Work Text:
“Why do I always get the worst jobs?” a young orderly snapped, he was charged with giving their most dangerous inmate a cleaning and her daily exercise.
“Cuz I said so, Jimmy. Now get to it before I assign you to bed pan duty too.”
“This is clearly harassment if yah ask me!”
“Well no one asked you- scram!”
Jimmy stomped away from the front desk, cell keys clanking at his hip. He was the new guy at Badlands Mental Clinic, he wanted to be a doctor to help people and impress all the ladies back at home, not to be sponging down vegetables. He hated this part of the job more than any other.
The hall of padded cells was never quiet, someone was always screaming about something. None of them were his assignment though. The one that was happened to be deathly silent. It held an inmate that defied almost everything they did to her. She was nick-named, ‘The Pyro’- after what she did to her neighborhood. She was supposed to be the most dangerous person they kept. The doctors say she’s much stronger than she looks, doesn’t care about anything around her, not even herself, and has bitten countless staff members. Jimmy had even heard of a nurse who quit because the inmate bit a chunk of her cheek off, rumors are that she swallowed the meat whole.
Hogwash. Jimmy thought, pulling the small window open to look at this ‘monster’. She was just some girl that had been here for most of her life. He could see that she didn’t care about anything. She was a psychopath who didn’t care about anyone. But, the rest of it...Jimmy wasn’t sure if people were just playing things up just to scare him. He wasn’t gonna fall for it, he was going to prove he was braver than anyone else.
She lay strapped to a bed, a straight jacket held her arms tight, and a bite cage covered most of her face. Kinda reminded him of the villain from The Silence of the Lambs. The thought of Hannibal being a frail little girl made him laugh.
He unlocked the door and swung it open wide. He was supposed to follow a strict line of rules, but this girl was so drugged up that he doubted she knew he was here. All he had to do was wash her, move her joints, then get out. Simple as can be. Looking over at her, her eyes were open, but she moved all around like she was in REM sleep. It was off putting to Jimmy. As he worked to unbuckle her restraints, she would mumble every now and again, along with turning her head to look at him. Those eyes sent a shiver down his spine.
Trying to shake it off, Jimmy moved quickly but realized a mistake halfway done with removing her straight jacket, he had left the water basin outside the room. Sighing, he left the room as quick as he could. But, once he turned his back, the inmate had sat up and placed her feet on the floor. Pulling her arms free of the jacket, she slipped it over her head and tossed it to the other side of the room.
The sound of the metal clacking together got Jimmy’s attention. He spun around, shocked to see her standing. She moved faster than he could react. She was on top of him in seconds, using her bare hands to snap his jaw bone out of place and push it back into his throat. He couldn’t scream, he was drowning in his own blood. The only sound he could make was a pitiful gurgle. Before he knew what was happening to his mouth, he saw her hands closing down around his face. She jammed her thumbs into his eye sockets. The world around Jimmy turned red- then to black as his eyes were ripped free of their sockets. The inmate lifted his head and slammed the back of it down so hard he felt his skull crack on impact. The padded floor did nothing to soften the force of her onslaught. She pounded his head until he was nothing left but a puddle of mush and something that kind of resembled a face.
Standing up, she shook her hands free of any leftover viscera and left her room. After all these years, she was finally free. Walking down the hall she whistled. It was a sweet song that would have brought someone comfort if it wasn’t for the blood dripping down her hands and painted her gown.
On her walk she found an open fuse box. She tilted her head and ripped the live wires out, causing them to spark and catch the wall on fire. An alarm went off, warning the rest of the hospital of the raging flames. It was too late tho, the fire had grown too strong and fast to be stopped. The inmate slipped out the back door and went on her merry way, causing more destruction.
