Work Text:
You were on a delivery for the Pokemon Center. Since everyone was so busy, and you were the eldest of the Pokemon School's students, you had offered to go it alone. Approaching a malasada food truck, you saw a blue haired man in an obvious work uniform. Admittedly enough, he was rather handsome at first glance.
"T-t-twerp?!" He first exclaimed, taking you off-guard.
"Excuse me, but I have your pokemon medication," you said, giving a genuine smile. Up close, the man looked familiar, and even more handsome than far away. You could not help but let a tinge of blush rise in your face as your fingers lightly brushed, handing him the bag full of medication.
"Uhh, t'werent for you, I'd be in trouble," he said with a sheepish smile. "T'weren't for you, my pokemon's skin would be dry as the hottest desert."
You chuckled softly, resting your elbows on the counter on the stand, placing your head upon your hands. "It sounds like you take great care of your pokemon," you replied, smiling a little more as you stared up at the man.
The man seemed to be getting overly uncomfortable, and just as you were about to walk away, you watched as his marinie jumped out from hiding, clasping around his head like a clamp. The sight was a little ridiculous to behold, and he flailed a little bit as his skin began turning purple. Your arm reached out slightly, wondering whether or not to ask the man if he needed help.
As his marinie unclasped from his head, he began swaying back and forth, almost looking like a marinie himself with the tint of his skin mixed with the way his hair adorned his face. "A-are you alright?" You asked, staring cautiously at him. At that moment, you realized who was standing in front of you, and yet you still could not shake the fact that you found him handsome. He was even admirable for taking care of his pokemon with individualized needs.
"There's countless ways to show affection, you know," he said in a bit of a daze as he swayed back and forth, causing you to giggle a bit.
Your smile returned to your face, brighter than the last. Taking out a shred of paper from your pocket, you grabbed a near pen and scribbled down a number upon it. "It's a little embarrassing, but if you'd like, I'd be interested in going out for coffee sometime," you said, sliding it over to him and blushing horribly as you did. He looked shocked for a second as his purpled skin turned ivory once more. "I know who you are, and I don't care. If you aren't into it, I prefer you don't tell your cohorts."
With that, you rushed off quickly, wondering whether or not what you did would come back and bite you. Though the two of you were always on different sides, you had always had a sort of admiration for the man. It was not like you were condoning stealing pokemon by being interested in him, but you kept your mouth shut when you came back to the pokemon center.
After a few more hours of working at the pokemon center, you worried that the Team Rocket member would have simply laughed about you asking him out. He had probably told his cohorts and they were all having a real good laugh about a twerp finding him attractive enough to do so, and the thought of that made your stomach turn. In a sense, you began to feel foolish for even thinking it would possibly work. That was, of course, until you felt your phone vibrate in your pocket.
Unknown Number:
It's me. Come to the café by the pokemon center and look for the white baseball cap. 8pm.
You smiled inwardly, your heart racing as you read through the message before you shoved your phone back in your pocket. Though it was merely 5pm, you felt the day begin to go much faster in your good mood. Of course, you were not completely sure it was in fact a date or some sort of ruse, the fact that he had even answered in the first place had you buzzing. In your head, you could imagine those emerald eyes staring back at you, and that in itself caused your heart to soar.
Making your way into the café, you were adorned significantly differently than your every day, as to not raise suspicion if anyone had seen you. Though you wore no hat to cover your face, your y/h/c hair was done up beautifully, stretching downward on one side of your head. The y/f/c dress you wore was not overly fancy, yet form fitting, stretching down almost to your knees.
Your e/c eyes scanned the room, before you felt a light touch to your arm, causing you to blush. Looking upward, you could see those emerald eyes shimmering softly down at you. A soft smile graced his face, and the two of you ordered your coffees. Since, you obviously knew Team Rocket was not nailing down the big bucks, you had covered the cost of both coffees, taking him aback.
As the two of you sat in your corner booth, he was the first one to break the silence. "This isn't some sort of trick, is it?" He asked suspiciously, staring you directly in your eyes. It caused you to chuckle a bit, before taking another sip of your coffee.
"No, no," you said with a smile. "Actually, I'd like to get to know you - I'm not looking for secret plans or any of that jazz. I'd prefer to sway away from any sort of work chat, if that would be fine with you."
As you said it, your honesty actually brought a smile to his face. He replied, a bit of blush staining his own cheeks, "I was worried that this was some sort of ruse, honestly." His response was followed by laughter, and a little sheepish looking away before he glanced back in your direction.
"I honestly was worried the same," you admitted sheepishly. "I know we've been on opposite sides since Kanto, but, you know...I've always thought you were handsome, and I don't see you being the horrible guy everyone paints you out to be." Your cheeks were like the fires of the great mountain akala as you spoke, and you looked away embarrassed, until you felt a hand upon your cheek, causing you to glance back at him.
"If it's not weird to say, I've always thought you were beautiful, Y/N," he said gently, a little nervous waver in his soft voice. This caused you to blush even more, staring into those handsome emeralds.
