Work Text:
Sam walked down the streets of New York City. It was that time again, and he needed to get out of the apartment so Max didn't see what he becomes on the nights where there's a full moon. You see, some of his family were werewolves. He knew, it was pretty ironic considering that they already were dogs, but it was a well-kept secret. Even he didn't know about it until one night, about a year ago, in the middle of the night, he turned into a werewolf. He called Granny Ruth the next morning, turns out she was one as well. Because his family was already dogs, the bloodlust part of being a werewolf had somehow cancelled out. It didn't make sense to Sam, but he was still sane.
"Almost there..." Sam said as he made it to his destination, an abandoned warehouse by the docks. Granny Ruth had recommend the place to hide out from Max whenever the full moon was out. Max still wasn't aware that Sam had turned into a werewolf. Most of the time, he left after Max fell asleep, usually thanks to the sleeping pills he always snuck into the Kool-Aid he always made for his husband. Max was fine with it, he liked being sedated some of the times anyways.
"Maybe I should tell him... Nah." Sam thought out loud as he entered the warehouse, it was almost that time. He got the key, and unlocked the door. After he got inside, he locked the door. He really couldn't tell Max about his condition, what if he didn't like it? What if he tried to leave him because of that? Either way, it was better for the both of them that Max didn't see him as a werewolf.
"Let's see..." Sam said as he noticed the full moon shining through the window. It was happening. Sam felt his body tingling all over as he got buffer, taller, and he took on the form of a werewolf. Sam let out a howl, as he stretched. He wore stretchy clothing so he wouldn't cause any of his suits to be ruined.
"Well, here we go again." Sam said in a gruff voice as he went over to a corner of the warehouse. He had left some stuff there in the past. A battery-operated lamp and some noir novels. He had a long night ahead of him.
"Damn, out of juice!" Sam said as he tried turning on the lamp.
"Good thing I brought spares." Sam said as he took out a screwdriver from his inventory.
"The extra strength in this form sure comes in handy sometimes!" Sam said as he tore off the cover, and replaced the batteries, before putting the old ones in his inventory. Sam tried again, and the lamp turned on, good as new.
"Alright, let's see what dashing adventure Flint Paper is on this month..." Sam said as he pulled a novel about Flint Paper's adventures that he left last month. Flint Paper had a series of noir novels that helped pay for bills and stuff. Sam always liked getting the latest book, and sometimes, Flint would sign it for him when they passed his office. Sam opened the book, and started reading.

Meanwhile, back at the apartment, Max was sitting on the couch, watching old reruns while eating popcorn. His appearance was more muscular, and scruffier, similar to Sam.
"Huh, who would have ever thought that old hag would have been an actual witch?" Max said as he tore into the popcorn, crunching loudly as he continued to watch. Max was referring to a case from a few weeks ago where he and Sam managed to bust what they thought was a phony fortune teller. As she was arrested, she yelled in some weird chant, and Max was cursed. Although they didn't know it at the time. This night, he turned into a werelagomorph. The witch probably tried to make him a bloodthirsty monster to wreck havoc and bloodshed in revenge. Of course, she didn't know that was what Max was like always, so he was unaffected by it.
"I really wanna show Sam this! Maybe later!" Max said. Unfortunately for him, Sam had left a few hours ago, he needed to go out on a walk, he said. Max knew he was probably out punching criminals. He wished Sam would bring him with him.
"God, this is so boring without Sam!" Max said. Suddenly, his eyes felt really heavy, as he slowly began to close them. Before he knew it, he was asleep, dreaming of all the cool things he could now do as a werelagomorph.
"Max?" A voice called out. Max slowly woke up, and noticed that Sam was standing in front of him. Max looked down and noticed that he was his usual marketable self.
"Oh, hey Sam!" Max said.
"Hey Max, see you left the TV on." Sam said as he turned it off.
"Where were you?" Max said.
"Oh, just out and about." Sam said.
"Alright." Max said as he got up.
"So now what?" Max said.
"I'll go make some breakfast, c'mon little buddy." Sam said as he led Max to the kitchen.
