundred more things that Ekko couldn't really name right now.

He decided to craft a mini grenade. Not explosive, of course. He wouldn't want it to blow up while Jinx wore that on her shirt, now did he?

What would he use to make it though? He thinks metal would be suitable for a mini grenade, but at the same time, he didn't want it to weight a ton. It should be a little trinket, after all.

He can make one using some kind of airdry clay, right? How hard could that be?

~

Jinx was almost done doing the spring trinket. It turned out beautifully. The glitter she used was very fine, so worrying about it getting stuck at the middle of the hourglass was pointless; it was a mix between two shades of green glitter she had, actually. Dark green, and a very vibrant lime. The mix turned out beautifully, but something was missing. Maybe a soft touch? Like some white glitter.

She put in a little bit of white glitter, because why not? Experimenting is key in life, after all.

She liked it so much more with the last pinch of glitter. It seemed like this version fitted Ekko better than the last.

She turned the hourglass upside down to see if it had any problems with the glitter inside. To her satisfaction, it didn't have any kind of problems. It worked just perfectly. Ekko would love it! She just needed to make that bow out of white and red thread and she was good to go.

Oh, she was so eager for tomorrow, how she imagined Ekko would smile at her and hug her.

~

Ekko had no problem crafting the grenade. Unsure of what a grenade looked like exactly, he used some photos on the internet, as reference. He made a sketch of how the trinket was supposed to look like, but instead of doing a simple grenade, he decided to change the style and shape a bit so it matched Jinx's style better.

Yes, he could use one of her grenades as a model, but he didn't have one and what was he gonna do? Text Jinx "hey, jinx, my love, send me a pic of ur grenade"? That's too suspicious.

He needed to improvise.

He sketched multiple designs, and he was gonna choose one, one he deemed the most well made. God, he was taking it all too seriously. But we understand, don't we? He cares, and it's good. Jinx really needs someons that cares in her life. She was lucky to have him, and he was lucky to have her.

He picked one of the 3 designs he carefully sketched.

He'll need to go to the nearest art supply shop and buy airdry clay to do the trinket.

So that's exactly what he did. At 18:30 - He left his apartment and visited the nearest art supply store, and bought a pack of airdry clay... Additionally, he planned a date for 1 March, just as he was on his way home. He had to go all the way to another shop and buy all the stuff needed for a comfy, homely date... Or a stargazing session, late night.

He was at the supermarket, debating with himself what soda and snacks he should buy, something that would match his taste, as well as Jinx's.

Guess who is also at that exact supermarket?

Cait and Vi.

Ekko met the two of them, realizing they probably were out buying office supplies.

"Hi..We keep bumping into each other, huh, little man?" Vi greeted friendly, followed by Caitlyn also greeting Ekko.

"Say... Where's your girl?" Vi also asks, grinning childishly.

"My girl, huh? In her home, I guess." Ekko answered simply, stopping analyzing the snacks that were neatly placed on the shelves.

"How come y'all aren't together?" Vi continued smiling, that smile only sending Ekko the message of 'I wish y'all have a beautiful relationship', which was nice of her, but still somewhat creepy. It was understandable though, she only found out about that some days ago, and she just wanted to be supportive. Nice, sweet Vi.

"Oh, you know, I'm planning a surprise for the first of March. You can't tell her this, though." He said, trusting Vi she wouldn't tell Jinx about it.

"First of March? What is happening on the first of March?" Caitlyn joins in the discussion.

"Well, Jinx wanted to search some information about some kind of foreign spring tradition, and we actually came to like the idea. The whole thing is about a person giving small gifts, spring trinkets, as she calls them, to another person dear to them. She also told me it's very important for the trinket to have a little red and white bow attached to it." Ekko explained carefully, as he picked the snacks he was gonna buy. Vi and Cait seemed very interested in it, as well.

"Seems very cute. How's is goin', little man?" Vi asked, considering to gift Caitlyn one of those spring trinkets as well.

"It's going well, very well, actually. Anyways, I'll have to gooo.. See y'all later." He said, taking his grocery bag and leaving, waving to the two ladies, them waving back at him, smiling encouragingly.

"Don't drown in some sewer on your way home!" She ironically said as she waved back at him. Something in Vi's expression could be translated as 'Go get yo woman, little man'.

