Work Text:

The sound of wonderful, magical music only aided the feeling of weightless flying as Chip and Rebecca spun around the ballroom floor.
Chip still couldn’t believe it was real. Rebecca’s smile was so genuine, and her steps were so lively as she looked into Chip’s eyes.

“Has anyone ever told you you have a lovely face?” She smiled.
"Many, many people..." Chip tried his best to feign a response that didn’t make him seem lame.

Maybe Rebecca reached out to touch his face. Maybe their heads leaned together. Chip couldn’t tell. His eyes were closed.

He opened his eyes, expecting something to happen now- and it was still dark.
His senses dulled out, and a voice told him that he was a townsperson for the purposes of the game.
Chip’s mind was drifting elsewhere, though.
He was still holding Rebecca by the shoulder, and even through the darkness clouding his senses, it felt..
cold.
His awareness returned to him in time to hear the body thud onto the floor.
A thin layer of disbelief stopped him from freaking out. It was all just a game, right? The body looked real, but..
In his heart he knew Rebecca was really dead. They had only just met, and another one had already left him!
The cycle continues, he supposed.
