Work Text:
Hyeongjun closed his eyes, resting his head on his forearms as the history teacher drabbled on about the industrial revolution. He could care less. History has never been his forte, he’s always been much more interested in music. He started playing the guitar in elementary school, and then took vocal lessons in 7th grade. He’s written a few songs himself, as well.
A loud voice calling his name woke him up from his fantasy. He lifted his head, blinking the sleepiness from his eyes.
“Hyeongjun, I called you three times. I’ll have to assign detention for this, you know. So tell me now, who invented the light bulb?” Mrs. Bae asked him.
Hyeongjun blinked, his mind completely empty. Who even did invent the light bulb?
“Uh… Leonardo Da Vinci,” he offered, hopeful. The teacher let out a sigh.
“No, it was Thomas Edison, Hyeongjun. Please pay attention next time, and you will know the answer.”
Hyeongjun let out a sigh, slightly annoyed that he had to do well. Why was this important if he was going to focus on music for the rest of his life? Who cared who invented the light bulb, anyways?
He heard a snicker from the other side of the classroom and glanced over, only to quickly look back down at his own desk with a slight blush on his face.
Lee Jooyeon, the most popular kid in the school. He was the youngest in his class, but his good looks made everyone like him anyways. All the girls wanted to be with him, and all the boys wanted to be him.
And of course, Hyeongjun with his annoying gay brain, had the biggest crush on him. What can he say? He was attractive, and tall (but not taller than Hyeongjun), and was actually really good at singing. (Hyeongjun had walked in on his private lesson one time by accident, although that’s a story for another day.)
But Jooyeon probably didn’t like him back, after all. He’s most likely straight, and would pick on Hyeongjun endlessly if he found out he was interested in guys. But Jooyeon had been pushing away Chaehyun, and she was drop-dead gorgeous, why wouldn’t he want to date her?
Maybe he had a crush on someone else instead.
Hyeongjun left the classroom as soon as the bell rang, not wasting another moment in that horrendous class. As he entered his next room, math, he couldn’t help but notice Jooyeon already in there, talking to one of this friends.
How did he get in here so quick?
Jooyeons friend, Jiseok, looked over at Hyeongjun as he came in, sitting in his seat. He said something to Jooyeon, then Jooyeon turned to look at him. Hyeongjun swore his entire face turned red, so he looked down at his backpack, refusing to make eye contact with the boy.
He noticed a presence next to his desk as he was getting out his homework, and looked up, to see the boy he had been watching standing right next to him, leaning over his desk.
“Hey, Hyeongjun.”
“Hey,” he responded.
“Sleeping in Mrs. Bae’s class, huh? You’re pretty brave, but honestly, she deserves it. She’s not the favorite teacher in the school, that’s for sure.” Jooyeon let out a breathy laugh, and Hyeongjun awkwardly followed suit.
He’s never been in this situation before, Jooyeon never talks to him.
“Do you want tutoring for that class, hyung? I’d love to help you out. Especially if you’re not paying attention, you’re never going to pass her exam.”
Hyeongjun felt his whole body grow hot, imagining all of the scenes in fanfictions where someone tutored their crush.
“I mean, I don't really mind, but if I’m wasting your time I really don’t want to do that.”
“You wouldn’t waste my time, don’t worry.”
And that’s how Hyungjun found himself at Jooyeon’s house on Saturday night, a history packet in front of him.
“So this chapter started in the 1750’s, and the industrial revolution started in the 60‘s, right after that.”
And for the first time, Hyeongjun found himself understanding history. He scribbled down the answer to a question, and looked back at Jooyeon, who was already looking straight into his eyes, absentmindedly biting his lip.
“Jooyeon, I did it!” Hyeongjun exclaimed, and Jooyeon smiled.
“I always knew you could, hyung.”
“You don’t have to call me hyung, we’re almost the same age anyways,” Hyeongjun responded.
“Okay, Hyeongjun. So after that…” Jooyeon continued teaching him the content, and Hyeongjun couldn’t help noticing the closeness of their bodies, and Jooyeon’s warm chest against his shoulder as he leaned over, trying to read Hyeongjun’s answers.
At one point Hyeongjun noticed Jooyeon looking at him again, and kept eye contact with him, confused at what Jooyeon was thinking.
“You’re so cute, Hyeongjun.”
“What?” He couldn’t believe his ears. His crush saying he was cute? Yes, please.
“Can I kiss you?”
“Huh?” Was the only sound Hyeongjun could produce. This is literally what happened in fanfictions, not real life!
“You do like guys, right? I felt like you did, but now you’re scaring me, I’m sorry if I made you uncomfortable.” Hyeongjun could only nod, his entire face the color of a tomato. “So I can kiss you?” Hyeongjun nodded again. Jooyeon leaned in, and Hyeongjun could notice the smaller details of his face that he wouldn’t have been able to catch from far away. Jooyeon’s breath felt warm on Hyeongjun’s skin.
Jooyeon finally placed his lips on Hyeongjun’s, after what seemed like centuries.
They were warm, and soft, and Hyeongjun loved it. Their lips moved together for a moment, until Jooyeon pulled back, smiling his pretty smile.
Hyeongjun’s brain malfunctioned, and he just sat there, staring at Lee Jooyeon.
“So what did you feel? Did you like it? If not that’s fine, we don’t have to do anything abou-“ Jooyeon started a ramble, which Hyeongjun found kind of cute, but he cut the other off.
“I really liked it.”
And there was Jooyeon’s smile again, but more genuinely excited this time.
“Then what do we do? Are we, like, dating now? Or, like-“
Hyeongjun placed his lips on the other, cutting his rambling off once again. When he pulled back, he said
“We can be dating if you want.”
Jooyeon nodded. Hyeongjun liked this idea. He liked it a lot, actually.
