Work Text:
When you wake up from your slumber, you wake up to bright sunlight filtering through the window, to your boyfriend’s empty side of the bed, and the smell of what you hope to be breakfast permeating the door of your bedroom. Settling yourself further into the comfort of your sheets, you try to blink the excess of sleep from your eyes. You and Touya are definitely not morning people, so it’s a miracle he’s up this early, even if it is a weekend.
Well, you think, anytime is as good as any to get up. Rolling yourself over to stand, you stretch your arms up until you hear that one particular joint of your body pop and you absentmindedly think about making a chiropractor's appointment. Being a hero is decidedly not good for your bones, unfortunately.
Finding one of Touya’s larger shirts, you lazily slip it on and stumble out of the bedroom, sleep still claiming the fog of your brain. Coffee. There has got to be coffee in your system right now. You scratch right above your hip and yawn. Mornings are evil, why are they still happening?
You sluggishly traipse to your open kitchen and stop to admire the bare back of your boyfriend, all corded muscle with inky black tattoos that trail and swirl over the marred flesh of his burn scars, who’s whistling a jaunty tune while flipping over some bacon. Damn, you got a handsome man who can sear breakfast meats. A fine catch, if you say so yourself.
Touya is the sweetest, you inwardly coo. The thought of sharing a simple breakfast with your beloved makes you feel all ooey and gooey inside.
You approach him while intentionally making some noise to alert him to your presence, and attach yourself like a squid with your arms circling his waist and your forehead finding its home at the center of his back between his shoulder blades. After kissing the spot of his back your mouth hovers in front of, you mumble something that vaguely resembles a good morning greeting.
“Morning, doll, sleep well?” Touya asks gently, sleep still evident in the deep timbre of his voice.
The sweetest, you think again, the sweetest man you’ve ever seen. You stand on your tiptoes to look over his shoulder at the pan he’s utilizing for breakfast, enjoying the sight before you. You place another kiss on him, this time his shoulder, and mutter softly directly in his ear, “I always sleep well with you beside me.” Not technically a lie, because you love sleeping next to him. He just happens to snore like a fucking bear sometimes.
Touya hums and flips over the meat he’s searing on the stove. He reaches to the right of the stovetop to place four slices of bread in the toaster. “Keep talking like that and I might be eating you for breakfast instead.” You can’t even see his face and you just know he’s waggling his eyebrows salaciously. You detach yourself with an exaggerated groan and go start up the coffee pot.
Whoever said Touya is a sweet man is a liar, actually.
Touya’s hand darts out to catch your wrist to bring you into the strong planes of his chest. He hooks his chin over your head, nuzzling into your hair lovingly, and uncaring of the grimace that appears on your face. “Aw, baby,” he starts annoyingly, “didn’t you wanna cuddle with me?” He slides his freezing hands up your shirt and rubs up your sides in an effort to warm them up. Poor circulation is a bitch, you think. And the man has a fire quirk, it should be illegal to have cold hands. The sacrifices you make in this relationship are truly astounding.
“Love you.” Touya says affectionately, then presses a kiss to the crown of your head. Your face is smooshed against his shoulder. “I think you’re obligated to say it back, considering I went to all the trouble of making us some food and all.”
“Ah, yes, the trouble you go to to make sure I stay fed in the mornings. The horror.” You huff out a laugh. “I love you too, by the way. Even without you burning breakfast.” Touya’s eyes comically widen as he remembers.
“Shit!” He whips his head around and frantically saves the poor food from being blackened by the prolonged use of heat. You snicker at his lack of mindfulness and return to the coffee pot. That’s a much better use of your time right now. You’ve got to grab the creamer too, to make the drink as sweet as you like it. Like a normal person. Even with Touya’s defensive words about it ‘being so good, baby, it’s just pure caffeine and not sugar water!’, you’d never drink straight black coffee.
You stand watching the black liquid drip and listening to Touya let out a string of curses, idly thinking about everything you need to do today. You drum your fingers against the countertop to the pop song that’s playing on the radio. Maybe you should go over to see Rei and Enji today, it’s been a while since the both of you visited; and Touya could complain all he’d like about his father, you knew he was a daddy’s boy at heart. He’d rather die than admit that, though. (To anyone but you, of course.)
“Do you have any plans for us this morning besides breakfast, honey?” you inquire, topping off your steaming mug of coffee with some french vanilla goodness. You turn to see him setting the table. “I think I’d like to go see your parents for a bit today, if that’s okay.” His face makes a grimace as you sit across from him, and he stabs a fork into his food. Touya contemplates for a few seconds before responding in a slightly irritated tone, “You know mom’s just gonna keep asking when she’s gonna be a grandma. We ain’t even married yet for fucks sake.” He shoves another mouthful of food into him and huffs. “She never bothers Yumi or Nat with the baby talk. Just cuz I’m the oldest don’t mean I’m having any brats right away.”
