“It would be unwise,” Flint says. It is true, and he doesn’t mean it to sound like a concession, but he realizes too late that anything other than outright denial implies an invitation.
Silver’s face splits into a grin, triumphant and bright as sunlight, as if Flint has given him the most wondrous gift. He is far too close and steps closer still. The bravado returns in full force as Silver looks up at Flint and says, with all his practiced cheek, “But Captain, I am known for making terribly unwise decisions.”
“You’ve really never…?” Flint asks.
“No,” Silver admits. “I’ve wanted to though. Just never had a good opportunity.”
“And this strikes you as a good opportunity?” Flint asks dryly.
Silver’s eyes travel deliberately up and down Flint’s body; it's been a long time since anyone has looked at him with such open hunger. “Very,” he answers, voice dark and rough like velvet and Flint shivers. Silver may be inexperienced, but he certainly isn’t shy.