"Yeah, I'll try, don't get yourself killed while tryin' to pet a cat."

He got home, bag full of stuff he bought in his left hand, his apartment keys in his other hand. He nearly dropped the bag of groceries. Thank god his reflexes were perfect.

The clock showed 18:45. Good, he still had time to make it. He was gonna finish it, even if he ended up staying awake until the sun rises.

So he ate a bowl of cereal and started making the grenade trinket.

~

Jinx felt uneasy. She felt like her gift wasn't... Complete. What could she do in order to make it more... Completish? Complete-er. Whatever.

She couldn't organise some super fancy schmancy restaurant date. It would be boring and she doesn't want to eat miniature food, placed on plates with some traces of some fancy sauce on. It was just so.. Too high class and fancy for her. And Ekko despised those restaurants for snobby pilties too. So a Piltie-date wasn't for them.

Maybe she'd try something more personal.

As she sat on the couch in her room and thought, a legendary idea hits her head.

A good-looking jar of paper stars. You know those little lucky stars? You need a strip of paper to make them.

Jinx is determined now. She'll make 100 of those stars and on each strip of paper used to make one, she'll write messages for Ekko. Messages she wants to tell him. Of course, maybe he'll never open the stars, but the fact that he'll have them is enough for Jinx.

And then realization struck her. She didn't have colored paper to do the stars out of.

"Silcooooo, I'm going shopping!" She calls after her adoptive dad, who was making dinner.

"It is 18:47, make sure to come soon for dinner. And also, it's cold outside, make sure to wear your scarf." He tells her. Always so careful, no detail escapes him. Ever. He wouldn't want his dear daughter catching a cold.

"Okay!" She answers back.

Minutes later, she is already outside, her neck covered with the scarf Silco gave her. It really was soft.

She entered the supermarket and ran straight at the art section of the stores. At this point, she liked admiring the shelves full of pens, pencils, kitty pencil cases and so much more that she knew where the section was, no map needed, no instructions, no arrows on walls to show her the way needed.

But guess who did she bump into on the way to the art section?

Yes, Caitlyn and Vi.

"Hello, Jinx." Caitlyn greets, followed by Vi also greeting her sister.

"Heya, Pow-Pow!"

"Hi..? A little late for shopping, ain't y'all?" She asked, a curious smirk plastering on her face.

"Probably. But if we are late, then so are you." Vi retorts playfully.

"Oh Sheesh. You got me." Jinx raises her arms, mimicking a caught-by-the-police criminal, both sisters starting to laugh.

"Yes, hands up, you are being arrested." Caitlyn deadpanned, her lack of expression only making Vi and Jinx laugh more, and louder.

"Can't catch me, sister snatcher!" Jinx said as she ran towards the art section, having Vi and Cait chase her, as they weren't in a supermarket, but in a complete playground, acting like kids, Caitlyn too, even if she was the most mature out of the three.

They completely cornered Jinx, she had no way out.

"You're under arrest for crimes such as aggravated jaywalking, mass murdering, setting private properties on fire-" Caitlyn gets a little bit too into her role, forgetting she's in a supermarket.

"Basically, you are under arrest for existing." Vi interrupts her girlfriend.

"Oh no... It would be a shame if I.. Threw crystal meth on your fancy little clothes, Kiramman..." Jinx said in a tone so sweet and innocent she could trick you into pitying her.

"CRYSTAL METH?" Vi asked, Caitlyn couldn't really figure out if she seriously wanted some or just joked.

"Yeaa... The finest." Jinx continues the charade.

"My sister is now a drug dealer." Vi giggles softly.

"Yes. I deal colored paper." Jinx goes to the shelf with sheets of colored paper and grabs some. She was unpredictable, and not even Caitlyn could figure out what she wanted to do with those. Either throw them on Vi, or leave peacefully.

"Y'know what? Can you pay these? I forgot my wallet, Vi." Puppy eyes and Jinx wasn't a good combination. It had the potential to overturn the government. So how could Vi refuse? How could anyone refuse? Besides, it was just some paper.

"... Fine. How many do you need?" Vi asked her sister.

