Work Text:

Trust no one.

She remembers seeing that somewhere. Maybe in an American show that her papa liked to watch on Thursdays. Or maybe she read it in one of those survival books that Kim would read religiously back when they were ten.

She also remembers laughing at the phrase; almost as if she were daring the universe to prove her wrong.

Because she trusts her friends. She’s known most of them for forever (Nino and Kim specifically). She’s cried with them, she’s giggled with them, she’s hugged them. She trusts her friends.

Ladybug trusts her friends.

But it would probably be more accurate to put that in the past tense. She trusted her friends.

That is until she made the worst mistake of her life where Felix pretended to be Adrien, stole her yo-yo, and then sold her out to the enemy. He betrayed her. And now Hawkmoth had all the miraculous.

Did trust help her then?

Trust no one.

Trust no one.

Was anyone who they said they were?

Trust no one.

How well did she know her friends anyway? How many of them would lie to her? How many would deceive her? How many could she trust?

Two? Three? None?

That’s a lie. She knows exactly how many people she can trust. She could count the number on her hand if she wanted to.

Chat Noir. Alya. Tikki.

The list is short.

Trust no one.

Chat Noir. Alya. Tikki.

Chat Noir.

Trust no one.

She could live with that.
