Work Text:
Sunoo had just finished getting ready for school and was now waiting for his Jay-hyung to finish so they could walk to school together. He was in the kitchen eating a bowl of his favorite cereal while scrolling through twitter on his phone.
That was when he realized that it was SunKi Day today. He saw the amount of tweets dedicated to ‘SunKi’ and how #SunKiDay was trending on twitter. He scrolled and scrolled, watching the cute edits and pictures of them both.
He chuckled as he realized that was why his dongsaeng was so clingy to him last night, even got in bed with him. He decided to write him a note for him to read when he woke up.
‘Goodmorning, Ni-ki. I hope you are well-rested ^-^ Unfortunately, I’m still in class as you are reading this but I’ll be home soon! I’ll pick you up after class. Dress comfortably. Bye bye! ><’
He smiled as he finished writing the note and silently went into their bedroom to not wake the other members. He walked towards Ni-ki and slowly placed the sticky note on his phone so that he’d be sure to see it when he woke up.
He had mentally planned out the entire day so that he and Ni-ki would have a good time. It was usually the younger who would plan out how they would spend the day when it was SunKi day so Sunoo thought that it was his turn to do something special for him.
He silently walked out of the room and bumped into his Jay-hyung. “Sunoo-yah, let’s go?” Jay asked and Sunoo nodded as they both made their way out of the dorm.
Sunoo didn’t really have much to do in class because he had already finished all his work beforehand. So he spent most of his time in the library making a scrapbook for Ni-ki. He printed out photos of him and them both.
Sunoo loved all things colorful so he was definitely ‘that one stationary kid’ that had the newest 64 pack of crayons and always had colored paper with him. He spent most of the day decorating and writing random sweet compliments beside the pictures he pasted.
At the end of the scrapbook, he planned on writing a letter about how grateful he was for all the memories they made together and how he hoped they would continue to make more.
Sunoo had been too focused on making the scrapbook that he didn’t notice that it was already his last class. He didn’t have to do anything anyway since he was done with everything so he just continued to put the finishing touches on the scrapbook.
“What’s that Sunoo?” A curious Jay asked peeking over Sunoo’s shoulder. Sunoo flinched at the sudden question and immediately closed the scrapbook which didn’t really do anything cause the cover page had big writing that said ‘My dearest Ni-ki’.
Sunoo’s reaction made Jay laugh and sit back in his seat. “Ahh, you’re so cute Sunoo-yah.” Jay said while wiping the imaginary tears in his eyes. “You scared me! God hyung you’re so annoying.” Sunoo said while rolling his eyes as he brought his attention back to the scrapbook.
“I won’t be going home right after class, I have to go buy something first. Can you tell Ni-ki-yah to wait for a bit?” Sunoo said to the older, eyes still focused on the sticker he was about to put on the last page of the scrapbook.
“Where are you going?” Jay asked the younger, genuinely curious. “I need to pass by the flower shop.” Sunoo said, which made Jay smirk and tease the younger about it.
Moments after, the bell rang, indicating it was dismissal time. Sunoo packed his things and said goodbye to Jay. He went in the car and told their driver to pass by the flower shop.
Jay was in the other car and he told the driver to go back to the dorm. He thought it was cute of Sunoo to prepare all these things for Ni-ki. It was usually Ni-ki giving him flowers, buying him his favorite mint chocolate snack, taking him out to a picnic, and all that.
He was glad it wasn’t a one-sided thing and that they both took care of each other so well. The driver told him that they had already arrived and Jay said thank you to the driver before he got off and went into the house.
“I CAN’T BREATHE”
“Calm down Ni-ki-yah, it can’t be that hard to pick an outfit!”
“BUT IT IS HYUNG! I canf do thsi anymroe.”
“Okay, he said to dress comfortably, so casual should do!”
“You’re overthinking this Ni-ki-ssi.”
Jay didn’t know he would come home to a panicking Ni-ki and the members trying to calm him down. He thought it was a hilarious sight and that Ni-ki really didn’t have anything to panic about.
