Hey everyone we're back with a new story- a series to be exact. This story is basically a one-stop-shop for all the ships we wanted to set sail.

This story will be updated every Wednesday (and -as of right now- we predict at least 10 chapters so far or at least 50k words)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Katsuki Bakugo glared down at the symbol on his wrist. He had no idea why or when a red blob had just randomly shown up and because he didn’t know what it was it pissed him off. He stormed out of his room into the kitchen to confront his parents and force them to tell him what the hell was going on.

“Hey, old hag! Did you draw this on me while I was sleeping?” He demanded of his mother.

Mitsuki Bakugo, who was in the process of preparing breakfast for her family, tensed her shoulders at her son's rudeness, especially so early in the morning.

“Watch how you’re talking brat!” She yelled back. “Why would I draw on you?” She asked as she turned to see what he was talking about.

Mitsuki looked at her son’s wrist, rolled her eyes, and told the brat to go talk to his father. There was no way she wanted to try and explain that to the little jerk.

Katsuki, getting more and more upset the longer he went without answers, began to set off tiny explosions in his palms. His quirk activated to show his mood and he made his way into the living room.

Luckily for everyone, Masaru Bakugo had heard the entire exchange and was prepared when his son came into view. Masaru took Katsuki’s arm in hand and looked down at the symbol.

“Well? What is it?”

“It’s the symbol of your soul mate, Katsuki. From the looks of it, it's a red rock. '' Masaru answered, calmly.

“What the hell is a soulmate?”

“Watch your language Brat!” could be heard from the kitchen before Masaru could respond. He sighed and tried to think of the best way to explain what a soulmate was to a ten-year-old.

“Well, a soulmate is someone who will love you no matter what. Someone who will always be there for you.”

“Ew gross!” Katsuki replied, with a disgusted look on his face. “I don’t need no damn extra following me around all the time. I’m going to be the number one hero, on my own.”

Masaru sighed again quietly, not wanting his son to hear him and start yelling again. “You might think that way now, son but your soulmate will only help to make you better and stronger once you find them.”

Eijiro Kirishima excitedly jumped from his bed and made his way to his mother’s room. He was beyond happy to see that, after ten years, he’d finally gotten his soulmate tattoo. He’d been fascinated by them ever since he’d seen his mother’s a few years ago and had thus found out what it symbolized.

His mother was just making her way through the door when she caught her son in her arms before he could fall over.

“Eiji, what’s got you so pumped today son?” She asked with a chuckle at her son’s antics.

“Mom! Mom, it’s here. I finally got my tattoo!” he exclaimed while jumping up and down in front of her with his wrist held above his head for her to see.

“That’s great, baby! Do you know what it is?”

Eijiro looked from her back down to his wrist and studied the design and colors.

“I’m not sure,” he said, dejectedly.

“Hey,” Ms. Kirishima said, as she put her hand under her son’s chin to lift it. “That’s okay. You have time to figure it out. Just because you don’t know now doesn’t mean you never will.”

“But mom,” Eiji whined, “if I can't figure out what it means, then how will I know who my soulmate is?”

“Son, remember that the tattoo is a symbol of your soulmate's quirk. All you have to do is figure out what kind of quirk makes an explosion like that.”

“Explosion?” Eiji asked as he once again looked down at his wrist with big round eyes. “Whoa! My soulmate has an explosion quirk?! THAT'S SO MANLY!!!”

Mrs. Kirishima laughed at that heartfelt exclamation of her son’s future mate. The vibrancy of the colors and the volume of the explosion led her to believe that her son’s partner was going to be a force to be reckoned with. Thankfully, she knew just how strong Eijiro was, both outside and in. If there was ever to be someone who could handle the explosive personality of her son’s future soulmate, it was sure to be Eijiro.

She placed her hand on his head and patted it fondly. “Yes, I’m sure they will be. Now we have to get ready for the day. Do you have everything you need?”

“Yes, ma’am.” He replied distractingly, looking down at his wrist once more.

“I can’t wait to meet them, mama.”

Tsuyu Asui let out a startled ‘kero’ when she first saw the mark on her wrist. She was sure that there hadn’t been anything on her the night before when she’d gone to bed but then again, she had been up rather late helping to take care of her siblings. It might have shown up sometime last night in between dinner and bedtime. She stared down at the mark in wonder. Why do I have a planet on my wrist and what does it mean? She thought as she went about her morning routine.

