Was it the idea of George? Was it the idea of waking up every morning tangled up with George, the soft curve of his spine pressed against a broad chest and strong arms securely enveloping his small frame? Was it the idea of being a part of something so immeasurably far away from what he considered to be normality?
Was it the urge to attain the attainable? To want what you can never have?
To pretend is to be at peace. And Dream and George have been pretending for two years. George pretends that his best friend isn't in love with him and Dream pretends that he's okay with tearing himself to the bone for someone who refuses to meet him halfway.
But when the safe distance of the Atlantic between them dissolves to nothing and they must exist within each other's spaces, how long can they pretend? How long can they hold back the tide before the dam breaks?