“Yah, Sunoo had to buy something so wait for him.” Jay said as he went into Ni-ki's closet to help him out with his outfit. The poor kid looked so constipated and like he was gonna cry soon.
“You poor thing. Here, let me help you.” Jay said as he chuckled at how his dongsaeng was acting.
A few minutes after Ni-ki had finally finished changing into his outfit, the doorbell rang. All the panic in him suddenly came back, he was afraid he wouldn’t know how to act. “Hey, you’ll do fine Ni-ki. Just be you! It’s just you and Sunoo anyway.” Jake said to the younger as the other members nodded in agreement.
He then mustered up all the courage he had left in him to walk to the door and open it. Behind it was an extremely gorgeous Kim Sunoo, holding a bouquet of his favorite flowers, sunflowers.
“You clean up nicely, Niks.” Sunoo complimented the younger as he extended the bouquet of flowers to him. Ni-ki’s ears turned red as he quickly grabbed the bouquet of flowers and smelled it so that he could hide the obvious blush on his cheeks.
“These are my favorite. Thank you, hyung.” Ni-ki said successfully without stuttering. To say Ni-ki was nervous would be an understatement. His hyung had never done anything like this and he was never this bold.
“Ah, you’re so adorable, Ni-ki-yah.” Sunoo playfully pinched his cheeks as he offered his hand to Ni-ki for him to hold. “Let’s go?” Sunoo asked Ni-ki who was just staring at him like he was the prettiest thing he ever laid his eyes on.
Ni-ki was brought back to reality when he heard Sunghoon yelling “JUST TAKE HIS HAND ALREADY DAMN IT. WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SLOW BURN-”. Sunghoon was cut off by Jake who lightly slapped his arm and scolded him for cursing. He did not know how long he had been staring at his hyung which made him really shy.
He took his hand in his as they continued to walk out the door. “Please take care! Bring Ni-ki home before 12. Our baby boy is all grown up now.” Heeseung said while he comforted Jake who was sniffling.
“Yah! I live here too, hello?!?!” Sunoo said to Heeseung as the other members waved goodbye with smiles on their faces.
Sunoo opened the door for Ni-ki which made the younger smile. Ni-ki thought about how he probably won’t be able to take the whole zoo in his stomach if his hyung continued to treat him like this.
Sunoo then sat down beside the younger in the car and told the driver where to go, making sure the younger couldn’t hear their conversation. Ni-ki had no idea what was gonna happen today, whatever it was, he knew he’d have fun because he had his hyung by his side.
“If I’m being honest, I was really nervous about this hyung.” Ni-ki confesses to the older which made him laugh. “What? Why? It’s just me anyway. You don’t have to be someone else when you’re with me. I like you for you.” Sunoo said to reassure the younger as he reached out for his hand.
Ni-ki just smiled at his response because he felt like if he opened his mouth to say something, nothing would come out. His insides were turning and he felt like he was gonna faint anytime soon if his hyung kept being this bold.
The car ride was silent but it wasn’t uncomfortable, in fact, it was one of the many things they enjoyed about each other’s company. They didn’t have to have endless conversations to enjoy the time they spent with each other.
The driver told them that they had arrived at their first destination already. They both thanked the driver and got off the car.
Sunoo saw the younger’s eyes light up when he saw the huge roller coasters and ferris wheel. “No way. We talked about going here before! I didn’t know they finished constructing it already!” Ni-ki exclaimed.
“Yeah, I actually had the manager contact them to open it a day earlier so we could have it all to ourselves!” Sunoo said, which made Ni-ki smile. He linked his arm with his and dragged him to the entrance so they could get their passes.
“There’s so much to do. Where should we begin, Niks?” Sunoo asked the younger who kept eyeing the huge pirate ship that swung back and forth.
‘Lord, please not that one.’ Sunoo thought, hoping the younger would pick a ride that would not make him vomit or separate his soul from his body.