Being the oldest daughter in the Asui household, Tsu was responsible for helping her mother with her brothers. After Tsu had finished in the bathroom, she went about waking up her brothers to start getting everyone ready for school. She might have honestly forgotten all about the mark with the day's chores and errands had one of her little brothers not pointed it out that night at dinner.

“Tsu, what’s that on your arm?” He’s asked in between bites.

“I’m not really sure. I found it this morning while I was brushing my teeth.” She’d answered honestly, still puzzled by its sudden appearance.

Tsu’s mother, who happened to be passing by, overheard the conversation her children were having and decided to shed some light on the mystery.

“It’s the mark of your soulmate, Tsuyu. It means that one day, you’re going to meet someone who compliments you, who helps you, cares for you, loves you.”

“But what does the planet stand for, kero?” Tsu asked, confused.

“I’m not sure about the planet. But each soul mark is different. It has to do with your soulmate's quirk.”

Tsu took a moment to think about that. There were so many quirks around that it seemed both impossible and not that she would find someone who had a space-type quirk. After all, what else could a planet similar to Saturn stand for? The idea of finding someone like her mother described sounded nice to Tsu. She was so used to people making fun of her for her quirk that the idea of a person wouldn’t laugh at her or make frog-related jokes at her expense sounded almost too good to be true. Tsu allowed herself a moment to ponder what her soulmate might be like. I hope they’re nice and friendly. Someone who cares for others but is also strong

She knew she could have happily spent the rest of the night thinking about this new development in her life but then again, the world was big, quirks were plenty and she was only ten. Tsu decided that she would focus on her dream to become a hero; then she’d work on finding her soulmate. But if in the meantime, she came across someone with a space quirk, Tsu promised herself that she would do her best to befriend them.

Ochako Uraraka felt a few different things when she first saw her mark. The first was excited. She’d known about soul mark tattoos since she was 4 and caught a glimpse of her fathers. She’d asked him why he had an apple with arrows on his wrist and he’d picked her up, tossed her in the air, and explained all about soulmates and the marks we get in our 10th year.

“Well you see, Ochako, this mark here was the universe’s way of telling me that I was meant to be with your mom. That we were meant to be together forever.”

Ochako thought that that was one of the sweetest things she’d ever heard and he begged her parents to tell her more about soulmates and marks and love. The concept thrilled her to her core. A person that would love her unconditionally! She could not wait to experience that. If the bond that flowed from her parents despite the money issues was any indication, she and her soulmate would be fine. But she couldn’t be sure. After all, no one knew anything about their soulmate except for what was represented on the wrist. Ochako had no idea if her soulmate was a boy or a girl (not that she cared) or what kind of home life they come from. What if her soulmate was one of the rich people who hired her parents to build things for them and didn’t like having a partner who didn’t also come from money like they did? Thoughts like this were part of the reason she wasn’t entirely happy about getting her soul mark. She didn’t want to be a burden upon her soulmate because her family was poor. She wanted to be able to take her soulmate out to a nice dinner or buy them gifts without having to worry about money.

“Daddy?”

“Yes, Ochako?” He’d asked with a fond smile as he knelt beside her bed to be at eye level with his daughter.

“Will my soulmate still love me if I don’t have any money?” She’d asked in a small voice, trying her best to keep the tears at bay.

“Oh, honey!” Her mother said, rushing into the room and pulling Ochako into her arms. “Of course, they will. You and your soulmate will work together to provide for one another. And even if, for some reason, they make more money than you, they won’t care or hold it against you.”

“That’s right,” her father said. “The only thing you have to worry about right now is trying to figure out what your mark means and what you want to be when you grow up. But remember, your soulmate will love you no matter what or who you become because they were meant for you.”

So that night, laying in her bed and staring at the green leaf on her arm, Ochako decided that she was going to become a hero. She knew from listening to her parent's talk that Pro Heros made a lot of money. At first, Ochako thought she’d go and help her parents with work. After all, she had the perfect quirk for it but her parents had begged her not to. They wanted her to follow her dreams and her dreams wanted her to ensure that her soulmate never wanted for anything.

Izuku Midoriya was busy typing away on his computer on the day his mark came in. He’d woken up to find a strange new addition to his body and decided to do some research to figure out the: what, why, and how of this new bodily accessory.

