Chapter Text
Eri was quite the sweet kid, but she was shy around those she didn't know. Her father, Mirio, knew this very well and he can agree the first day of Kindergarten would be nerve racking to anyone. Eri held onto his hand for dear life as they walked up to the school, other parents were at the door, wishing their kids good luck on the first day. But there were a few other people at the front door with their kids who would probably be in the same class as Eri.
When they got to the door with everyone else, Eri cowered behind her dad, holding on to his large leg. It hurts him to see her like this, he really just wishes she could be the fun and confident girl she was around him; with everyone else.
“Come Eri, let’s go inside and meet your teacher,” Mirio said, holding onto her hand again. But Eri pulled with all her might when her father tried, “No, I don’t want to,” she yelled and pulled even harder. Now this wasn’t enough to make Mirio even budge a millimeter. He crouched down to look his daughter in the eyes, “Eri, we have to go in. I’ll go in with you, and I bet your teacher is a really nice lady and she’ll be expecting you in her class you know.”
She stopped trying to pull against her dad and followed him inside. She stayed close by his side as they made it to her class room.
The room was colourful and filled with toys. The desks were set up in 3 groups of 5, all around a blue carpet. In front of the carpet was a rocking chair with a green cushion. On the whiteboard the words “Welcome to kindergarten” were written in alternating rainbow colours. Lots of the walls were blank, so that when the kids made stuff the teacher could put it up. But above the whiteboard there was the alphabet and numbers up to 20 and on either side was a board labeled ‘reading comprehension’ and ‘starboard’.
The room was so nice looking. The teacher in the room came up to us. He was a shorter man, with wild green hair and a face coated in freckles. But this couldn’t have been Eris' teacher, did they have the wrong room? The paper said that her teacher was a woman.
“Hi, I’m Mr. Midoriya,” he held out his hand for Mirio to shake it. And now Mirio was confused because on the paper it had written that Mrs. Midoriya would be her teacher. Midoriya turned his attention to Eri, “and what’s your name?” But Eri stayed quiet, hiding behind her fathers leg.
The young teacher looked back up at her father. “Her name is Eri, she’s just shy,” her father responded.
Mr. Midoriya switched his attention over to Eri again. “Of course, Eri Togata right? I’m so happy you could be here. Would you like to go take a seat?” She slowly nodded, taking a seat beside a froggy looking girl, who wore a yellow dress.
“Alright, so, Mr. Togata, I have a few things to go over with and give you,” Mr. Midoriya said. Walking over to his desk. Mirio followed him, “don’t worry yourself with formalities, just call me Mirio, please.”
“Oh alright, Mirio, then call me Izuku.”
He gave me several slips of paper, and explained it, the man talked a mile a minute and I Barely got a single word in. He explained their curriculum, rules, and classroom expectations, all in less than 10 minutes.
“You can stay for as long as you need to, lots of parents don’t like to say goodbye to their kids.” He gestured to the parents still in the room. Mirio looked over at Eri as she openly chatted with the other kids, she wasn’t scared anymore, in fact she had the biggest smile on her face.
“As much as I would love to stay, I have to go to work. And Eri looks like she’s doing just fine.”
Izuku nodded, waved him goodbye and started to teach his class.