“The ship! I want to try that, please hyungg.” Ni-ki said as he held Sunoo’s hand to drag him to where it was.
“I cannot believe we are doing this.” Sunoo said as the operator tightened their seatbelts. “Hyung, did you know that someone didn’t hold on to the handle so they flew off the ride?” Ni-ki told his hyung with a huge grin plastered on his face.
“YAH! Why are we here then?! I don’t want to fly Ni-ki-ssi!” Sunoo said as he was about to cry. “I’m just kidding hyung! Don’t worry, you won’t fly off! Just hold on tight.” Ni-ki said to the older who clung to him and the handle in front of them.
It started off slow and steady until it gradually went higher and faster. Every time they would swing up high, he would scream at how far they were from the ground, and every time they’d go back down, he felt like his soul had left his body.
They were so close to turning upside down. ‘I obviously did not think this through.’ Sunoo thought but he saw the younger who was enjoying the ride. Smile huge and hands up in the air. Sunoo smiled as he continued to focus on the younger, completely forgetting about the ride.
As soon as they got off the ride, Sunoo’s legs were kinda wobbly which made the younger laugh. Ni-ki went behind Sunoo to back hug him as they decided on which ride to go on next. “I honestly felt like I was gonna die but I’m glad you enjoyed it Niks.” Sunoo said as he leaned his head on the younger’s shoulder to get a view of him.
Ni-ki realized that they were so close to each other but he didn’t want to stop hugging his hyung so he just chuckled at him and suggested they go on the rollercoaster next. Hours have passed of them trying out all the rides the amusement park had to offer.
As they were walking while munching on their corn dogs, Ni-ki saw a cute teddy bear at one of the booths. Sunoo immediately dragged him towards the booth so that he could get him the teddy bear he wanted.
“Are you actually trying to win me that teddy bear hyung? I feel like I’m in a movie.” Ni-ki said as he held the older’s corndog for him so he could focus on the game.
It was pretty easy, all Sunoo had to do was pop 3 balloons of the same color with the 4 darts. “This should be easy.” Sunoo said cockily as he rolled up his sleeves so he could bend his elbow well.
“HAHAHAHAHA, hyung, you’re supposed to pop the balloons! How are you missing all of them?” Ni-ki said to tease his hyung who was obviously struggling. Sunoo was clearly embarrassed but he just rolled his eyes at the younger to mask it.
Though Sunoo masked his emotions flawlessly, Ni-ki can see right through it. He chuckled at how silly his hyung was. “Let me try.” Ni-ki said, confident in his abilities. He chose to pop the red balloons so he focused on it and just threw the darts at them.
And just like that, he popped 3 red balloons. “Yah! How did you do that? Didn’t know you were so good at darts.” Sunoo said Ni-ki as he clung onto his arm. Ni-ki wore a proud smile as the guy gave him the teddy bear he pointed at. He turned around to Sunoo and gave it to him.
“I thought you wanted it?” Sunoo asked the younger, confused by his actions. “We can share.” the younger said with a smile. Sunoo smiled back and leaned on his shoulder, still clinging onto his arm.
“We should go on the ferris wheel, the sun is about to set.” Sunoo suggested and Ni-ki hummed in agreement as they walked towards the last ride they were about to go on.
They went on the gondola and sat in front of each other. The skies started turning pink with a mix of orange. Sunoo thought now was probably a good time to give him the scrapbook. He started rummaging through his bag while Ni-ki was curious of what his hyung was looking for.
Once he got a hold of the scrapbook, he pulled it out. “Uhm, here. I made this at school because I know how much you love handmade gifts. Happy SunKi day Ni-ki.” Sunoo said, slightly worried that he might not like it.
Ni-ki smiled at his hyung and opened the scrapbook. He made sure he read every word, stared at every picture, and appreciated the decoration before he flipped to the next page. Before he knew it, he was at the last page which just had a letter on it.