He figured he shouldn’t have had much trouble. The picture on his wrist was clearly a snowflake and so he typed ‘snowflake on the wrist’ into the search bar and… got nothing. Or at least, nothing that made sense to his 10-year-old mind. He was just about to grab his notebook and pencil to take a few notes on what he’d discovered to ask his mom about over breakfast when there was a soft knock at his door. A second later, Inko Midoriya popped her head into her son’s room and smiled widely at him.

“Izu, what are you doing up so early?”

“Oh, hi mom,” Izuku responded, going to hug the woman. “I was just doing some research on this weird mark that I found on my wrist this morning when I woke up. Well, it's more like that’s the reason I woke up. At first, I felt this weird feeling on my arm but I thought it was just a part of my dream and so I originally ignored it until it started to hurt a little which is when I woke up and saw it. The internet wasn't very helpful but I was going to take some notes on the few things I found and ask you about them at breakfast. But since you’re here now, do you have any idea what this snowflake on my wrist means?”

Inko, being used to her son’s ramblings by now, chuckled as she moved further into the room to take a look.

“Oh honey, that’s your soul mark.”

“What’s that?”

“It’s a representation of your soulmate's quirk. Remember we talked about soulmates last year?” Inko waited for him to nod, “Well now that you're 10 the mark has appeared so you know something about the person who’s going to love you.”

To say that Inko was surprised when Izuku began to cry was an understatement. She mentally replayed the conversation and couldn’t think of a single thing that would make her son cry.

“Izuku! What’s wrong?” She asked, worriedly.

“Could my soulmate really love me, even if I don’t have a quirk?” He balled and it broke Inko’s heart.

She pulled her son into her arms and began to cry alongside him. Cursing the universe for his pain and praying that the person who was destined to be with him made sure he knew just how loved he was. “Of course, they will honey.”

Shoto Todoroki glanced down at his wrist curiously. He had heard his mother say something about a soul mark and how it would appear on his wrist sometime during his 10th birth year, and yet here he was. Shoto was now 11 and his wrist was still blank. He wasn’t sure why his wrist was blank and decided to bring it up to his father during a training session.

“Father, why is my wrist blank?”

Enji Todoroki’s response was quick and predictable. He’d punched Shoto in the stomach, pushing the air from his lungs and forcing him to his knees.

“Shoto! You need not worry about such things. You should be lucky your wrist is blank. You don’t need a soulmate to distract you. You’re never going to be the number one hero and surpass All Might if you waste your time thinking about useless things.”

And then he’d turned on his heel and walked away leaving Shoto to wonder about the lesson he’d just had. Could it be true? Could he really not have a soulmate? Shoto guessed that it must be. After all, it wasn’t like his parents had been soulmates when they had him and his siblings. He was a child born with one purpose and that was to be the best. Endeavor was constantly telling him that if he couldn’t bet All Might then he wasn’t worth anything. Perhaps the gods knew how impossible a challenge I’ve been given and decided to spare my soulmate the embarrassment? Shoto thought as he picked himself up off the floor.

Of course, Shoto’s siblings (mostly his sister) disagreed with what their father had to say on the soulmate matter. Shoto guessed it was easy for them to think so optimistically considering both of them wore their soul marks proudly and refused to cover them up much to their father's consternation.

“You have a soulmate, Shoto. We all do,” Fuyumi Todoroki said enthusiastically. “Your lack of a mark could just mean that your soulmate is quirkless.”

“That would suck.” Natsuo Todoroki said before Fuyumi elbowed him in the side to shut him up.

“Why would that suck?” Shoto asked innocently, tilting his head to the side in confusion.

Fuyumi sighed. “Because the world is not nice to the quirkless, Shoto. Lots of them get bullied or hurt.”

“Yeah. People think that those without quirks are useless.” Natsuo added.

“That’s unacceptable.” Shoto declared. “I will not allow my soulmate to be bullied by anyone. Quirk or not. A real hero stands up for everyone and that’s what I’m going to do.”

“They are going to love you, Shoto!”

“Really?” Shoto asked, hopefully.

He remembered the love of his mother before their father had driven her to madness and then away. He missed that love. The warmth and comfort of it.

“Yes. It’s what they were born to do.”

Shoto could only hope that she was right.

Kyoka Jirou was happily playing her guitar and dancing around while her parents, Kyotoku (on drums) & Mika (tambourine), were laughing and playing along with her. She was just about to start singing a song she’d been working on when she felt a tingling in her arm. With wide eyes, she set down her instrument and hurried to her mom.

“Mom! I think it’s happening!” 10-year-old Kyoka exclaimed excitedly.

