Summary
Kaito returns to earth and wakes up the next morning and starts counting—seconds, footsteps, days. He marks the days since his return from space on his calendar every morning when he awakens and wonders what it is, exactly, that he’s counting down to. There will be no more space trips, no grand finale. Kaito went to space and he came back and he’s normal now, or he’s supposed to be, living his daily life with all the people that care about him and thinking about the future and its infinite possibilities. The stars are behind him, and above him, and all around him really, but he’s still not among them, and every second away from them his heart aches further.
Due to Shuichi’s job at his uncle’s detective agency, his and Kaito’s apartment is in Tokyo. It’s a nice little spot with a balcony and lots of sunlight, but its location also means that at night when the sun goes down, Kaito stares up at the sky and sees nothing but empty blue.
