Kate crouched down low, holding Nate in her arms. She moved forward, holding out her arm to signal Lila and Cooper to wait behind her.
She cautiously peeked around the corner, making sure the gun was still there.
It was, so she moved back to Lila and Cooper. “Stay here while I get my gun,” she ordered. “You guys have yours?”
Lila and Cooper nodded. “Alright, ready?” All three children nodded.
Kate carefully made her way over to the gun and grabbed it, along with the extra ammunition strewn around her.
She slunk back to the kids and told them to follow her. Together, they moved through the hallway to the room waiting at the end.
Kate stopped before opening the door. “We’ll go in at the count of three,” she said. “Ready? One, two, three!”
She and the kids burst into the room, firing their weapons wildly.
Clint and Laura burst out from behind the bed, shooting back at them.
A bullet hit Kate’s arm and she fell down, crying out dramatically.
“I’m hit! Oh no, you must go on without me! Save yourselves children!”
Giggling, the kids ran back out into the hallway, pursued by Clint and Laura.
Smiling, Kate gathered up the nerf gun bullets around her and set out after them.
