Work Text:
Their plan was perfect.
Absolutely perfect.
Shap smiled to his brothers, ready to execute it.
Pup and Tundra nodded back their readiness as Razzle peeked around the corner before signalling the all clear.
The corridor was empty.
Shap was ready.
It was go time.
Shap wasn’t sure why they were sneaking, they could just walk down the corridor, but a few paces later they were at the target door.
They crowded the door as Tundi quietly cracked it open, and they all slipped inside.
“Do...”
“Shhhh.”
They had to whisper if this was going to work. Or else they’d get caught and it would all go wrong.
“Do you have it?”
“Shap?”
“Ink left it on his desk, I've got it.”
He held the bottle up, despite the fact that the room was totally dark and none of them could actually see it, and he couldn’t see...
Thunk.
“Shap!”
“Sorry.”
“Just stay quiet.”
Their target was dead ahead.
A soft snore sounded.
“Wow, Stone wasn’t kidding, when Commander Fox crashes, he crashes hard.”
“I can’t believe Shap tripping didn’t wake him up.”
“It’s not my fault. The box looked like the floor and the wall.”
“Ok, just pass it here.”
Shap handed Razzle the bottle. After all, of the four of them, Razzle was the one with experience.
It was so hard not to laugh as they worked.
This was going to be so good.
Razzle froze and they all fell silent, waiting, barely breathing.
Their Commander shifted, made a few small sounds in his sleep, but didn’t wake.
He felt Razzle shift forwards again.
“Raz hurry.”
“I can only go so fast.”
“Shhhh, all of you.”
Shap bit his lip, trying not to laugh. This would be so good.
Or they’d be in so much trouble.
Maybe both.
“He’s not going to wake up, Hound says when he really sleeps, nothing will wake him. He was up for a week straight; we won't wake him.”
“Still, hurry up.”
“Ok I'm almost done and... yes, let’s go.”
They held in their giggles as they snuck out, Pup pulling Shap through the doors gap before he could end up hitting the frame instead, and they sprinted back to the safety of the rec room.
.
“WHICH SHINY!”
“Uh oh.”
“Shhh, shhhh, act normal.”
“WHO!”
Fox burst into the rec room and Shap tried to keep a straight face as he spread his Souls hand, fully aware that it was the worst cover his vode could have grabbed. Pup, Razzle and Tundra each had their cards to their faces, trying to use them to hide their smiles, and Pup placed a card down with a 5 of some colour.
He was guessing yellow, but he wasn’t sure.
It wasn’t like they were actually playing.
Just trying to avoid suspicion. Couldn't have picked a game that wasn’t based on colour.
“What did you do?”
The harsh whisper came from behind.
“Ink, kriff you made me jump.”
“Oh no.”
“Kriffffff.”
“Kaaaark.”
Uh oh, something was wrong here. Had Razzle dyed his face by accident or something?
“What?”
“Oh for the love of...” Ink rubbed a hand over his face, “you didn’t let Shap get the dye, did you?”
He watched his brothers all deflate.
Uh oh...
“What did I do?”
“Did you grab the dye from the left or right of my desk?”
“Uhhh, left, no right, no...” Shap lifted his hands to do the L shape. Sometimes he couldn’t believe he’d once been top of his classes for things much more advanced than knowing left from right, or having the spatial awareness not to walk into doorframes. The explosion had changed everything.
Now if someone could just fill him in.
Muffled laughter rippled round the room, alone with some cheers and a few joking whistles.
“I don’t know, this suits him.”
“I’m guessing we didn’t dye his grey streaks corrie red like we planned?”
“Pink.”
“Bright pink.”
“I think that’s the dye Bubblegum used.”
Shap wasn’t sure he remembered pink. If he’d had the chance to see it. His vode had described it sometimes as being like the colour of some of the trainers when they got angry, but bright pink, like the flowers and Bubblegum’s hair, he wasn’t sure he’d ever seen.
Still, his brothers were laughing and smiling.
Even Fox was smiling, despite the anger. A real smile too.
“Shap, you grabbed the pink dye.”
“In Shap’s defence, why in Sith hells did you send the monochromatic dyslexic to pick up the dye.”
“Ink raises a good question. I'm assuming by the whispers this was your handywork?”
“Commander Stone... we... uhhh...”
“Nice job. I like the pink, it really brings out the bags under his eyes.”
“When I find out who did this, its KP duty for a month.”
“Worth it.”
“Definitely.”
