Work Text:
Salt air rushes into the room, the sound of the waves crashing echoes through the space. Taehyung, having just pulled the door open, inhales and lets the sea run through his veins. The air fills his lungs as he breathes, cleansing, almost purifying, his entire being. His hair falls across his face as he looks around the room, his eyes searching for someone.
Jimin enters the room with a pile of blue and purple obstructing his vision. He steps slowly, carefully, in the direction of the water and stops only when he reaches the door. His gaze falls upon Taehyung as he lowers the blanket from his face. The latter flicks him on the forehead and pulls him outside, past their deck and into the sand. Jimin trips over himself, the blanket compromising his balance, and he falls into Taehyung’s back.
Taehyung’s voice, with his face now buried in the warmth of the sand, grows muffled. Jimin rolls off of him and collects the blanket from its position on the ground. He shakes it off, and the sand flies with the wind into Taehyung’s hair. Taehyung ignores the way Jimin is laughing and runs his hands through his hair, grains of sand falling out with the action.
The beach is quiet today. Taehyung thinks back to when they first moved here, deciding that living by the ocean would be the best thing for them. He doesn’t think they were wrong. More often than not, they’re outside, sitting and working before the waves.
Jimin points to a spot on their right, occupied by an umbrella. Taehyung nods and moves to stand up. He shakes sand out of his shirt, sending dirty looks in Jimin’s direction. Jimin, unaware, readjusts the blanket and tucks it under his arm, his other hand reaching for Taehyung’s. They walk hand-in-hand through the sand to their umbrella.
The waves land softly several meters in front of them as they spread the blanket out. Jimin makes quick work of laying on his stomach, forcing Taehyung to open up the umbrella on his own. As Taehyung fights to keep it up, Jimin shrugs his shirt off and tosses it in front of him. It lands in the sand, and Taehyung prods it with his foot after finally winning against the umbrella.
Light falls upon Jimin’s back from where he’s moved into the sun, accentuating the curves of his shoulder blades and the dips in his waist. Taehyung lets his eyes linger before they dart around the space. He sees a black bag sitting lonely on the wood of their deck. Taehyung runs to it, only occasionally slipping in the sand, and slings it over his shoulder. Its contents rattle around as he runs back to his partner.
Taehyung sits cross-legged next to Jimin, a bottle of sunscreen in his hand. It opens with a click, and he pours a walnut-sized amount into the palm of his hand. He rubs his hands together until it’s spread evenly and drags them across Jimin’s back. Jimin lays calmly, his head resting on his arms as Taehyung massages the lotion into his skin. Taehyung feels Jimin’s breathing slow, and he dips down to kiss his cheek.
As Jimin’s back rises and falls with his inhales and exhales, Taehyung digs his phone out of the bag and drops his head onto Jimin’s back. The sun goes dim as he pushes his sunglasses down over his eyes. He squints at the screen either way and swipes through his music. There’s a playlist titled 'jazz on the beach' that he stops on. The sound of the ocean sings in the background. He presses play.
Taehyung closes his eyes and focuses on the music and the sea. His chest moves up and down in time with Jimin’s breathing, lulling him to sleep. He turns his head and leans over to press a kiss on his boy’s neck. Jimin stirs at that.
“I love you,” Jimin says, his voice laced with sleep.
Taehyung responds by running his fingers through Jimin’s hair. He’s quick to fall asleep again, and Taehyung lets his eyes close once more. The music blends with the crash of the waves, further relaxing both boys.
It's quiet for the next two hours; sound only coming from Jimin moving in his sleep, the jazz on Taehyung's phone, and the dull tapping of Taehyung's fingers on Jimin's sides. Taehyung busies himself with a book about latte art. It was an unusual gift from a friend, but he's starting to find it fascinating. Taehyung wants to make latte art for Jimin every morning before he leaves for work. He thinks Jimin would appreciate that.
As the sun sinks beneath the horizon, after Taehyung has finished reapplying Jimin’s sunscreen, the moon drapes a white glow over the beach. Jimin sighs as he wakes up again and rolls onto his back. He catches Taehyung’s eyes and tilts his head at him. Taehyung tosses his phone backwards onto the blanket, music still playing from the speakers, and drops himself onto Jimin’s chest. Jimin giggles as Taehyung props himself up, arms on either side of his face, and peppers him with kisses. He reaches up to grab Taehyung’s face and pull their lips together. Jimin feels him relax before he scoops a handful of sand and sprinkles it in Taehyung’s hair.
Taehyung shakes his head, sand falls around them, and repositions himself. He lays next to Jimin, despite feeling betrayed, and laces their fingers. Waves continue to crash behind them as they fall asleep, bodies intertwined.
Under the light of the moon, blanketed by the sound of the sea, they dream like the world was made for them.
