Work Text:
It was a warm may night and Larcei was sitting on one of the „Important conversation” chairs. They were just two plastic garden chairs that were spray painted to look like the night sky or at least a cartoon version of it but she still felt safe on them. After waiting for a while she heard footsteps from the door.
„You said you wanted to talk about something important?” Shannan asked, sitting down in the other chair.
„I... Yes. I'm just trying to find the correct words.” Larcei replied. She'd never really told anyone about that before so of course, it was difficult to put it into words.
The silence during the short break in conversation seemed to be so thick it was tangible. So thick that one could cut it with a knife. And Larcei wasn't even sure why she was worried about saying it or finding the correct words. She knew he'd understand and if he didn't he'd at least accept her. So why was she struggling with finding the correct words?
„Larcei, you know you don't have to force yourself to tell me anything, right?” Shannan broke the silence with a question.
„I know, I know” Larcei replied „It's just... do you know what Asexuality is?” Maybe figuring out how much he knew about the topic was a good start?
„I've heard of it before and I believe I know the basics” Shannan said. „But what does that have to do with this?”
Great! She wouldn't have to explain anything! „Well... I think I might be Asexual. And I wanted you to know that” Larcei said, maybe a bit quicker than she'd intended
„Oh? Well, I'm glad you trusted me with this.” Shannan said. „Do you want me to tell the others or will you do it yourself?”
„I'll tell them myself. But thanks for the offer.” Larcei replied. „Oh and also I think I like girls.” They were already talking about those sorts of things so she might as well mention that too.
„Well, it's good to know that too. I suppose.” Shannan smiled and added „Do you have anything else to say? It's getting a bit late so you should go sleep soon.”
„No that's everything. Thanks for listening to me and I'm going to go now!” Larcei said and left to go to her room, smiling the whole time.
About three days later Larcei noticed a little package laying on her desk and decided to open it inside it was a black ring with a few tiny stars engraved on it and a note saying „After our talk, I decided to read up on Asexuality so I would know more than the basics. While reading I learned about the fact that a black ring worn on the middle finger is a symbol for asexuals so I thought you might want one. The stars are there so you have an excuse if someone you don't trust asks about it”
She put it on and smiled. It fit like a glove.
