Work Text:
No one knew what was going on with Shoto and Vox during the alliance's party, except for Shoto going back to his cabin early because he was too drunk and Vox returned to the party alone.
Shoto noticed that Vox was keeping a distance from him. The older man didn't throw a joke back at him again when Shoto said something flirty. He respected that, he gave what Vox wanted, distance between them. They still conversed like usual but much less flirty now. He didn't want to lose what they already had. He respected Vox as a partner, a good friend. Someone he looked up to, someone who stole his heart.
Of course people would keep a distance after getting such an outburst drunk confession, it seemed that Vox didn't really take a notice that the younger man really confessed and tried to seduce him, not because he was drunk. Shoto sighed inwardly as he packed his stuff. Today was the last meeting day at the guild alliance. Everyone was going back to their own guild.
Shoto, as the guild leader, he couldn't stay moping around over his crumbling heart. His guild members needed him.

The night before.
Shoto just happened to see Vox talking and laughing out loud with his friends from his cabin window. They seemed to have so much fun. He used to be there too. The rouge had been busying himself on solo missions a lot and partnering with someone else, to at least take his mind off Vox.
It was sad that no one noticed that Shoto trying to pick up the pieces of his broken heart behind his bubbly and cheerful act.
Love made people do things they never before. Shoto just found himself handwriting an apology letter (or perhaps a love letter?) to Vox. He could just do it by sending an email and stuff but he felt that he couldn't pour his feeling through an electronic mail.
Hey Vox
You know it's me, Shoto.
I am really sorry that I weirded you out last time. I understand that you want me to keep a distance from you. I'd probably act the same too if someone's drunk confessing to me and trying to suck my dick.
But you know, I might still do that to you even if I am not drunk.--Shoto cursed himself when he noticed what he wrote. He quickly crossed this part pitch-black that it became unreadable.
What I am trying to say is, I love you Vox. Not just as a friend. I don't know what I am saying, I mean what I am writing now--Shoto quickly added this part.
I just can't explain, you're supposed to be the kind that I should kill. I was supposed to hate you, because you are a demon. But... You know... you are more than that. I couldn't bring myself to kill you.
I guess I started falling for you when I decided to pester you, I just loved it whenever you said my name with that beautiful voice of yours. Okay I admit it that I loved to annoy you, to make you malding because that's the time when I had your full attention.
I love you Vox. I love you being you.
I am not asking for you to return my feelings. I just know that you can't.... I don't want you to hate me...
I am sorry I just want to be free from this feeling now, because I want us to stay friends, if you don't mind it.
Please allow me to confess again for one last time.
I love you so much, Vox
Shoto.

The departure day.
Everyone was saying their good byes to each other. It would be a while until the next alliance meeting since they were coming from different countries.
"Shoto, are you sure you're not joining us? We are heading back to the same road. Your guild member can pick you up half-way"
Vox's gentle voice startled him up. Shoto quickly shook his head.
"Nah, I am good. They're already on their way. It'd be hussle if I change the meeting point" The younger man fidgeted on his feet. He got the letter in his pocket, but he couldn't muster up the courage to hand the love letter to Vox.
Would the demon be happy when he read Shoto's letter? Or disgusted?
Shoto was like having a panic attack. He cursed himself mentally, he never got this nervous when slashing demons in the rain blood, but now handing a love letter to a demon? He felt like his lungs being depleted.
"Shoto, I need to leave now. We are going to text each other right?"
Again, that soft voice brought him back to reality.
"Umm of course" Shoto nodded.
"Well see you next time then" Vox joined his friends into the vehicle.
"Ah... Vox wait!"
"Mm?"
"U-uhh... nothing. Have a safe trip, Vox"
That's all Shoto could say. He just watched Vox driving away with glassy longing eyes. Pulling out the small light purple envelope from his pocket, To Vox.
"Some things are better left unsaid... right?" He mumbled softly to himself. He just stood there watching the vehicle disappearing to another side of road.
Looking up at the sky, Shoto took a deep breath. He blinked and sad smile formed on his lips "I'm going to be okay".
It hurts to let go, but sometimes it hurts to hold on.
