Music and Memories

Summary:

Memories are often associated with music.

Notes:

This was inspired by Full moon Ficlet prompt no. 478 – Fly. Unfortunately, things conspired against me and I didn't get round to posting at the time.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

'Fly me to the moon
Let me play among the stars
Let me see what spring is like on
Jupiter and Mars'

Frank Sinatra’s voice seemed to hang float on the breeze, bringing memories of Claudia, of Noah’s wife and Stiles mom.

He missed his sister in all but blood, those memories catching him unawares at times.  Those moments when it seemed as though when it felt as though all he had to do was to walk into the next room, and she’d be there.

“Peter, where the hell are you?”

And just like that, Stiles pulled him into the here and now, with that tone of voice that meant he was going to have a headache for the next day or two.  `

Probably caused by the book that had just ended up in his lap.

“You know mom liked Frank Sinatra, right?”

“Yeah, I introduced her to his music.”  Right, so, he wasn’t above trying to distract the little terror at times with stories about his mom.  Well, most of the time actually, especially when Stiles was knee-deep in research for those idiots of Scot’s who thought there were some kind of pack or other.

“When? How?”

“How?  By playing her a CD, of course.”  So okay, the wide-eyed look might have been laying it on a bit thick, but it at least made Stiles smile, which wasn’t happening much right now.

“For a time we were roommates at University…” Even though he often stared a story that way, Stile’s mind was a taken off whatever the problem of the week was for five minutes.

Maybe not what Claudia would have wished for her son, but that didn’t stop him from knowing that she was smiling somewhere.
