Work Text:
"I want to eat this every day..."
"Huh?"
Everyone in the room made a questioning voice almost immediately after the guy's accidental slip out, Akito quickly covered his mouth. Shit. No matter how good was the pancakes she made in Ken-san's absence, it was a big mistake of him to say something like that out loud. He should've just said 'it's good' and stop at that.
See what you've done? Akito scowled when a teasing grin appeared on her face.
"What did you say, Akito? You want to eat Shiraishi's handmade pancakes every day?" Touya asked in sincere curiosity to make sure of what he just heard, not at all having the malicious intent to tease him, but Akito still replied to him rather grumpily.
"It's just a slip of tongue, slip of tongue!" he said persistently. "It's natural to give some exaggeration you don't actually mean when eating something good. People often say 'it's so good I'm dying' too, don't they?"
"But that means Shinonome-kun finds An-chan's pancakes to be that good, right?" Kohane confirmed before excitedly turning to the one who made the pancakes. "An-chan, Shinonome-kun said your cooking is so good that he wants to eat it every day!"
"Oi, Kohane—! You don't have to repeat it again!"
"Hee... so Akito wants to eat my cooking every day? That kinda sounds like a marriage proposal, don't you think? Aha, so Akito has that kind of thought towards me~"
"Shut up, that's not it at all!"
Everyone laughed as they continued to tease him about it.
At that time I was completely joking about it just to tease him though.
An thought absentmindedly while feeling a slight sense of nostalgia. Who would've thought we really ended up marrying each other. Well, we're still a newly-wed now.
Now she lived in the same apartment room as him, with a picture of their wedding from some months ago was displayed in their living room, that no one would've ever considered it at all before. You really wouldn't know what could happen in the future, An nodded to herself as she continued washing the dishes, ignoring the plea that was coming from behind her.
"Hey... Let's eat your pancakes today."
The reason for her sudden reminiscence of the past was because the person, whom she wore matching wedding ring with, had been clinging to her requesting for his favorite food since earlier.
Contrary to her, who had a whole day off from work for today, he was supposed to be getting ready to go to his workplace because of his sudden work call now. What was he doing coming to the kitchen when she was doing the dishes instead and suddenly started talking about pancakes while wrapping his arms around her waist? Akito probably wouldn't let go of her until she finally said she'd make the pancakes for him.
"Hmmm... I'll just get Akito one from the newly opened cafe we talked about the other day, alright? You also said you want to try it, didn't you? Good thing I'm free today."
When she suggested that to him, he clearly looked dissatisfied.
"No... I'm thinking of eating the one you make today, it's always delicious."
In other words he didn't want any except the one she made today, that was flattering in a way and she felt a bit like butterflies was fluttering in her stomach, but what could be the reason for his sudden spoiled act? An silently wondered.
She glanced sideways at her husband who was burying his face in her shoulder, hugging her. Oh, An finally realized. He must have a bad mood because his day off got interrupted today. Yeah, that must be it.
Akito sometimes bought home several cakes without warning, including her portion somehow because he was always as thoughtful as that, and she started to notice his sweets craving happened whenever he had a bad day. Today must be one of those days, An nodded.
Although it was still strange how he specifically requested for her pancakes today.
Even after they became an item he wouldn't usually act this spoiled towards her, it was endearing actually, she felt kind of special seeing him pleading to her like this.
What he said about eating her pancakes every day was, of course, not true because no matter how much you like it you'd still get sick of it eventually if you eat it every day. Even so, she had cooked pancakes for him often since they were still dating and his fondness for her cooking didn't seem to lessen after years. An felt the need to tease him about it.
"Akito, be honest with me. You're just marrying me to eat my cooking, especially my pancakes, for free right?"
"Ah, so I've been found out?"
A very annoying answer. An pinched his hand, making Akito cringed in pain.
"Akito is unbelievable... I'm telling my parents to take me back home!!"
"Just kidding, I'm just kidding," Akito pulled her to him again. It would be no use focusing on doing the dishes now, so she turned off the water for the time being and turned around to face him. He laughed a bit at her annoyed face, "A stupid question deserves a stupid answer."
"Then? Why are you so insistent about only wanting to eat the pancake I made today?"
"It's not just today, you know."
"Hm?"
When An tilted her head, he tightened his hug.
"I'm actually always comparing store-bought pancakes with yours. I can't just ask you to make them for me all the time since that would be too much work for you, but I still think the one you make is the best after all," He said, burying his face in her shoulder again. "I'm feeling totally awful today because my day off with my wife is being cut short, I don't think just store-bought pancakes would be any of help..."
"Hee...?"
"That's why, I'm asking you to make some pancakes today. Let's eat it together after I get back. Then I'm off now, An."
An made a dumb sound. Be it his act or his words, everything surprised her today. Yet, Akito refused to elaborate more. After giving her a light kiss on the lips, he released his hug and left the place. Once An finally returned to her sense hearing the front door closed shut, Akito was no longer there.
"Huh... he left so fast."
An returned to the sink, planning to continue her work that got interrupted earlier, but his words from earlier kept replaying in her mind.
Her face was slowly getting hot as she thought again about his rare honesty. I know I'm good at cooking... although I still wonder if my pancakes are that good he likes it to that extent, or rather how he begged her for it gave her a boost of confidence and an itchy-kinda feeling of happiness.
So, you want to eat the pancakes I make because store-bought pancakes aren't enough to heal your bad mood? I see, I see, that means I'm your only best cure, aren't I?
The sides of her mouth lifted upwards.
"...I see, so that's how it is."
Well, since he already made it clear to her about the reason, she'd make it for him after all. She'd make the pancakes a lot bigger than usual and he had to eat them all without leaving anything behind or she wouldn't make it for him ever again... Just kidding, I know how much you can eat.
"Alright, let's make the most delicious pancakes today~!"
As she clenched her fists with great enthusiasm, she thought she'd spoil him at least for today once he came home.