You hum noncommittally and let a smile grace your lips, getting an idea. “So,” you start innocently, “we aren’t married yet , huh?” You tease lightly, hoping to get a funny reaction out of him. Which backfires completely.
He looks at you seriously, completely calm save for a shitty little smirk. “Uh, yeah. You’re kind of it for me, you know.”
You were already in love, but Cupid’s dumb little arrow just fucked up your heart with that sentance.
Blushing and hoping to steer the conversation anywhere else because of sheer embarrassment, you mention the single rose in a vase that sits on the table. Touya must’ve bought it. You take a single petal in between your fingertips and relish the silken feel.
“Pretty flower, what’s the occasion?” you joke.
“Well, I’m hoping that racking up the romance today gets me laid by my totally gorgeous boyfriend later.” His shitty little smirk grows to a shitty little grin and he puts his hands behind his head.
You raise an eyebrow and level a look at Touya. “Since when do you have to hope ?” You both have healthy sex lives, thank you very much.
His eyes darken just a little with desire. “Hoping that we can try out that thing we talked about.” He answers simply with a shrug.
What thing is he even referring to and oh yeah—
Heat rises quickly to your cheeks so quickly, you’re certain steam will shoot out of your ears with one wrong move. You quickly stand up and declare you will be getting dressed for the day and swiftly exit to your shared bedroom, listening to his good natured laughter from the other room all the while.
Touya Todoroki is decidedly not a sweet man.
—
“It’s way too fucking cold outside for us to be here. We should be cuddling in bed right now.”
Your boyfriend pouts and trudges up to his parent’s door through a light smattering of snow that is falling gently to the ground, early afternoon sun being carefully hidden through an array of clouds. You hide your amusement at his irritation within, squeezing his hand a little to show support and comfort. Realistically, you know he’s more upset about leaving the safe confines of the home he shares with you rather than not wanting to see his family.
He kicks the excess snow off his boots haphazardly and you follow suit, though much more carefully, and urge him to ring the doorbell for you. He does so with no complaint, still keeping your hand secured safely within the grasp of his own.
When the door opens, you’re instantly snatched into the arms of your “future mother-in-law” as Rei likes to say. It warms your heart that she already thinks of you as one of her own.
“Ma! Stop gettin’ handsy with my boyfriend!” Touya seethes with no heat behind his words, stepping into the foyer and closing the door behind him.
His mother just coos and you wrap your hands around her and relish in her comforting aura. “Good afternoon, Rei.” You greet her, ignoring your boyfriend’s tantrum from behind you. Pulling back, she fixes you with a glare, though the twinkle in her eye and the twitch of her lips lets you know she’s joking.
“I thought I told you to call me mom from now on.” She lays her head onto her hand and hums lightly. “I just know one of these days my son will finally pop the question and give me a son-in-law to spoil.”
“You have three actual sons!” Touya gripes loudly and hangs his coat on the rack. He motions for you to shed your coat and you do so. “Are none of us precious enough for you to spoil already?” He hangs up your coat right after and takes your hand again to follow Rei through the manor, her tinkling laughter echoing through the warm hallway and seeps into your bones like a balm. Everything about her just oozes loving warmth, despite the ice quirk she possesses.
You’re led into the sitting room where Enji is lounging in his chair, reading a newspaper with eyeglasses wedged firmly on his bridged nose. Shockingly enough, Shouto and Fuyumi are on the opposite couch together along with a third boy you vaguely recognize. You feel like you should know this kid, but you let it go immediately considering you’ll most likely get his name at some point this afternoon.
Enji takes the moment you all walk in to look up from his newspaper. “Touya.” He greets gruffly, “Good to see you and your boyfriend could take time out of your schedules to see your mother and I today.”
You smile at that. “Always good to see you too, Enji! Fuyumi, Candy Cane, always a pleasure to see the both of you as well.” Shouto grunts at his nickname and turns his attention back to the other boy, and Fuyumi gives off a cheery, “Hello!” You’ve been intertwined with Touya for so many years that you have also been involved in his siblings' lives for years as well. You're thankful you’ve cultivated a good relationship with both his brothers and his sister, though more so with Shouto than Fuyumi and Natsuo. After all, Shouto was just a kid when you started dating Touya, so he grew up always knowing you were going to be around somehow. Now Shouto was in his last year of UA, how time flies.
Before you can ask who the mystery guy is, your boyfriend beats you to the punch. “Who’s the kid?” He asks while sitting in an unoccupied chair, dragging you down onto his lap shortly after. Touya curls a bicep around your waist to hold you nice and close. You snuggle further into his side and eye the way the kid’s freckled face burned red with a blush at the question.
The kid opens his mouth to speak, “Oh, I’m Izuku Midoriya! I’m Shouchan’s frie-”
“Shouto’s new boyfriend.” Enji says shortly, eyes not leaving the newspaper.