~~
"He's over there Sam!" Max said as he and Sam were chasing a suspect. A month had passed since Max last turned into a werelagomorph, and Sam still had no clue about it.
"I'm right behind them Max!" Sam said as he sprinted as fast as he could go.
"C'mon, we've almost got him!" Max said.
"I know!" Sam said.
"DEATH FROM ABOVE!" Max shouted as he lunged onto the suspect, and mauled him.
"Good work little buddy!" Sam said.
"I try my best!" Max said as he slapped some handcuffs on the suspect. The two then left, and started walking back to the DeSoto.
"Hey Sam, I hear tonight's going to be a full moon!" Max said.
"Really?" Sam said.
"Yeah! And there's no clouds in the sky tonight, I want to do something special with you, there's something special I want to show you." Max said.
"Maybe another time Max, I've got somewhere to go tonight." Sam said.
"But you always go somewhere on full moons! I want to be with you!" Max said.
"Another night Max, this is something serious." Sam said.
"Fine..." Max said as he got in the passenger seat of the DeSoto.
"Max, I'll make it up for you right now. Get out of the seat." Sam said. Max looked at him with glee.
"Sam, you can't mean?!" Max said happily.
"Yep, we'll spend the rest of the day highway surfing!" Sam said as Max engulfed him in a hug.
"Thanks Sam, you're the best husband ever!" Max said.
"Anything for my little buddy." Sam said as he started the DeSoto, and went to the highway to start their favorite pastime.
~~
It was now nighttime. Sam had once again left the building, Max was watching a new episode of his favorite show, and Sam knew he wouldn't want to miss it. He walked down to the docks, and went to the usual spot.
"Here we go again..." Sam said as he got out the key, and entered the warehouse. He went over to where the lamp and books were, and after the transformation, pulled out another Flint Paper novel, and started reading it before he heard the door open.
"Damn! Forgot to lock the door!" Sam thought as he turned off the lamp so he could hide in the darkness. He then heard a familiar voice.
"Sam? Where are you?" Max's voice rang out, as Sam continued to hide as he saw a faint view of Max's figure coming towards him, only to notice something was different about him.
"Sam, I know you're in there, come out." Max said.
"Fine." Sam said as he turned the lamp back on, revealing himself to Max. He also noticed how different Max looked.
"Wait, Max are you a werewolf?!" Sam said.
"Well actually Sam, the term is werelagomorph, but it's the same kind of thing!" Max said.
"Huh." Sam said.
"I notice that you're a werewolf yourself!" Max said.
"You're not going to leave me?" Sam said.
"Leave you?! Why would I ever leave you because of that?! I think you're even sexier now! C'mon Sam, let's get back to the apartment, and you can tell me all about why you're a werewolf!" Max said.
"Only if you tell me why you're a werelagomorph." Sam said.
"Deal." Max said as the two left.
~~
"So what you're telling me is that witch we arrested last month cursed you to become a werelagomorph?" Sam said as he sat on the couch back at his and Max's apartment.
"Yep! It's actually pretty fun being a werelagomorph!" Max said.
"Well, I guess my fears were kind of dumb, huh Max?" Sam said.
"Well Sam, you're sexy! Do you think I'm sexy?" Max said.
"Of course Max, you're always sexy." Sam said as he kissed Max's forehead, Max blushed.
"Aw, Sammy! You're making me blush!" Max said.
"Well, I do love you." Sam said.
"I know." Max said.
~~
"So Max, what did you want to show me?" Sam said as Max pulled him up to the roof using his werewolf strength.
"This!" Max said as the night sky was clear as day, and the stars were visible alongside the moon.
"Sam, I wanted to show you this as well as my new form. Of course it turns out we're both basically the same. But whatever!" Max said.
"And?" Sam said as Max all of a sudden, pulled him in for a kiss.
"I love you Sam, no matter what you look like, you're still my soulmate." Max said as he went back in for another kiss. The two ended up doing this for a long time, until the sun rose, and the two became normal again.
"C'mon little buddy, let's get some sleep." Sam said as he carried Max back to their apartment.
"Ok!" Max said, as the two got ready to get some much-needed sleep.
