Yashiro, what’s this?

Summary:

Nene Yashiro loved everything about her Amane, but sometimes his lack of knowledge about things was both cute and concerning.

Or: Amane Yugi has too much to learn about modern times, who is a better teacher than Yashiro?

Work Text:

Nene Yashiro still barely understood how she could be so, so, blessed. It felt like yesterday when Hanako, now back to Yugi Amane, was given a second chance at life.

But it was times like this where she was reminded that living with Amane, the love of her life, was similar to babysitting.

‘Yashiro, what’s this?’ or ‘Yashiro, teach me about this!’ would very often be heard from him. She had to remind herself that he was born in 1956, of course he wouldn’t know a lot. But in her defense, he was Honorary No. 7 of a Kamome Academy! Wouldn’t he pick up on things from the countless amounts of students he saw?

“What’s this, Yashiro?” She heard him say from the living room, can she not cook them both dinner in peace without becoming the modern dictionary? She gently put down the bowl of rice she was washing, and walked into the living room.

“Baby, that’s a sheet mask.” Nene giggled, she owned a bunch of those. Did he never notice them in the bathroom? “I have a lot of those, they’re for skin care!” She beamed, she always stayed on top with her skin care. Nene would be lying if she said she wasn’t proud of that.

“Can I try one? Please?” Amane begged from the couch, quickly sitting up and facing Nene. She nodded, quickly running into the bathroom. She grabbed two rice sheet masks she owned, and returned with them.

“Okay! You put it on and leave it alone for twenty minutes! And don’t smile or eat with it on because it moves it around!!” She said while walking to the couch, standing with her hands on her hips with the sheet masks. He gave a sly grin that she knew too well, Nene knew he totally took that as a challenge.

“Whatever you say, princess!” He practically sang, sounding way too cheery for someone who was just told to not smile for twenty minutes. He sat still as she opened the packaging for his, staring at the folded up mask and she struggled to separate the edges.

“Close your eyes.” Nene spoke, focused on not messing up the mask that stuck to itself way too easy. He silently agreed, shutting them gently. He had to hold back a shiver as she put the mask on, that was a lot colder than he expected! And he was used to the cold after being a ghost and all!

“Open your eyes!” Nene said, taking out her phone and changing it to the camera app so he can see how ridiculous he looks with the face mask on. She opened her own mask and put on hers a lot faster than his, she didn’t really care if hers was messed up as she already had put on her face creams. He took in how he looked and was still getting used to seeing himself through cameras, he was so used to being invisible. He smiled at Nene, the one who had to drag him back to the Near Shore kicking and screaming, and the only one who he’d trusted with everything. It was funny, really, how a stupid sheet mask and her phone camera can make him so emotional. He thought he’d never get to experience things like this, but it seems fate had other options.

“Amane! I know sheet masks make people look funny but can you not stare?” Nene whined, turning her head to the TV that was now playing Liar Game. He laughed at his so easily flustered girlfriend, honestly, he’d kiss her if he didn’t know how gross the mask probably tasted.

“But you’re so pretty!” He gushed, hugging her tight and laughing as she complained about the mask going to get in her hair.

It would take a bit more getting used to, but Amane was ready to experience everything with her.