You almost fall out of the fucking chair laughing at the way Shouto flamed out with embarrassment.
“Father! Did you just out me?” Shouto dragged a hand down his face in exasperation.
Fuyumi and Rei snickered together and Enji just blew steam through his nose. Touya was right there with you guffawing loudly. “Shouto, heterosexual teenagers do not call their male friends ‘baby’. I did not believe Touya when he did it, what makes you think I would believe you?”
Aaaaaand that shut you up real quick. You can remember the day the Enji Todoroki, Pro Hero Endeavor and number two hero on the ranking board, asked sixteen year old you and Touya if you were engaging in ‘sexual intercourse’ with each other. It was considerably even more horrifying when Touya put on a filthy grin and exclaimed, “Hell yeah, i’m banging him! Have you seen that ass?” and put a hand up for a high five with a then fourteen year old Natsuo. Thank every God that Enji and Rei weren’t homophobic, but they both definitely had Enji stiffly walk you both through ‘The Talk’. A fond memory now, perhaps, but you definitely were mortified beyond belief for months afterwards.
“In my defense,” Touya cut in through laughs at his brother, “I wasn’t actively trying to hide my relationship.”
Rei stepped further into the room with a plate of finger sandwiches she must’ve grabbed from the kitchen and set it on the coffee table. She goes to kiss her husband on his temple and speaks aloud in response to Touya. “We know, dear. Your old bedroom shared a wall with your father and I.” It was your turn to flush red with embarrassment. Jesus, you cannot catch a break today, can you? Your boyfriend doesn’t even have the decency to be as embarrassed as you either, he’s smug as can be knowing he was a menace as a teenager.
The group of you all comfortably converse together about what’s going on in the other's lives. Shouto and Izuku discuss their final year at UA, Fuyumi mentions funny little anecdotes about the kids she teaches, with Rei excusing herself halfway through Touya complaining about one of his patrols to whip up some lunch on account of most of her family being present at the moment. Natsuo, unfortunately, would be skipping out on the impromptu get together due to him completing residency at a hospital. It’s sad you wouldn’t get to see him until the next get-together, but you could always annoy him with a text of a meme or two.
Eventually you detach yourself from your boyfriend, to his annoyance, and explain that you want to assist Rei with lunch preparations while you’re here.
“This is why we think mother loves him more than you, Touya.” Shouto mocks snidely as you exit the room, taunting his older brother with the Todoroki family inside joke. “He actually helps out around the house.”
Touya simply snuggles into the back of the chair, unhappy with the absence of your warmth. “I did the work and brought him into the family. I believe that earns me brownie points, yeah?” He closes his eyes and relaxes into the plushness of the armchair. Ah, the luxuries a rich father can provide for his adult children when they deign to visit him occasionally.
Fuyumi smiles brightly. “So when’s the wedding?” She leans forward, eyes sparkling with excitement. Between her and the family matriarch, Touya’s not sure which one is worse when it comes to your love lives. He lets out a long groan at the question, ignoring it. Shouto decides he’s on a warpath today and breaks the lingering silence. “Big brother hasn’t asked yet, because he’s not sure his boyfriend would say yes.” Touya snaps an eye open and almost growls the next words.
“Shut. Up.”
Shouto raises an eyebrow in return. “Touchy subject? You know I was just teasing.”
Enji folds his newspaper in half and sets it on the side table. “Touya, that boy is almost as obsessed with you as you are with him. It’s in my professional opinion that he’d say y-”
“Christ, why are you all so hung up on this!” Touya straightens his back and throws his hands up into the air. “I’m doing it on our anniversary, get your nose out of my business!”
“What’re you doing on our anniversary?” You say, walking into the room followed by Rei. Touya felt his brain freeze at the question, but was able to quickly recuperate.
Putting on his most charming smile, he says, “Taking you out for a fun night on the town, of course! Only the best for my lover.” Shouto rolls his eyes while Fuyumi just giggles.
Jokes on Touya, you already found the ring hidden at the back of his underwear drawer.
Smiling to yourself, you settle yourself back on his lap and give him a small peck on the lips.
He returns the kiss with another and smiles warmly at you. He dips his head close to nuzzle his nose against yours. “I love you.” He says, quiet.
“I love you too.” You say, just as quietly, like it's a secret the both of you share just for that moment. The special moment that is broken by the youngest Todoroki brother.
“So would it be a spring wedding or a winter wedding? I can see both for you.”
“Shut up , peppermint patty, I swear to God!”
“Thank you for bringing that up, son. Let it be known I believe we could make a spectacular winter wedding that would benefit from the legacy of the Todoroki name-”
“Father, I will burn this house down with everybody in it!”
You smile into Touya’s neck as he argues with his family about your future together. How lucky are you to be a part of such a supportive family?
