Chapter Text
Joe was meditating, when he heard yells coming from around the building.
“You sure that’s gonna work!?” Mumbo’s voice echoed through the monastery.
“Maybe! I don’t know!” Grian laughed in response, “ OH CRAP!” He quickly yelled, as a loud crash was heard.
Joe sighed, standing up and opening the screen, heading outside to the training area, only to find it empty.
“Grian you are one disaster,” Doc groaned as Joe walked into the living room area, to see Doc and Tango playing video games, while Mumbo was helping Grian with some project that now looked to be in pieces on the floor. Joe smiled a bit, and walked around to the backside of the TV, and unplugged it.
“Are you kidding me!?” Tango yelled, while Doc groaned.
“You need to train, you will all need to fight eventually,” Joe answered plainly.
“Hey!” Grian retorted, “I’m working on something that will help me in combat,” Joe shot a glance at the mess of parts on the floor, then looked back up at Grian, “…if I can get the prototype to work without exploding.”
“Looks unlikely,” Joe simply replied, and turned back to Doc and Tango, who had replugged the TV back in
“Ninjago is at peace, we should get a chance to relax,” Mumbo said, turning to help Grian clean up the mess he had made. Footsteps came from out in the hallway, then the door slammed open. Jamanakai Village
“Lord Ezra is back!” False yelled, sending the Ninja into a panic, “he was spotted at Jamanakai Village,”
Tango, Doc, Mumbo, and Grian all ran out to get to their dragons so they could deal with the threat, and False turned to Joe.
“Are you sure these are the right people?”
Joe sighed, “they’ll earn their true potential in time.”
“I hope you’re right.”
“Maybe a long time.”

Tango hopped onto his dragon, with Grian, Mumbo, and Doc doing the same, to varying degrees of success as Grian ended up falling face first on the ground, Mumbo dropping his scythe, and Doc being the only one to get on his dragon without any sort of blunder. Tango had fallen off a bit, but managed to get on swiftly enough. Soon, he was flying, as he watched the mailman below trek up the mountain.
“He’s not having a good time,” Doc noted, also catching sight of the mailman.
Grian laughed, “No he’s not,” he said, before pulling out his nunchucks, “do you guys wonder about why the golden weapons are so important? I mean, yeah, they have elemental powers, and something bad happens if someone gets their hands on all four, but, like, why?”
Tango shrugged, “I dunno, maybe… I don’t know.”
“Amazingly said,” Mumbo laughed.
“Race ya there!” Doc yelled, and the Ninja all sped off to Jamanakai village.
Tango leaned into his dragon, watching as the small village came into view. The race ended with a tie, but none of the ninja were content with that.
“I win!” Grian declared, hopping off his dragon and onto the ground below. The other three bickered as they walked through the town, looking around to see if they could find the man they were sent to look for.
“Incorrect, I got to the ground first,” Doc said, convinced he had won the race.
The ninja’s bickering was quickly cut short by the sound of Ezra’s laugh, and the Ninja all pulled out their weapons. They ran towards the sound, only to find someone very different. The stranger was a young kid.
“I am Xisuma Void!” The kid yelled, “Give me all the candy in town, or else!” The kid, Xisuma, was wearing a hoodie that was very sloppily made to look like the armor that Lord Ezra Void wore.
“Isn’t that Lord Ezra’s son?” Doc asked, as the ninja placed their weapons on their backs, since they wouldn't need to use them.
“Looks like it, shame it wasn’t actually Ezra, we could’ve been doing spinjitzu by now,” Grian groaned, clearly wanting to actually have a fight.
“Uh- uhm, Give me your candy!” Xisuma yelled, as both the ninja and the townspeople approached Xisuma.
“No thanks,” Mumbo said, grabbing the kid easily, picking him up, and walking over to the other ninja.
“I- I’ll release the serpentine on you if you don't put me down!” Xisuma yelled. When he didn’t get what he wanted Xisuma pulled out a large can from his pocket and popped open the lid, sending rubber snakes flying out of it. The ninja all laughed, as they hung Xisuma by his hood on a pole. As the town’s people laughed and yelled at the kid.
Doc walked over to the candy seller’s stand, buying a handful of candy, and giving it to his fellow Ninja.
“Hey Xisuma, next time try buying your candy, crime does not pay,” Tango said, as they walked back to their dragons.
“You just made me your enemy!” Xisuma elled after them.
As the ninja climbed back onto their dragons they began to discuss what had just transpired.
“What was that about the serpentine?” Mumbo asked.
“That old children’s tale?” Tango asked, “Gonna take a lot more than that to scare me.”
“It’s not just a children’s tale, the serpentine were real,” Doc replied.
“Doubt it,” Grian replied.
As Tango climbed back onto his dragon he knocked a scroll out of the bag he had left with his dragon. “I don’t remember putting this here?” He said, picking up the scroll.
“That’s sensei’s bag, you must have grabbed it in the rush,” Mumbo replied.
“What does it say?” Grian asked, attempting to pull the scroll out of Tango’s hands, “this is written in chicken scratch.”
“It’s an ancient language,” Doc replied.
“Can you read it?”
“I can try… this symbol here means prophecy, and it says something about one ninja rising above the rest to become the green ninja,” Doc said, reading the scroll.
“You know what this means?” Tango asked.
“It means that I’m gonna look good in green!” Grian replied
“No! You’re not gonna be the green ninja, I am!” Mumbo shouted as he mounted his dragon.
“Hah, we all know it’s gonna be me,” Tango retorted.
