Work Text:

Roy.

Johnny puts his car in park.

Stupid Roy.

Johnny steps out and locks his car.

Stupid, amazing Roy.

Johnny looks both ways.

Stupid, amazing, beautiful Roy.

Johnny climbs the porch steps.

Johnny loves Roy. He’s not sure when it happened, but he does. It consumes him some days. He’s sick with it on others. It’s all he can think about most days.

He needs to tell Roy; he needs to tell Roy, or he’ll burst. So, he rings Roy’s doorbell and waits.

And he waits.

And Roy takes too long.

And Johnny regrets deciding to make his confession on Roy’s porch while it rains like some cheesy, embarrassing romantic comedy. He starts to turn around, but he hears the door unlock.

“Johnny? What are you doing here?” Roy asks, smiling like he’s never seen a better sight at 3:30 on a rainy Tuesday afternoon.

Johnny’s throat is very dry. “I need to, um, I want to tell you something.”

“Well, don’t do it in the rain, junior. Come inside,” Roy says, ushering Johnny inside with a wave of his hand.

Johnny steps past the threshold and shakes off some of the rain. He shifts awkwardly on his heels, trying to find the words he repeated over and over on the drive here. This is different from the drive here. Roy is listening now; it is not just the comforting, unresponsive silence of his Land Rover.

“What’s up?” Roy asks, covering Johnny’s growing blanket of silence.

“Um. So, I have to, uh. I need to say something. Just lemme say it, and then you can throw me out, tell me you never want to see me again, or whatever you wanna do.”

Roy’s eyebrows pull together in concern, but he nods.

Johnny finds what breath he still has left:

“I thought about kissing you today
and yesterday
and the day before that.
I know I’ll think about kissing you
tomorrow
and the day after that
and some more days after those days.
I think about kissing you
slowly
and tracing my fingers along
your lips.
I think about kissing you
in your car, in the rain, on your doorstep.
I think about kissing your
dimple, your cheek, your spot.
I think about kissing only you,
not anyone else,
just you.”

Roy doesn’t speak for a long time. Almost like Johnny really is back in his Land Rover. Maybe he really is back in his Land Rover—like his feelings for Roy have finally made him completely delusional.

But then Roy kisses him.

And kisses him.

And kisses him.

Until Johnny knows this is real life.

Until Johnny knows Roy thinks about kissing him too.
