Chapter Text

     "you aren't supposed to exist!

(Y/N) remembers these words well, and they make her entire being feel cold. It all started at that party she'd gone to. Papyrus had been hesitant on bringing her in the first place, and now as she thought about it, she probably should have stayed home that night. In all reality, though, the party had been rather nice. The entire concept of AUs was foreign to (Y/N), but most of the alternate Sans' and Papyrus' she'd met had been nice enough.

They all went by different nicknames for the sake of everyone's sanity. The first one she'd met had been the nerdy one with glasses, as they called him Sci. They hadn't spoken much, as Papyrus had dragged her away soon after meeting, but Sci had seemed sweet. The night had been fun, despite (Y/N) spending most of it near Papyrus. Her Papyrus, with his usual hoodie that just said 'UGLY CHRISTMAS SWEATER' on it.

The night had been fun, and despite getting some odd looks from some of the skeletons there, (Y/N) was happy to be spending it with the two she loved the most. As she sat next to Pap, a reaper guy, Classic, and the host of the party (who was extremely intoxicated, by the way), she finds herself wondering how Chara was doing. The child had been rather adamant on (Y/N) doing to this Christmas party, saying something about them being 'a total hermit who only hangs out around the same people (monsters) all of the time'. They were right, of course, but she had agreed to go... for some reason.

She definitely regretted it now.

The pleasant night had come to a screeching halt the moment she met the alternate, Error.

Blue had introduced them, oblivious to what would follow. (Y/N) didn't blame him, of course. He had always had the purest of intentions, especially when it came to her. They were best friends, after all!

"this is (Y/N)! she's our human friend from back in our universe," Blue explains, his gloved digits clutching at her sweater as she awkwardly waves at the other two skeletons she hadn't met yet. One was glitching out, with little errors surrounding his being. The other looked like a total frat Chad. "YO! so you're from underswap? rad," Fresh, as she'd come to call him, seemed entirely fake. On the other hand, there was the glitching skeleton.

He was looking at her like he wanted her dead.

"... 'nomaly,

(Y/N) barely caught onto what he had said, too intimidated by his searing glare. However, she definitely heard the last part.

"you aren't supposed to exist!

They all left after that.

Now, she sat with Papyrus at Muffet's. The booth they were sitting at was their usual, but somehow it felt more comforting than usual. The two of them were quiet, which was certainly unusual, and it earned them looks from Muffet herself as the Spider worked around hangout.

Papyrus felt bad, because in all reality that whole shebang could have been avoided if he'd kept her around him the entire night. That's what he was planning on, anyway, but he'd gotten distracted with the trashed Geno and the literal grim reaper at the party. He had heard everything, too, and Papyrus had honestly never been so enraged in his life. Sans had flipped out, she had gotten so incredibly emotional, and he had been on the verge of committing a homicide.

Now, though, she just looked sad. Worried, too. (Y/N) had always been a bit of an overthinker, and the whole situation was messing with her head. Pap had taken her to Muffet's in hopes of lifting her spirits, however, it didn't really seem to be working. Donuts had always worked in the past, but now she looked at the sweet with slight distain in her eyes. He felt sorta helpless.

"Listen..." he starts, picking up a honey-covered donut with his digits. "That Guy Error Has Always Been a Square. He Hates Everyone That's From An AU, If You Listen To What He Has To Say, You'll Just Hurt Yourself In The Process."

He was right, of course.

(Y/N) had been talking to Dream (now that she thought about it, she couldn't remember how she met him) and he had told her something similar. She should have known who he was, in hindsight. Dream had described Error well, and even Papyrus knew who he was. Even so, that didn't make her think any less about what he'd said.

An anomaly

It sounded weird in her head, (Y/N) couldn't fathom actually saying it out loud.

It was messing with her head.

On their way home, Papyrus walks with his bony arm slung over her shoulder, the usual atmosphere back again, albeit a little faded. Papyrus had cracked a horrendously bad joke before they left Muffet's, and it had dragged (Y/N) out of her dark state of mind. He was tall, like extremely tall, so she had to look up at him in order to say anything.

"You're great, you know that?"

He snorts, affectionately poking at her cheek with his bony digit. His cheekbones have gone a little orange, but neither of them comments on it.

"I Know. Thanks, Honey."

And he'd truly do anything to keep that smile on her face.