‘To my dearest Ni-ki,
Happy SunKi Day! I’m so grateful we debuted together. If I’m being honest, you were the one person I really wanted to debut with so seeing us now makes me very happy. Thank you for always being there for me. You read me so well and it makes my heart flutter to know that I have someone that knows me that well. Thank you for taking care of me regardless, if I’m at my lowest or highest, you make sure to shower me with your affection. Thank you for all the memories and laughs we shared with each other. I hope we continue to make more every day because I have a lot of fun reminiscing about them. I’m sorry if I had any shortcomings Ni-ki-yah. I’m sorry if it was mostly you putting effort to get closer to me. That’s why I really am happy that today happened. I wouldn’t want to spend today any other way. Whenever I look at you, I find more reasons to admire and adore you. Please always take care of yourself Ni-ki. I love you a lot.
From, your oosun ^-^’
Ni-ki had just finished reading the letter at the end of the scrapbook. He didn’t notice his face was already wet from crying. “I know it’s not much but I worked really hard-” Sunoo said but was cut off by the younger hugging him tightly like it would be their last hug.
“Happy SunKi day, hyung. I love you too.” Ni-ki said sincerely to the older. After a while, he pulled away from the hug so he could see his hyung’s face. Sunoo smiled at the younger and kissed the remaining tears away.
Ni-ki just smiled, feeling absolutely contented and happy. They stayed like that for a while. Sunoo wanted to document this moment so he asked Ni-ki if he wanted to take a selca for them to post on twitter.
Sunoo took out his phone to take a selca. Ni-ki was back hugging him with his head on top of his shoulder. It was a perfect selca to post, he thought. He typed the caption “Happy SunKi day!” with a few hashtags and then tweeted it. The engenes went crazy over it. Others already started making edits, tiktoks, and other stuff.
They had reached the bottom of the ferris wheel so they had to go down already. It was getting kinda dark since the sun had already set. They decided to go home so that their hyungs wouldn’t worry about them.
They got in the car and told the driver to go home. Just like the car ride earlier, it was silent but they both just held hands. On Ni-ki’s other hand was the scrapbook he would definitely reread again tonight before he slept.
Not too long after, they thanked the driver for taking them home safely. They walked towards the door and opened it to the hyungs sitting together in the living room. When they saw the two enter the house, they were bombarded with so many questions.
“So how was it?”
“What did you guys do?”
“You guys are literally trending on twitter.”
“Hyungs, Jungwon-ah, that’s enough. I’m tired. I’ll wash up and go to sleep.” Sunoo said and yawned right after. “Yeah, me too. Goodnight hyungs.” Ni-ki said following his Sunoo hyung to their room.
They both took turns showering and they changed into their pajamas. Ni-ki was first to finish since Sunoo had to do his skincare routine. Ni-ki grabbed the scrapbook and reread it again. He loved how Sunoo designed it because it was full of color. He loved the pictures and the memories behind them but his favorite part was the letter.
“Are you seriously reading it again?” Sunoo said as he climbed up to the top bunk of Heesueng’s bed. “Yes, of course! It’s so sweet, I can’t get over it.” Ni-ki replied, which made Sunoo giggle at how cute he was. He laid down on his bed, getting ready to sleep, when he felt the bed shaking and the younger climbing into bed with him.
“Yah! You’re such a child! You have your own bed, Niks.” Sunoo said while laughing at how clingy his dongsaeng was. “I don’t care. I sleep better with you anyway! Now shush, I’m trying to sleep.” Ni-ki said, which made Sunoo scoff and roll his eyes.
He pulled the blanket over himself and the younger as Ni-ki shuffled closer to his hyung. Sunoo smiled at how their giant maknae loved being the little spoon. He could hear the little snores the younger was making. “Such a big baby.” Sunoo said and kissed the younger’s forehead while he ran his hand through his hair, playing with it.
He saw the younger softly smiling at his actions. He looked at his face for a little while to appreciate each and every feature of the younger. He never told Ni-ki but, he too sleeps better with him by his side.
He felt himself slowly drifting off to sleep with the younger in his arms and his hand still tangled in his hair.
