Work Text:
You walked to that large forest unintentionally.
Well, you thought, this wasn't exactly unintentional. The more you thought about it, the more you felt as if something had drawn you here. Though, you couldn't quite pinpoint what or who had led you to this place in the middle of the night. No one had directly told you to come here, no texts no nothing. There was just something there that you couldn't quite wrap your head around.
It was oddly cold for a summer evening, your t-shirt and sweatpants didn't help you stay warm. The greenery of the forest felt almost too welcoming and a bit of a darker green than you remembered.
Then you started to feel wrong, your insides felt like they were moving and you felt like you were going to puke. You brushed it off as you being hungry (you hadn't eaten much during the day) even though you were now incredibly worried.
You had heard legends of people transforming into things, like animals, but those were just myths, right? You hoped you were right. You didn't want to lose yourself, you didn't want to know what it felt like to be something else.
As you walked even deeper into the woods, dodging the low-hanging branches on the abandoned path, your head started pounding. It was nothing like you had ever experienced before. Sure you've had bad headaches in the past, but this? This was horrible, unbearable even.
After a few moments, you began feeling dizzy, and, as much as you tried to keep them open, your eyes flickered closed.
Your eyes flew open and you lifted yourself to a sitting position to look around. Everything seemed so much bigger. No, this couldn't be happening. You didn't shrink, you didn't. You're dreaming, you have to be! You frantically turned your attention to your weirdly aching hands. You gasped and watched in horror as your fingers began elongating and fusing.
Then everything started to hurt and you knew, this wasn't a dream.
It was torture, feeling and hearing the agonizing pain of your body cracking, popping, and rearranging itself. You screamed, tears pouring down your face. Your arms and hands turned into wings, small cuts in your skin were growing feathers, your skull was stretching and sculpting itself outward to form a beak. Your body twisted and changed as you felt the feathers making their way up to your face, surrounding your newly-transformed mouth. You felt your toes moving, fusing, thinning, and stretching and your leg bones snap and mix with your skin, forming a more, what you realized to be, bird-like stance.
Why was this happening to you, of all the people in the world?
You tried to scream again, but all that came out were the inhuman cries of a crow.
And that's when all the pain stopped, you had completed your transformation. You tried to hold onto as much of yourself as you could while your mind screamed at you with concepts only new animalistic instincts could provide.
You looked up at the sky and saw an enormous flock of crows. You heard footsteps from behind and a man appeared before you, he had large, dark wings and a friendly smile. He picked you up carefully, and you, the man with the friendly grin, and the flock flew away into the night.
