Work Text:
After he had graduated from Hogwarts, Harry never felt particularly connected to Halloween. Being a wizard meant he was surrounded by magic everyday, and Harry had certainly more than his far share of tricks for one life time. But, when the two of you had started dating, and you proclaimed your love for the muggle traditions of holiday, he couldn’t help but love your enthusiasm.
October 1st, Harry had stepped into your shared flat and found the place nearly decorated from top to bottom with Halloween decorations. Most of them were cheesy, muggle decorations, bearing no actual resemblance to the creatures they were modeled after that you had come to known in the wizarding world, but that didn’t matter. As the days passed and the weather continued to cool down, it seemed that each day, Harry would find some new trinket you had collected, though he could only shake his head with a smile on his face before he gave you a quick peck on the lips.
One evening, there was a small knock on Harry’s home office door, and he turned to see you standing in the door frame. “Do you…maybe want to have a scary movie night?” you asked, bashfully.
Harry looked at his pile of work, than back to you, and nodded. You let out a squeal of happiness and ran to the couch where you had already set up blankets, snacks, and all the movies you wanted to watch. Patting the spot next to you, you immediately curled in Harry’s side when he threw his arm around your shoulder.
As your marathon began, the jump scares and suspenseful music kept you on the edge of your seat with your eyes only focused on the tv screen, but as the sky outside darkened, you found yourself holding onto Harry a little tighter, and hiding your eyes from the screen for a little longer. Although the graphics and costumes were obnoxiously fake, you couldn’t shake the fact that so many of the scary movies took place in such normal environments - like your own flat.
When you and Harry were decided to call it a night, Harry told you he needed to finish up some paperwork before bed, so you offered to clean up. The whole time, you were jumpy and every little creak and groan of your flat caused you to freeze up and double check that all the doors and windows had been locked.
As you were getting changed, a tree branch whacked against your bedroom window, and you screamed and dove under the covers. Hesitantly, you popped your head back out, but the darkness of your room combined with the glow from the moon outside casted odd shadows throughout your room. While you willed for sleep to overcome you, you tried to think happy thoughts to distract yourself from the foolish notion that a serial killer or supernatural being was hiding in your closet. Eventually, one too many creaks of your old flat got to you, and you bolted from your bed straight towards Harry’s office.
Harry turned to the source of the noise behind him and let out an ‘umph’ when you ran to curl yourself into his chest. “Lay with me?” you mumbled, your face hidden in his chest.
“Did the movies scare you?” Harry chuckled as he ran a comforting hand up and down your back and mumbled the question in your hair.
You only nodded, and tried to fight the childish feeling welling up inside of you, knowing full well that Harry didn’t see it that way. He only wanted to make you feel safe and loved.
“You know we’re wizards right?” he continued on, and guided you back towards your bedroom and straightened the covers pulling pulling them back and gesturing for you to get back into bed. “We could stop them with a flick of our wands.”
“I just want to lay with you.” you whispered and pulled him into bed with you, curling into his chest once more.
“I’ll always protect you, love.” he solemnly promised as he wrapped his arms around you and pressed a gentle kiss to your forehead.