“What is Kyo?”

“My mark.”

The Jirou family all grabbed around the young girl and watched as an 8 sided star began to form on her wrist. It was very intricate and Kyoka couldn’t tell if it had been made up of multiple arrows or triangles.

“Wow,” her mother had said when it was done. “That’s beautiful.”

“Just like my soulmate will be.”

Kyotoku and Mika exchanged an amused look. They were proud of the reaction their daughter was having in regards to her soul mark. They had agreed when they found out that they were expecting Kyoka to instill a love of music and, well, love in their daughter. They sat Kyoka down as soon as they thought she was old enough to understand and explained all about soulmates and marks. Mika in particular wanted to make sure her daughter understood how precious a soulmate was and how amazing finding that special someone could be.

“That’s right Kyo!” Kyotoku readily agreed.

The parents watched as their daughter’s smile faded into a frown. “What’s wrong? Are you worried that you don’t know what the symbol stands for?” Mika asked.

“No.” Kyoka said, “I’m sure I'll figure it out in time. I was thinking about something.”

“What’s that?” Kyoka’s father prodded.

“What if my soulmate doesn’t like music? I’m sorry mama and papa. But if they don’t then I don’t think I can love them”

Kyotoku and Mika might have laughed had it not been for the seriousness in which their daughter asked the question. Leave it to their little rock star to think of such a thing. She was truly adorable.

“Love, your soulmate is going to love music.” Her father tried to reason

“How do you know?”

“Because they’re going to love you and they’ll see how much you love it. It will inspire them to follow suit.”

“I’m going to sing and play for them. Always.”

Momo Yaoyorozu’s parents had brought her up with the very best of everything. Once they realized the complexity of her quirk, they made sure to surround her with all the knowledge she would ever need to create anything she could think would help her on her journey to being a hero. Because that was not something that was up for debate. Momo’s parents had decided that their daughter was going to be a Pro Hero and bring even more notoriety to the family name. If it wasn’t for the existence of soulmates Momo was sure her parents would have arranged a marriage between her and Shoto Todoroki. But soulmates did exist and Momo was currently sitting in the library staring down at the mark that had just appeared on her wrist.

It was only thanks to one of her tutors that Momo even knew what she was looking at. She had seen the markings on her parents when she was younger and had asked about their meaning. Her mother had simply told her that it was a soul mark and left it at that. Momo, ever curious, had then asked her history tutor if he would be able to elaborate on the subject matter.

“A soul mark is a tattoo that is a representation of your soulmate. A soulmate is a person ideally suited to another. The mark will have to do with your mate’s quirk. Once you figure out what it means and you find the person it represents, all you have to do to seal the bond is acknowledge the relationship verbally.”

Momo had been fascinated by the subject and had read up on as much as she could find on the matter and she was thankful that it seemed to be paying off. As soon as she saw the curved shape and dots, she knew she was looking at a bass clef. A music note . Momo thought to herself. That must mean that my soulmate has some sort of music quirk. She was more than ready to research further into the different types of music quirks around when her father came into the room to check on her.

“Mom, what are you doing?”

“Father look,” Momo said, holding out her arm for him to see. “My soul mark has appeared.”

“Yes, well that won’t help you become a hero now will it?” He asked in an offhand tone, completely ignoring the wonder in her voice.

“No, sir.” Momo put her head down in shame.

“Focus on your studies and being a hero. Then look for your soulmate.” And with that Momo’s father left the library and his daughter.

Momo turned in her seat, picked up her pencil, and went back to her work. Her father had a point, she knew. If she was going to be a hero, she needed to work on memorizing the molecular structure of as many useful things as possible before she applied for college at UA. Sadly though, Momo hoped that her soulmate would be someone who would help her see the fun in life because Momo was so tired of doing what was expected of her. She wanted to truly live and laugh and play.

“Whoa! Check it out!” Denki Kaminari told his mom when he saw his wrist.

“What is it?” She’d asked distractedly.

“I don’t know what it means, but I finally got my soul mark.”

Denki was pretty happy about the mark. Mostly because his 11th birthday was in a few days so he’d been pretty worried that he might not have had a soulmate. Denki wasn’t sure what he would do if that had been the case. Probably cry.

Denki’s mom turned from the sink where she had been washing dishes to look at the tattoo. “Huh.” was all she said.

“What?”

“At least one of you will have a brain.”

Denki’s face turned red in embarrassment that only got worse when he heard his mother’s boyfriend laughing from the living room.

