Work Text:
It was raining outside and neither of the w=two had brought an umbrella. Jin Ling was sitting cross-legged on a desk while Jingyi had pushed another desk beside him. The two sat together side by side, one’s head leaning on a shoulder as they flipped through cassettes. Not noticing the boy who had lent him his shoulder, gazing at him softly with a look of love and admiration.
“What song do you want to listen to? Maybe you'll like this? How about- “
Before Jingyi could finish their sentence, his words were stopped with a kiss. It was gentle and soft, hesitant to push further; cupping their face with delicate hands and a body that leaned in, yearning for touch.
“Or we could do that,” Jingyi lets out a small laugh in an attempt to cover up the embarrassment. But Jin Ling could still see the growing blush that tinted his sharp cheekbones, with a small grin that spread from ear to ear, and eyes wide in shock.
Jin Ling, not knowing where to put his hands asks, “...did you like it?” He grows more and more anxious by the second, worried that he could have possibly just ruined their entire friendship. Of course, he just had to give in to the selfish desires that he’d been harboring since middle school! Since the first moment that their eyes met, Jingyi was the first person to have ever approached him with a smile, not being nosy or touchy. Jingyi was the only friend that he had at school, the one person who made the hell hole look worthwhile, the one who made him want to do better.
His anxiety was growing as his thoughts spiraled down a well, too far deep to try and go back. The water was rising at his ankles, it was silent, and his thoughts only echoed louder in the absence of sound.
To his surprise, there was a sound; a noise so striking he could’ve sworn an eagle had flown by. Instead, it was but a mere single drop of water, it sparkled and gave light to the well. It was perhaps the most beautiful thing he’d thought he’d ever see in a lifetime.
Jingyi reached forward, the space between the two boys now no longer there. The former reached for his hands, fingers slowly interlocking, looking into the eyes of the lover he knew would spend the rest of his life with. Gazing into each other’s eyes, he could see the entire world, and in his, they could see only a reflection of themselves.
Melting in the touch of their lips that fit so perfectly against his, he let the thoughts float away, and the silence did not linger, the silence was of the raindrops themself joining the water and no longer falling.
Pulling away from the kiss and gasping for air, Jin Ling lowers his head in the crook of Jingyi’s neck. “I lent you my shoulder, now… just give me a sec and lend me yours.”
Jingyi holds in a chuckle, petting the head of his lover for having the courage to take the first leap. The courage that Jingyi was afraid to take, not wanting to indulge in the guilty pleasure towards his only friend.
“I like you, A-Ling.”
“... I like you too, A-Yi.”