"I wanna buy every color. Like.. A rainbow. It should be enough for 100 stars. Or, you know what, 140 paper stars. And if one sheet equals 21 strips of paper for stars, then... I'll need 7 sheets of paper, and It would be enough for me to keep the remaining 7 stars." She does the math real quick, mumbling.

"Wait. Paper stars?" Caitlyn asked, amusing Jinx with her funny piltie accent.

"Yaaa. They are for Ekko, tomorrow is the first day of spring, after all!" Jinx exclaimed.

Okay, Vi and Caitlyn were figuring out what happened here. They were planning surprises for each other.

"That's sweet of you." Vi smiles wholesomely, and Caitlyn nods too.

"Thanks, sis. I should get doing, Silco wants me back home before he finishes cooking dinner."

Vi nods and searches her wallet in her red, neat looking purse, which had a worn out bandage on the handle. She takes 5 dollars and gives them to her dear sister, as she assumes the sheets of paper aren't any more expensive than that.

Jinx thanks her cutely and waves her goodbyes to the two girls, then runs to the checkout to pay.

Jinx leaves the supermarket and Vi and Caitlyn begin talking.

"Oh, I know what's going on with these two." Vi said, turning to Caitlyn.

"They are both planning to surprise each other. How sweet of them." Caitlyn continues.

Vi smiles to Caitlyn, then plants a small kiss on her lover's cheek. In return, Caitlyn wraps her arm around Vi's torso, hugging her. Finally, they leave the supermarket after they pay as well.

Jinx was home when the clocks struck 18:55. She'd be at home sooner if she would stop naming and trying to communicate with every little kitten on the streets.

Silco takes off her coat and asks her how was outside, in a calm, fatherly and comforting tone. She tells him the weather was great and that she ran into Cait and Vi, which surprises him, in a good way.

And Silco and Jinx eat dinner in peace, of course, Jinx interrupts the silence by chit chatting. Silco doesn't mind it at all. Actually, he likes it that way. He always thought that if a person talks like this around you, then they must feel comfortable enough to do so.

Silco appreciated the fact Jinx felt like so around him. That was the biggest pride a father could have in his point of view.

After that, Jinx takes a glass of soda in her room and starts working at those stars, of course, listening to music. Her headphones hated her.... The music was always so damn loud.

She had to measure the 1 centimeter thick strips, cut them, fold them and put each one in a good looking transparent recipient. Like a jar, she thinks. Or... She could put them in the same gift box she was gonna place the spring trinket in.

Let's just say she never got the sleep she needed and wanted. But the gift box got its stars, no less, no more than intended. 140 perfect little paper stars, each having lovely messages inside, thought-up and wrote just by Jinx.

She is sure he'll like it. Now, it's time to sleep. For 3 hours. But it's okay, she could sleep another time.

~1 March~

Oh well, Ekko's little plan was in motion. Few minutes ago, he called Jinx and invited her to a the classical, their favourite, stargazing date, and after that, they'd pull an all-nighter, playing games of course.

And now, he was getting ready to go. His outfit consists of a pair of grey-ish lime cargo pants, white sneakers, a comfy, white t-shirt that Jinx gifted him some months ago. She just had to leave her touch on it - lots and lots of hourglass doodles and graffiti, too - he also had a jacket on. Something light, perfect for spring and a black backpack in which he had the little spring trinket and the other stuff he bought yesterday.

He was outside, waiting for Jinx, just in front of his home's door.

This time, he didn't have to wait as much as usually - he only had to wait 7 minutes for her, which was near luxury - Thank God he didn't start a match of Wild Rift.

So anyway, Jinx was here, and goddamn, she looks perfect. Her hair is braided, but instead of the two braids, she only had one now. Her outfit was perfect as well, as every other time. She wore a light blue top that Ekko gifted her, a black, leather harness, decorating the dark, slightly baggy jeans she wore. She also had a dark blue knee-length cardigan, a pair of black, high platform sneakers and a little purse. Do not judge though, that purse was heavier than you might think.

"Hey there, boy savior." She greets, her expression smug but lovely.

"Hello to you too, blue head." He continues the nickname game that she started.

"Hourglass dude."

"Bitchy braids."