“Ha. Good one, ma.” He’d said to cover up with blush. “I’m gonna go to my room now.”

“Don’t blow the power out again dumbass!” Her boyfriend yelled at his retreating back.

Denki hurried to his room before anyone could see him cry. It wasn’t his fault that his quirk tended to fry his brain and leave him in a dumb state. He didn’t ask to have this quirk and if he could, he’d trade it in for something else. Denki was tired of everyone always thinking that he was stupid. No one wanted to take the time to see how hard he worked when it came to his studies, and no one ever took his dream to be a hero seriously. When he’d told his mom that he wanted to go to UA University- she’d laughed in his face.

So Denki was worried about the brain that graced his wrist. If the brain symbolized a type of intelligence quirk, then he was screwed. Because there was no way that his soulmate wouldn’t be just like everyone else and think he was an idiot. Life’s not fair ! Denki cried into his pillow. Why did he have to have a quirk that made him dumb and a smart soulmate?

His only hope was that his soulmate would be as great as his friend, Kyoka claimed they’d be. Someone who wouldn't care about how smart, funny, talented, or attractive he was because to them, he’d be all those things times a hundred thousand. That thought stopped his tears. Yeah, his soulmate would be great and the Jirou’s would be excited about his mark. He didn’t need his mom or her boyfriend to celebrate this occasion with him. He’d go and surrounded himself with his real family. The people who actually cared and made him feel loved.

It would do until he found his soulmate.

If there was one thing Hitoshi Shinso didn’t need to add to his already shitty life- it was a soulmate. It wasn’t that he didn’t want one, no. It’s just that he didn’t feel as if he deserved one. After all, who would want to be mated to someone with a ‘villainish’ quirk? Toshi had heard that phrase directed at him every day (by everyone) since his quirk first manifested. He could see why people saw it that way. Brainwashing would be a perfect quirk to have for someone who was up to no good but that wasn’t him. Toshi didn’t feel as though he had an evil bone in his body. In fact, he’d always dreamt of using his quirk to help stop criminals and become a hero. Sure he didn’t know how he would accomplish that, especially with the way everyone tended to treat him once they knew about his quirk but he was determined to find a way.

So no. He wasn’t upset about the mark. He thought the symbol was pretty cool, although he wasn’t sure if he was currently looking at electricity or lighting as he hid away in his room. Toshi just felt sorry for his soulmate and was tired for himself. It had been a long day of silence and pain. Once his parents learned of his quirk, they’d left him in front of an orphanage. Then he’d bounced from house to house until he ended up here. His foster parents had demanded that he not speak when in the house for fear that he’d force them to do god-knows-what while under his control. So he’d spend his days not speaking at school (for the same reason) and not speaking at home. It was to the point where Toshi didn’t even remember what his own voice sounded like sometimes.

Toshi guessed that he was lucky. All the silence and lack of social interaction left him with plenty of time to study and learn new things. The library was more of a home to him than his current one. He would spend as much time there as possible after school let out, often not leaving until they closed the building and kicked him out. If anyone had bothered to try and talk to him, Toshi was fairly sure that they’d be surprised by just how much he knew. He didn’t have the best grades in his entire school for nothing. It was during one of his visits to the library that he overheard some older kids talking about soulmates and marks. It sounded interesting and was a subject he’d yet gotten to so Toshi had checked out a book on the subject. Honestly, it sounded way too good to be true for someone like him so he’d tossed the book aside and went back to studying psychology as a possible way to improve his quirk.

From that day forward, Toshi hadn’t given the whole soulmate's subject a single thought and had forgotten all about it until he’d seen the mark.

He sighed as he rubbed the mark, trying to erase its existence. No such luck. Apparently, there was someone out there who was going to love him despite his quirk. Someone who would think that his power was cool and good. Someone who believed that he could be a hero. And Toshi hated that he wanted nothing more than to meet this person, even if it meant dragging them down into hell alongside him.

“Whoever you are… I’m sorry.” He whispered to his wrist, closed his eyes, and went to sleep.

