Work Text:
I grab my leather coat. I slipped on my black converse, sauntering my way to the kitchen. I grab the handle of the hot coffee pot, pouring it into an old gas station cup. I press the lid onto it, bringing the cup up to my lips. God, I love coffee, the bitter taste coats my tongue. I made my way over to my backpack, double-checking I had everything. Leaning over the coffee table, I grabbed my car keys.
It was a cold morning. The beginning of October is always cold. I could see my breath fan in front of my face as I locked my door. I walked down, off the porch, and over to my driveway. I pulled my keys from my right jacket pocket, shuffling through them before finding my car key. I walked to the driver-side car door, jerking the key into the lock. I set my coffee on the roof, freeing my hands to deal with the car door. While I opened the door, I grabbed my coffee as I sat in my seat. Setting my coffee in the cupholder. I slipped my key into the ignition. My hand found the knob on the radio turning it, finding a station I liked. I pulled out of my driveway and went down the street. Some song by someone that I couldn't name off the top of my head. I rolled down the window feeling the crisp air hit my face.
As I drove, I daydreamed. Daydreamed about her, what my life would be if she liked me. What we would do together. Listening to music together, walking together, laughing together. I could picture her face. All scrunched up, head thrown back laughing. I could feel my cheeks flush at the thought. I directed my focus to driving instead of pointless fantasies.
I eventually made it to the school parking lot, spending a total of five minutes looking for a parking spot. I rolled up my window, shutting the car off. I reached to my right for my bag. I stepped out and locked my car door behind me, slinging the bag over my shoulder. I made my way through the parking lot, into the school, down the hallway, and eventually made it to my class.
I stepped into the classroom, strolling to my seat in the back. I set my bag down, taking out my notebook and a spare pencil. I began to zone out as the teacher began a long and grueling lecture. I hate this class. Well, that's kind of a lie, I hate being in this class. but she’s in this class, Diane.
I looked to my left, over towards the back corner of the room, and there she was. Her eyes glanced back and forth from the textbook to her notebook. Her bangs partly fell down in front of her face. She brushed them back with her pretty fingers. They are long and slender, slightly red on the knuckles, and adorned with rings. If I could describe her in a word it would be heavenly. Her eyes are blue like a stormy sky. Her nose was strong. It stood straight out and I loved it. Her skin is light and littered with faint freckles that darken in the sun. Her cheeks and lips were pink with a hint of a deep red. Her eyes squint and crinkle when she smiles. Her hair is a light blonde, her bangs are parted in the middle and hang to the side. The bottoms of her hair were stained a faded red from hair dye.
Her eyes shift from her paper to me. Our eyes met, our brown and blue like earth meeting sky. At that moment, it felt as if we were the only ones in the room. Her eyes were so beautiful. We stared for a moment before averting our eyes. I could feel my face flush. I glanced back at her. Her lips formed a smile. God, she was pretty.
I tried to focus back on the lecture. But my mind began to wander. I could’ve thought about anything at that moment but I thought about her. Her voice. Her beauty. Her eyes. Just her. My mood soured when I heard the bell ring. I put my notebook and pencil in my bookbag, I stood up slinging my bag over my shoulder. I dreaded it every day, right after this class. In the hallway stood Johnny, Diane’s boyfriend. They always made it a point to practically make out like they hadn’t seen each other in years. I always got nauseous and cold when I saw them together, out of embarrassment. How could I think she would ever love me. A girl.