"Master Baiter." The title Ekko kept getting after each round of Windtrace they played, late at night, on Genshin. She just had to tease him.... Plus the fact that he placed waaay too many baits around. It was kinda annoying for Jinx, who was constantly the hunter of the round.

"Now that's just rude." He sounded genuinely offensed.

"Virgin slut." Until he didn't sound so offensed anymore.

"So what, you're a gigachad now?" She smirks sarcastically, crossing her arms.

"Now? I've always been." He retorted, taking her hand and planting a short kiss on it, like a true gentlechad would.

"Your romantism is weird. But I like it. Now, if thee shall allow this, one shall enter thy car. " Jinx mimicked Caitlyn's bri'ish accent. It seems she is getting better and better at it. Someone could even mistake her for a true british woman.

"After you, my lady." Ekko did continue the politeness game, clearly amused by her. He opens the car's door and Jinx *elegantly* enters.

Shortly after, the car was already moving. It was pretty late too. 22:35.

"Ekko, my sweet little treasured timepiece, you know how much I love you, right? I wake up for you every morning and I wish I could be with you every day-"

"Yes, you can take the aux cord." He deadpanned, also interrupting Jinx. His emotionless face was only adding to the comedic effect of Jinx's maneuver.

"You always know what I want." She mumbles, then sighs smiling.

It was quiet and relaxing. Until the silence and the sound of tires humming got jinxed.

Yes, you guessed it. Jinx's spotify playlist. The longest one she had, even. 8 hours and 35 minutes of Jinx's interesting (to say the least) taste in music.

But of course the first one was a mashup as chaotic as her personality. Reese's puffs x CPR x Misery. A song that nearly represented her.

Ekko was really struggling to drive; and that wasn't something he would usually struggle with. He only did that when he was tired or when Jinx was groovy, dancing on her seat.

"SO LET ME BEEE~ I'LL SET YOU FREE" Jinx sang loudly and chaotically, leaning on Ekko, poor boy was struggling so much to remain focused on the road.

"REESE'S PUFFS, REESE'S PUFFS, BEAT 'EM UP, BEAT 'EM, BEAT 'EM UP, BEAT 'EM UP" Jinx continued, switching between the lyrics.

"Jinx, it's 'eat 'em up', not 'beat 'em up'. Do you only think at violence?" He pinches the bridge of his nose with his left hand.

"Naaah, Vi stands for Violence." She retorts, closing her eyes, smirking and leaning on her seat.

"And, well, Jinx? Stands for Jinx. Duuh."

Oh god no, she quoted her League of Legends main's voicelines. This might seem comfusing, so let me explain. Not too long ago they decided to listen to some of their favourite champs' voicelines. Ekko had the horrible idea to bet: whoever quotes one of their main's voicelines has the right to take 30$ from the other.

... Way to jinx a date.

Ekko is deep in his own thoughts and nearly causes a car accident. Thank god his reflexes are perfect.

"Well fuck you too." He added, nonchalantly, which made Jinx giggle. A giggle that turned into a cackle. Oh well, she clearly enjoys winning bets, that's for sure. She's the happy winner of 30$, after all.

~

The gentle breeze hit their faces. It blew Jinx's hair strand that was formerly covering part of her face, as well as her long, luscious single braid. It ruffled Ekko's dreadlocks, making him feel like every worry in the world disintegrated just now: the landscape, the scenery, just them. The two of them. She felt like dancing, and so did he.

The sky is dark, stars showing themselves for the two of them to see. As they take seats on the grass, they hold hands, without even realizing it.

Jinx lets her head rest on Ekko's shoulder. And he actually falls for her trick. That was a trick she often does to make him lower his guard. She slams him onto the grass, and he doesn't even have time to yelp about it as she tumbles over him and rolls to his side.

"I have a gift for you, boy savior." Jinx stated, turning her face to him. Her voice and face is laced with that eagerness a child has when they can't wait to show their parents some drawing they did, or a good grade they got.

Ekko stays silent, letting his expression speak for him. He was curious.

Jinx takes her grey-ish blue purse and sinks her hand in it, searching for something, it seems.

She was getting anxious. What if she forgot the gift home?

Oh, no, there it is, she found it. The little green gift box. She gave it to Ekko, her mouth curving into an eager smile.

