"I hit him," Izuna confesses instead, because the words have been sitting swollen in his throat since it happened. "The Sacrifice."
"Good," Madara says.
Izuna reels back.
Madara scowls. "Good," he repeats. "Hit him again. Hit him more. That's what you're supposed to do. Someone has to, that's the whole point, remember?"
"But he's—"
"He's an enemy, and he was trying to kill you," Madara says firmly. "You're supposed to fight him, because the rest of us can't."
(Izuna-centric fic. Mythology-religion freeform AU where Tobirama is considered blessed by the gods by the Uchiha, but they still need to deal with him as an enemy, so Izuna is ritually disowned from the Uchiha and given a special role responsible for protecting/fighting him.)
