A little earlier (I'm sorry I love you)

Summary:

What if Minhyun reached Junho a bit earlier? What if he fed him his blood?

Or

An alternative ending to Kissable Lips because I can't accept Junho's death

Notes:

This was originally supposed to be a "Minhyun's feelings over Junho dying" but I couldn't get myself to write that so here is an alternative ending.

Work Text:

He can see Junho dying in his arms, his feet already fading into nothing. He's got no choice anymore, desperately he slices his arm open using Junho's teeth and forces the blood down his throat. He can see Junho choking on it, not that it matters right now. He has to keep him alive, no matter what

He doesn’t know how long he presses on his arm, trying to get as much blood in his boyfriend as possible, doesn’t know how much time has passed, he just knows that he can’t allow him to die. Junho is too selfless, he’s realized long ago. Junho loves with his whole heart and soul and he’s chosen Minhyun to love. Thus he can’t and won’t allow anyone, even himself, to inflict any pain on him - no matter how much Minhyun begs or much Junho needs his blood.

Junho is willing to die for Minhyun, he realizes over and over again and it scares him.

Junho, this strong and stone-cold vampire who doesn’t take anyone’s crap, Junho who has proven his determination and anger over and over again, would rather die than risk Minhyun’s well-being. Unfortunately, Minhyun doesn’t have time to concern himself with such worries and doing what Junho wants, he has to keep the love of his life alive. He can’t imagine even for a second what it would be like to lose Junho - the second the vampire walked into his life he couldn’t think of a life not including him.

Time moves slowly as more and more blood leaves his veins and runs down Junho’s throat, what can’t have been more than maybe a minute feels like hours as he stares at the vampire’s still disappeared foot. At least it didn’t creep up further, the blood seems to at least have slowed down the process.
Junho is still unconscious though, his eyes closed and his face resting in an almost peaceful expression - as if he’s made his peace with dying as long as Minhyun is alright.

Tears start to spill out of his eyes when Minhyun presses a soft kiss on his boyfriend’s forehead. If he can’t save him he at least wants to make him feel loved while he passes.
Maybe it’s silly or even stupid, he doesn’t even know if Junho can feel anything he’s doing if he isn’t already dead inside if what he’s doing has any worth at all. But he can’t stop himself either, needs to do whatever he can. Everything for Junho.

The realization that he would die for Junho hits a lot less than when he realized Junho would die for him.

He’s now crying freely, nothing stopping his tears. He’s all alone on a rooftop with his dying boyfriend in his arms. That’s not how it was supposed to be.
They were supposed to graduate together. Junho was supposed to squeeze his hand before he walks up to get his diploma and Minhyun was supposed to do the same for him. They were supposed to walk home hand in hand, this day and any day after. When they go to university they were supposed to walk hand in hand, when they graduate they were supposed to hold each other’s hand again and when they’d walk down the aisle eventually Junho would grab his hand again. They weren’t supposed to let go of each other. |
It was supposed to be the two of them, always and forever. Just them against the world, because all they would need is each other.

They got past Minwoo being against their relationship, they got past Haesoo and his general Haesoo-ness - and now something as silly as death is supposed to part them?? No thank you, Minhyun thinks. He’s got to bring his boyfriend back alive.

Blinded by his tears he doesn’t realize how he’s stopped squeezing his own arm, more or less stopping the blood flow. He only realizes when he feels a weird tension on his arm, something he’s never felt before. If he was supposed to describe it he wouldn’t have words for it. But it felt amazing.

He doesn’t piece it together until he’s wiped his tears away and stares into blue shimmering eyes. Eyes that are very much alive, eyes that look devouring at him, eyes that belong to his boyfriend. The weird tension is Junho sucking the blood out of him.

Immediately he stares down at his foot, which still hasn’t returned. Instead, a crust of skin has built a bit over where his ankle is supposed to be. “Hyung!” The yell seems to tear Junho away from his arm, he stops sucking at it immediately, his lips leaving the wound.

“Hyung” Minhyun whispers again, as to verify that he’s not imagining things, it’s really Junho in front of him, not dead, not disappearing. Just Junho. Junho, whose eyes have turned black again, who looks at him with so much confusion that it hurts.

“Minhyunie?” It sounds more like a question than anything and it breaks his heart. He never wants to see his boyfriend so lost, confused, fragile, and scared again.
“Yes hyung, it’s me.” He presses yet another kiss to his forehead. “You’re okay. We’re okay.” Junho nods slightly, he trusts Minhyun and when Minhyun says they’re okay then they must be.

His eyes wander around in confusion, never before has he seen so clearly. It is almost overwhelming, he’s used to seeing everything in a blur. When his eyes finally graze Minhyun’s arm he yelps in shock and horror. There is a wound on his arm that looks dangerously much like teeth and which has not stopped bleeding fully.

“Was- was that me?” He asks, scared for the answer but needing clarification. Of course, it must’ve been him, he’s the only vampire around. And he hates himself for it already.
“No, not really. I used your teeth to tear my skin open for you to drink. So it was me.” Something akin to a laugh leaves Junho’s throat, he’s too stunned to do anything else. On second thought, he shouldn’t be that surprised. Leave it to his boyfriend to do something stupid like this.

“You, my love, are absolutely insane.” He chuckles softly before drawing Minhyun into a soft kiss. He tries to convey everything he can’t say in the kiss. His gratitude, his love, his fear, his pain, his adoration, and trust. Minhyun responds just as eagerly, holding Junho as close as he possibly can.

“I love you hyung” He whispers against his lips when they finally part.
“I love you too.” And he kisses him once again, softly pressing his lips on Minhyun’s.