"Open it!" She whispers excitedly in his ear, action that made Ekko flinch a bit, but he did open the gift. The curiosity was killing him. Knowing Jinx, it would be something worth treasuring forever.

He undid the little bow on the top of the little gift box and took the top of it off.

Inside was the spring trinket Jinx worked tirelessly at just yesterday: the functional little glitter-y hourglass, sinked in a sea of colorful little paper stars. It looks like she put a hell lot of effort in this one.

'woah' he muttered, imagining Jinx working at this little gift, late night, imagining how loud the music she was listening to was, imagining her sketching it and so on. He liked it.

"Do you like it, boy savior?" She interrupts his thought chain mercilessly.

"I saw you kinda blacking out and didn't know if you like it or nah." She continued, this time smirking.

"No, I don't like it." He deadpanned, turning his face to her.

Jinx was confused, she was so sure he would like the gift, she was so sure she heard him mutter 'woah'...was it just her schizophrenia acting up again? She looked as if someone stabbed her, not with a dagger, but with her own feelings... Somewhat.

Ekko sees his trick works, he gets a reaction out of Jinx. Just this time, he wanted to be the one who tricks the other one just for the sake of fun reactions. Not wanting to make her actually feel any worse, he adds:

"Last time i checked, you can't like and love something at the same time."

His emotionless expression turns into a smile, such a smile that can instantly make Jinx lighten up as well; He takes her into a hug and she accepts it wholeheartedly.

"Let tricking to me the next time." She murmured against his shoulder, making him giggle at her proposal.

"I have a gift for you too, Jinx." He breaks the hug and takes off his backpack, opens it and begins searching.

His fingers touch the gift box he neatly wrapped with colorful wrapping paper. He spent a whole 15 minutes in that shop yesterday, thinking what pattern would Jinx prefer...?

He takes the gift out and hands it to her, her eyes curiously following his hands and the little gift.

She wastes no fraction of second and takes the wrapping paper off. She quite liked the pattern and the colors of it - a softer shade of pink, vibrant blue and some traces of a darker purple.

She stops, suddenly, face turning to Ekko, smug grin showing.

"Should I prepare myself to be amazed?"

God, this girl was unpredictable. One second ago, she looked just so curious and impatient, and now? Well, now, she wasn't hurrying at all.

"Yeah. Ya better would." He is taken by surprise by Jinx's sudden comment, but he quickly regains his confidence. That confidence that comes from nowhere, yet he still has it.

"If you say so.."

And she opens the gift.

Inside is the little grenade trinket he carefully sculpted, painted and polished.

How could anyone make something so perfect, only to give it to someone so... Imperfect as she?

She takes it into her hand and looks at it in awe. It was just so perfectly made. It was perfect because it was made by him, and it shows. Just Ekko could make something so well made, something that represented Jinx's personality so good.

Her eyes began tearing up, and she didn't even try to hide it at this point. She felt safe with Ekko, she felt no need to hide anything when she was with him.

Ekko mumbles a little 'c'mere' and pulls Jinx into a warm hug.

Ekko gave the best hugs. He had a great teacher, and I doubt you don't know who she is.

"Thank you, boy savior." She mumbles, still hugging her only 'boy savior', that truly.. Saved her. From what did he save her though, may you ask? Too many to be said. But hey, what mattered it that he was there for her.

"Happy first of march, little firelight." He whispers softly, making her feel like she could just dance, no worries, no bad things, no problems.

"That's a nice pet-name." She mumbles back, the hug still not broke up.

He chuckles and kisses her on top of her head. She could stay like that, cozy in Ekko's hug for centuries.

~bonus~

"Oh well, you weren't wrong when you suspected Jinx had a childhood crush on Ekko, Vi."

"Yea, Cupcake. I know. These two are so in love."

"Good for them."

Caitlyn and Vi chuckled, turning their faces to each other after looking at the other two.

They were somewhere close to the hill - Vi insisted coming there, to see the whole date go down, of course. And how could Caitlyn refuse?

~bonus 2~

Late night, 2 am or so, Jinx was carrying everyone, shooting super mega death rockets at everyone as often as she could, flaming every angry 11 year old that was shaming her for picking her main, or every bastard shaming Ekko.