"T-thank you," you said softly, stuttering a little as you spoke. The warmth did not leave your cheek as his hand did, and the two of you began getting to know each other slowly. Each question or remark was gentle and timid, not wanting to squash any tough spots in either's lives as the two of you spoke.
Two hours had gone by, and the two of you did not want the night to end. Closing time was upon you, and that few minute warning before so caused a meek cloud to rain upon both of your hearts. As the idea popped into your head, you immediately spoke it. "Would you maybe like to go for a walk, and continue our conversation?" You said meekly, realizing that it may have sounded needy after you had already said it, but feelings were slowly building up for you in your conversation, getting to know him so deeply in such a little amount of time.
To your surprise, his emerald eyes lit up as you said it, a smile stretching once again against his features. "I would love to," he said, standing to his feet before offering a hand to you. The two of you walked out of the café hand in hand, blush upon one another's cheeks as you continued getting to know one another.
The two of you walked a direction you had never walked before, since you both knew if anyone had seen the two of you, it could have been hazardous. It seemed as if the two of you talked about just about everything, even down to how the two of you became partners with each pokemon that the two of you mained in each region. Marinie was one that he spoke most fondly of, seeing as it was the most recent pokemon he had acquired. You spoke fondly of your lapras, which you had acquired a few regions prior and had never swapped out of your party.
Funny things that had happened to one another caused each other to break out into chuckles or even fits of laughter as the two of you spoke. It was wonderful, fingers intertwined and the deepest of things to the lightest things being touched upon. You were both fully enthralled in one another, and the night was amazing.
It was nearly 12am when the two of you had realized it was more than late, and you knew if he had been gone for too long, his partners may question where he had gone. When the two of you were about to separate and depart, he was the one to make the first move.
You were about to turn and walk away, saying a goodbye, when you felt a hand twirl you right around. Immediately, before you could come to your senses, you felt a pair of strong, yet gentle lips pressed against your own. It took you a moment to kiss back, and as you did, you wrapped your arms around his neck. In turn, you felt arms wrap around your waist, pulling you in close as the two of you kissed. The kiss started off a little awkward and unknown, turning into something wonderful as the two of you got used to one another's lips.
Separating for air, you sheepishly admitted, "That was my first kiss," with a soft chuckle and brilliant blush splayed across your cheeks.
He placed a hand behind his head, chuckling as he said, "Mine, too."
In that moment, you're the one that drew him back into the kiss, and it felt like each moment that the two of you were in it did not last long enough. Your heart fluttered as the two of you brushed lips tenderly, and as your lung capacity neared another need for a breath, it was not nearly long enough. "I want to see you again," you said softly after the two of you broke apart once again, causing him to almost grin with excitement.
"So do I," he replied excitedly. "I'll text you the next time I'll be able to venture out."
"I'll be waiting," you chuckled with a smile, and the two of you went your separate ways.
It had been about 5 months since the two of you had started seeing one another, and there was no denying that you were falling in love with a member of Team Rocket. Though you had been a little suspicious from time to time, no one had caught on that you were seeing him, to your relief. Once or twice, the two of you had planned to falsely kidnap you, convincing Jesse and Meowth that it was to lure the other supposed twerps to capture Pikachu and other rare pokemon. In actuality, the two of you had made out while he was supposed to be watching you, until they arrived to save the day.
Pokemon School was just about finishing up, and you did not want to keep fighting on the opposite side of your lover for much longer. The two of you met on Akala Island's beachfront both in disguise, and were late night swimming with your lapras and his marinie tonight. After meeting marinie a few times yourself, the pokemon had warmed up to you, no longer attacking James in a jealous rage whenever it was out around you. Your lapras had come to like James as well, after some gentle coaxing after explaining to lapras that he indeed was not actually bad.
After some splashing around and playing, James had been the first to bring up the subject. "I'm serious about you, Y/N," he started, his voice dripping with nerves as he spoke. "And I want to actually be with you, not just whenever I can sneak away from my team."
You sighed softly, nodding. "I don't like keeping it a secret either," you said morosely. "I love you, James, and I can see this going one of two ways. We could take you off of Team Rocket's grid, and you know, live normal lives, or, I'm serious enough that I would sacrifice my beliefs and join you."
He brought a hand up to your face gently cupping your chin, causing you to look up into his eyes. "I'm not a bad guy, and I would be if I tried to get you to join Team Rocket," he said softly. "I want to start a life with you."
Though the two of you were still in the water, you wrapped your arms around his neck and gently brought him closer to you. Pressing your lips against his own, the two of you began kissing passionately. He held your waist close to him, so close that you could feel the warmth of his bare chest against you. Your kisses never seemed to last long enough, but as you separated, catching your breath, you said, "I would love to start a life with you."
"I love you, Y/N," he mused off softly, caressing your cheek.
Staring up into emerald eyes, you could still feel your heart racing as if it were the first time. You whispered, "I love you as well, James."