The soul mark that appeared on Mina Ashido on her birthday might have gone completely unnoticed had one of her friends not pointed it out. This was because, at the time of its discovery, Mina was showing off her mad dance skills on the Dance Dance Revolution game in the arcade. It had been a pretty great day for her leading up to this point. She’d been woken up by her parents singing ‘Happy Birthday to her with a cupcake and streamers, had been taken to the mall to shop for a new outfit (she got a cheetah print leotard and leggings), and was surprised by all her friends at the arcade when her parents dropped her off. So, yeah. The idea of her obtaining her soul mark right as she hit a perfect 20 step combo to the most advanced song on the game hadn’t even crossed her mind. However, once it had been pointed out to her, Mina immediately stopped what she was doing, jumped off the machine, and hurried to a well-lit area to take in the design.

“What is it?” One of her friends had asked, catching up to her.

“I have no idea!” Mina said with a laugh and a smile, “but it’s pretty.”

That was true. The mark was that of a clear triangle with a rainbow coming out of one side. Or at least, that’s what Mina was going with. She hadn’t the first clue what type of quirk that could even be for she was just happy that it was there. If there was one thing (other than dancing, of course) that Mina loved, it was the idea of finding her soulmate and falling in love with them. And if she had any say in the matter, she hoped her soulmate would be a fun-loving person, like her. Someone she could dance, gossip, and shop with. In that order.

Mina’s friends all gathered around her and stared at her mark. It was kind of cool to be the first one in her group to have their mark. It made her feel like she was more grown-up, somehow. The thought made her smile wider.

“What do you think it means?” Another girl asked.

“Umm,” Mina put her finger to her chin in thought, “maybe a light quirk or a shapeshifter?”

“What do you think they’ll be like?”

Mina didn’t need to ask what they meant. By this point in time, everyone in their society knew about soulmates and marks. It was almost as common knowledge as quirks. Just like young kids learned about their quirks when they got them, parents were expected to educate their children on the topic of the tattoos that would randomly appear on the wrist before a kid turned 11.

“I’m sure they’ll be awesome and tons of fun. They have to be because they’re going to be my soulmate. I don’t think the universe or gods or whatever would stick me with a boring person.” She declared confidently. Yeah, she was sure that they would have a great time together.

The thing about soul marks for Toru Hagakure was that she‘d always been afraid no one would ever believe her when she told them about hers since she was invisible and no one could see her. She could spend all day trying to explain when her mark came in or what it looked like and they’d have to just shrug and take her word for it. Which, in that case, might prove true because her mark was kinda confusing.

You see, what most people didn’t understand about invisibility, at least in her case, was that it wasn’t all it was cracked up to be. Sure she could pull off some pretty awesome pranks or scare people half to death if she wanted to. And she did. Often. And yeah, her stealth skills were through the roof- which was why she had her heart set on being a hero, btw. But for the most part, Toru wished her quirk was more like the type of invisibility that she’d seen on tv. The kind in movies about superheroes who could turn it off and on; she would (figuratively) kill to be able to control it so that people would be able to see her. Because let's be real, she put a lot of effort into her look. Toru was lucky enough to have parents that had good jobs so she was able to stay fashion trend ready. And don’t even get her started on the amount of makeup she had at her disposal.

So Toru would be lying if she said that she wasn’t as thrilled about getting her soul mark as others her age. Mostly because one of the first things people did when they got them was show them off and Toru couldn’t even show her family!

But that didn’t stop her from admiring the mark herself. That was another thing that people didn’t know- she wasn’t totally invisible, at least not to herself. Her newest beauty addition was a pink triangle with some weird symbols inside. As nice as it was, Toru didn’t think she was going to figure out what it meant anytime soon, which was fine because she doubted that she’d find her soulmate at 10. Toru sighed as she lay on her bed, left arm over her head so she could continue to look at the mark. It was pretty cool. She had no problem believing that its counterpart would also be cool. She wasn’t sure what she expected her soulmate to be like. Her parents had assured her that they would be perfect for her in every way as they were with one another. 5-year-old Toru sat in her father's lap with wide eyes full of bewilderment.

“That sounds wonderful, dad.” She’d said in response to his description.

“Yes, and the best part, Toru, is that they’ll be able to see you for the person you truly are.”

Now Toru wasn’t sure if he’d meant that literally or not. How amazing would it be to finally be seen by someone! But after many years of thought, she realized that that was impossible. Her quirk wouldn’t allow it. If her own family couldn’t see her, how would anyone else? No. Toru figured he meant that her soulmate would be able to see and appreciate her personality- which was almost as nice as actually being seen. Almost.

For now, Toru would just work on trying to decipher the meaning of her mark, perfecting her quirk for hero work, and praying that one day she’d find her soulmate- and they’d be able to see her for all that she was.
