Chapter 1: Fallen Down

Chapter Text

You feel the wind rushing past you.

It's cold.

No, that's not it.

The wind isn't cold, you are just damp.

Damp from the rain you tried to escape from.

You found a cave.

With a hole.

A deep whole where jumping in would be fatal...

But you jumped.

And now you are falling, knowing that you are not gonna survive.

But something inside you resonates.

No.

You don't want to die, you scream.

But nobody came.

You hit the ground with a loud thump.

"Hello?" Frisk hears a voice call out to him. It sounds beautiful. He opens his eyes to be meet with a girl with brown shorts,
a green and yellow stripped shirt, nutbrown hair, pale skin and crimson eyes.

"Oh, you're finally awake" the girl says, a bit more shyly than before

.

"Heya. Er-, who are you?" Frisk asks, entranced in her eyes.

"Greetings, my name is Chara" she responses with a bit of hesitation in her voice

"I'm Frisk" he says after finally getting out of his trance like state. "Probably a weird thing to ask, but am I dead?"

"Dead? I don't know, but I don't think so? Why would you be dead?" She looks at him, a hint of concern hidden on her face.

"Well, I've fallen down a hole of doom, haven't I?" He says as if that was a completly normal sentence. For the first time Frisk tears his eyes away from hers and takes in his surroundings. He seems to have landed on a bed of beautiful golden flowers. They seemed to have cushioned his fall...somehow. As Frisk skims over the cavern he has landed in he starts following it up until he sees the place he has fallen down from, high, barely visible from down here. "I-" He stutters in awe. "I fell from up their?!"

Now, Chara too, looks up and Frisk can see her jaw drop. "I- I think I see why you'd think you're dead, now" she mumbles. "Does your head hurt or something?"

"Nah, it's fine" Frisk tells her, only now noticing how heavy his head felt. Frisk tries to stand up a bit too quick, and staggers backwards. He gets a hold on himself before Chara has a chance to support him. He notices that she is a bit taller than he is.

"You probably have a concussion or something. We need to find someone who can patch you up." She looks him up and down. "We also need to handle the bruises that are all over your body."

Frisk looks down at himself, his chocolate-brown skin is bruised all over and his blue and purple stripped shirt is damp and ripped in a few places. He chuckles nervously "Ye- Yeah, my bruises...that I've got...from the fall..."

Chara raises an eyebrow at Frisk, suspicious at his words, but she decides to drop the subject. She Looks over to a tunnel that leads to an  purple arch with a weird symbole on it. "We should go, find somebody who can help you out." she points over her shoulder to the tunnel.

He gives her an decisive nod and begins walking, only to realize that he is completly covered in seeds. "Wow," he says, shaking of some of them. "These seeds are quite sticky" He look up to Chara, noticing that she has none on her form at all. "How aren't you covered with them?"

She looks down, confusion clear on her face but then smirks. "Well, maybe I didn't Face-PLANT as hard on them as you did"

He stares at her, chuckling a bit dispite himself. "That. Was. Awful. I hope you haven't plant on telling any more of these."

She giggles at his sentence, losing it at the expression on his face when he noticed what he just said. Now Frisk also has to laugh. "Anyway, are you from here? Or did you fall down here like me?"

At that Chara suddenly stops. Frisk turns his head to her in confusion to see the shocked expression on his new companion's face.

"Chara?"

"I- I don't...remember?"

"You don't?"

"No, I don't."

"You really don't?"

"No, I don't!" She yells. Her eyes widen and she holds her hands up to her mouth. She sighs "My apologies, it was not my intention to raise my voice. I...only remember my name, that I have a brother I love dearly and..."

He waits for her to elaborate but she doesn't. "It's okay... I'm sure you'll remember again. Maybe we can even find your brother?" He says in hope to lighten up her mood a bit. She looks up at him, a determined frown on her face. "Yeah, let's go."

They both start moving again and they finally come to the purple arch. They enter through it and see a little golden flower ...with a face(?) on a spot of grass. When Frisk looks over to Chara he sees that while there is suprise written on her face, it's significantly less than on his own.

"Howdy! I'm Flowey. Flowey the Flower!" it exclaims with the most cheerful voice to compliment his innocent smile. Frisk could have sworn he can hear a very goofy and bouncy melody quietly echo throughtout the cavern.

"Greeti-" "Hmmm...You're new to the Underground, aren'tcha?" It asks, cutting off Chara and completly ignoring her.

"Golly, you must be so confused" it continues. "Someone ought to teach you how things work around here! I guess little old me will have to do. Ready? Here we go!" Frisk body goes stiff as an unknown sensation rushes over him as his SOUL gets pulled out of his body. It's vibrant crimson illuminating the whole room in deep red, casting dark shadows of Frisk and Flowey.

"Wow..." Chara's jaw drops to the floor.

"Gee, that's one heck of a SOUL you got there, buddy! Anyhow, talking about SOULs, it's the very cullmination of your being!" Flowey proclaims, recovering fast from his bewilderment. But Frisk could have sworn he saw something else on his face. Was it fear?! "Your SOUL starts of weak, but you can grow strong if you gain a lot of LV. What's LV stand for? Why, LOVE, of course!" It explains, happily bouncing from left to right in rythm with the music. "You want some LOVE, don't you? Don't worry, I'll share some with you!" It winks at Frisk, magic bullets erupting from it's body. "Down here, LOVE is shared through little white...'friendliness pellets'"

"That doesn't sound right...." Chara mumbles to herself behind Frisk.

"Are you ready? Move around! Get as many as you can!"

"Frisk, I don't think tha-" A cry from Frisk jolts Chara as the 'friendliness pellets' connect with his SOUL. "Frisk!"

Flowey's innocent smile turns into a demonic grin "You idiot. In this world it's kill or BE killed Why would ANYONE pass up an opportunity like this?!" More spinning pellets start materializing around Frisk. "DIE" Flowey hollors with a laugh Frisk will know he's going to have nightmares about.  If he survives that is. The pellets start closing in, not enough space to dodge inbetween them. Frisk closes his eyes, resigning to his fait when the headache from the fall suddenly lifted. Wondering what happened, he opens his eyes to see Flowey with an puzzled expression that mirrored his own, the pellets all gone. A scorching flame erupts seemingly out of nowhere and Flowey gets launched into a corner with a surprised squeal escaping it's mouth.  Frisk turns to see where the fire ball that has saved his life came from only for his eyes to land on a huge goat like lady in purple gown with the same weird symbole on it that ornamented the arch from the tunnel before. The music shifts to a welcoming and warm melody as she kneels down infront of him, warm magic healing all the bruises left on his body.  Frisk instantly new that she is a mother.

"What a terrible creature, torturing such a poor, innocent youth... Ah, do not be afraid, my child. I am Toriel, caretaker of the Ruins.
I pass through this place every day to see if anyone has fallen down. You are the first to have come here in a long time. Come! I will guide you through these catacombs."

Frisks SOUL retracts into his body again, dimming the glow of the cavern. "This way." Toriel announces cheerfully, going on ahead through another purple arch with the same symbole on it. It seems to be important.

"Well that was certainly a thing that just happened, right Cha-" Frisk turned only to see the shocked face on Chara, her eyes glassy, as she stares to where Toriel has left. "Are you okay?"

"Yes. It is indeed fine. You needn't worry about me."

It sounds so distant and cold, Frisk doesn't like it when she talkes like that. "Do you know her?"

"I thought I said that you needn't worry about me, no?" She sighes "But to answer your question, I don't know." after a long pause she continues. "But she does seems familiar."