“Are you alright though?” He asks his boyfriend, his own fingers slowly gliding over the wound on Minhyun’s arm.
“I’m fine hyung. I just need to get some food in me and I should be perfectly normal again.” He smiles softly at him before lifting the hand on top of his wound up and pressing a soft kiss on it. “Don’t worry about me.”

“You know as well as I do that this is outside my capacity.” Junho chuckles softly before slowly sitting up, still in Minhyun’s lap.
“Let’s get you some food then.”

Right after those words leave his mound his eyes fall on his no longer existing foot. He exclaims shocked, staring at where his foot used to be.
“Mi- Minhyunie what happened to my foot?” His eyes look at his boyfriend, widened in utter shock.

“I’m not sure hyung” He lifts a hand up and strokes Junho’s cheek softly. “It already was disappeared when I got my blood in you. It probably couldn’t grow back?” Junho nods, this makes a lot of sense. Although he is entirely unable to wrap his head around it just yet - he’s just supposed to live without a foot? How’s that even supposed to work?

He looks back to Minhyun, his eyes leaving the spot his foot was supposed to be. Immediately all worry about his missing limp is forgotten as he looks his beautiful boyfriend up and down.

“Let’s get some food into you.” He decides with newfound determination as he sees how white his boyfriend looks. Said boyfriend just nods in agreement.

Getting up turns out to be a much harder task than expected. First, they have to get Junho off Minhyun which is not as easy as it sounds with them both being tangled together. Then Minhyun has to get up, which only makes him a little bit dizzy. And then comes the hardest part: lifting Junho up - somehow. Eventually, they figure out that he has to put his still existing foot down first, that he has to put all his weight and strength into that leg and after that Minhyun has to pull him up at his hands - sounds easy, right? Except that Minhyun isn’t at his full strength right now and that Junho has always been heavier and stronger than him. After multiple attempts, they finally manage to both get up, Minhyun securing his arm around Junho’s waist who has his arm wrapped around his shoulder.

Finally, they manage to walk - or jump in Junho’s case - to the staircase. What they forgot to consider was how difficult it would be to walk down the stairs.

“Alright, this isn’t working” Minhyun sighs after half a stair. “It has to, love.” Junho tries his best to show some determination but even he can admit that this is a fruitless task.
Eventually, Minhyun sighs and pulls out his phone, searching for a certain number.

“Hyung?” He asks once the person on the other side has finally picked up. “Are you busy right now?” He hums a bit, probably listening to the answer.
“Can you come to pick me up, please? We’re having a bit of a situat- no, no don’t worry I’m totally fine.” He hums shortly in agreement before thanking the other person and thanking him quickly.

“My brother is picking us up.” He explains to Junho, who has just looked at him curiously but didn’t interrupt him. He nods warily, remembering all too well the last time he met Minwoo.
“Don’t worry, it’ll be fine. We just have to get down the stairs.”

With a combination of a lot of teamwork, helping each other, and breaks they finally reach the entrance of the building where MInwoo already awaits them. He judgingly looks Junho up and down who just looks down in resignment.

“Don’t look at him like this hyung. Please?” He tries to show his brother his most adorable smile that he knows Minwoo can’t resent. And as always he just sighs and nods.

“You better have a really good explanation for this” He warns as he gestures towards his car.
“We do, hyung. Can you help me carry Junho-hyung?” Minhyun asks again, pleading with his brother with his eyes. It is just then that Minwoo notices Junho’s missing foot. He nods quickly and places himself on Junho’s other side, helping them both walk - or jump - to the car.
Not without muttering about really needing an explanation though.

The whole car ride is spent with Minhyun and Junho explaining the situation and Minwoo’s shocked exclamations alongside them.
“You two will be the end of me.” He sighs once again before walking them up to the shared apartment of the brothers.

“You two, sit down on the couch - don’t you dare do anything to my brother Junho! - and I’ll go get some food.” Minwoo orders, quickly getting the agreement of both. As much as he is annoyed with Minhyun and can’t stand Junho sometimes, he is still his brother’s older brother and would do pretty much anything for him and by extension his beloved boyfriend by now as well.

As instructed they sit side by side on the couch, Minhyun resting his head on Junho’s shoulder and holding his hand in his own. For the first time, Minwoo really focuses on them both, sees past his worry about Minhyun. He sees the happy look in his younger brother’s eyes, how at peace he looks. He sees the adoration in Junho’s eyes when he looks at Minwoo’s brother. He sees the trust they share, the love, and the connection they have. He can tell how precious they are to each other.

So when he leaves the apartment to get food as promised he doesn’t feel as uneasy about MInhyun being with Junho anymore. He doesn’t feel as worried about Minhyun opening his heart for a vampire anymore. And he thinks maybe, just maybe Junho isn’t too bad for his baby brother.

Minhyun cuddles himself closer to Junho’s side as soon as the door closes, craving the closeness of his boyfriend. In a way, he feels the exact same and in a way, he feels completely different.
He still feels the same safety in Junho’s arms, the same feeling of contentment, and the same love. But Junho feels warmer now.
Whenever Minhyun touched Junho in the past he was cold, his skin like ice and his lips like an incredibly soft stone. Now when he touches Junho all he feels is warmth. Junho is warm and Minhyun loves it.

Junho stares at the now dressed wound on his arm, painfully aware of the risk Minhyun has gone through to get him to that point. He can’t even begin to imagine the kind of changes that their lives would go through now, not only because he finally achieved his goal of being human, not only because of his foot but also because of the emotional sacrifices both of them went through. Because they’ve seen the extent of their love. And it’s beautiful yet terrifying.

“We’re gonna be fine, right?” Minhyun asks and Junho nods. They’ll be fine. They’ve got each other after all.
