Work Text:

“So, my nephew wants us to take him trick or treating this year.” you said to Harry as soon as he opened his door.

Although you had been gifted the ability to perform magic, that trait had not passed down to your sister, meaning you still had a strong connection to the muggle world. Part of that connection included your six year old nephew, who you loved dearly, and vice-versa. He loved you so much, in fact, that he wanted you to be the one to lead him around as trick or treated.

“That shouldn’t be a problem.” Harry said, and opened the door wider to let you in.

“Well, trick or treating is in thirty minutes.” you explained sheepishly and stepped aside to reveal your nephew all decked out in his Spider-Man costume. Both of you looked up at Harry with faux innocent smiles as you watched your boyfriend’s eyes widen.

“You mean today?” he asked, rather redundantly.

Before you could respond, your nephew jumped in. “Of course, silly! We have to go get candy for me!” he shouted excitedly. A laugh escaped your lips and as you watched Harry’s expression at your nephew’s words, you knew he wouldn’t be able to say no to that adorable face.

“Alright, let’s go then.” Harry said, and you hugged him, silently thanking him for being so wonderful and supportive.

However, before the three of you could get any further, your nephew stopped in his tracks and looked up and you and Harry, worried. “Wait, you don’t have costumes.” he pointed out, rather dejectedly.

Right as Harry was about to claim you didn’t need costumes, an idea popped into your head. Five minutes later, the two of you emerged decked out in old pairs of your wizarding robes, both of your wands in hand. It wasn’t the most creative route you could have taken, but it was genuine. Besides, no muggle would think anything of you and Harry walking around in full robes carrying what they would believe to be wooden sticks on Halloween.

For the next few hours, you and Harry watched your nephew merrily bounce from house to house, collecting as much candy as could fit in his bucket. His excitement was so infectious, you could help the smile that constantly graced your features as you and Harry swung your arms back and forth. The two of you had received many complements from passerbyers, all marveling at how realistic your costumes looked. If only they knew.

Even a little girl dressed up in her own witch costume had stopped you and Harry. “You look so pretty. I love your costume.” she told you.

With a warm smile, you leaned down and whispered to her that you liked her costume even more, and that she looked like a proper witch. That comment sent her off with the widest grin, Harry couldn’t help but give kiss you over how sweet you were with all the kids you passed.

Eventually, the night began to wind down and you huddled closer to Harry as you, Harry, and your nephew headed back to your flat. “My hands are so cold.” you complained, but instantly felt Harry’s arms wrap around you waist, and you reveled in the warmth.

“I know a way to warm you up.” Harry spoke, and your eyes snapped open in confusion and worry about the meaning behind his sentence. But before you could scold or question his motives, he opened his mouth once more. “Hot coco!” he shouted, now directing the conversation towards your nephew who cheered in excitement.

Rolling your eyes, you playfully glared at your boyfriend, but chuckled anyway. It would be the perfect end to a perfect night.
