Work Text:
Izuku would have hoped the blaring noises and lights would have served as a better distraction than they currently were. To be fair, his mind was known to be pretty loud.
At least the all the noise kept the low string of mutters coming out of his mouth hidden from the few other people at the arcade.
It eased Izuku’s mind to see that his plan to have the date at the middle of the day on a normal weekday had worked out, considering how few people that were there.
That was, until his date walked in the door.
Listen, Izuku was used to being blinded by Shoto in his normal, dark and natural tones, but this was… something else.
Shoto had yet to go further than a few steps inside the arcade, which gave Izuku a few extra beats to take it all in.
The most normal part of his outfit was the turtleneck sweater, but it was much lighter and brighter blue Shoto usually wore. On top of that was some sort of holographic jacket, which Izuku might have expected from a Harajuku model, but certainly not Shoto.
His jeans were normal, baggy denim ones, but they were ripped, including a huge one on the right leg, and it showed the black… dear fucking All Might, was he wearing fishnets?
Izuku was gonna have a stroke before this day was over.

Besides a squeaky “you look very nice” when they greeted each other, Izuku had managed to not comment on Shouto’s outfit for almost the entire date.
Part of the reason he had asked Shoto to come to the Arcade of all places was because Shoto had mentioned that he hadn’t been inside one since he was five and his brothers had snuck him out, and he didn’t remember anything but the colors, lights and fun.
Naturally, they had to try everything, and at this point, hours later, they almost had.
They were currently trying their best to beat the old Dance Dance Revolution machine, and much to his surprise, Izuku was currently winning.
His confidence quickly faded, however, when he realized why Shoto was off.
He was wearing huge platform sneakers, which obviously made the DDR game more complicated than it had to be.
When they finished and Shoto was trying and failing to show his disdain with losing this much, Izuku couldn’t hold back his question anymore.
“To be honest, I think you’d beat me if you were wearing your regular shoes…” Izuku stated softly.
Shoto looked down on his feet and lifted one of them to inspect it, like he just remembered he wasn’t wearing his usual shoes.
“You look really, really good and all, but, Sho, I gotta ask… what on earth are you wearing?”
To Izuku’s surprise, the question made Shoto snort out a short laugh.
"I know, okay? But I asked Ashido for some advice, and it went very quickly from choosing between a black and navy turtleneck, to nearly maxing my Father’s credit card on a shopping spree.”
Shoto shrugged with a small smile, before he continued.
“I wanted to say something, but Ashido was having such a good time, and she is always so kind, so…”
Izuku honestly didn’t think he could love the boy next to him any more than he already did, but things like this just kept proving him wrong.

The sun was almost set as the boys were walking back to the dorms, and Izuku was trying very hard not to overthink about how their hands were intertwined.
Their conversation was suddenly interrupted by an excited shout somewhere behind them.
“ -isn’t that your classmates?! Hey! HEY! Midorya! Little Todoroki! HEY!”
The boys simultaneously turned their heads to see who was yelling for them, and were greeted by red feathers, waving arms and an apologetic looking Tokoyami.
“Hawks!” Izuku exclaimed excitedly. Shoto raised his hand a little and nodded.
“What are you two doing? You’re not on patrol in your civilian clothes, I’m guessing?”
Tokoyami shook his head, and Hawks chirped in.
“Nope! Tokoyami just needs to learn how to have fun! And I happen to be an excellent teacher!”
Tokoyami sighed heavily, and Hawks continued;
“Speaking of fun, look at you go, tiny-Roki! Who came up with that? Are they a stylist? I haven’t had one since the whole, yanno, commission burned to the ground-thing, but this is really inspiring!”
As Shoto mumbled out the Mina-explaination, and Hawks looked more and more excited, Tokoyami looked more and more mortified.
When they finally said their good-byes and parted ways, Shoto looked like he was trying really hard to decide something, and then he got a strange, almost mischievous look in his eyes, before he looked over his shoulder, and yelled;
“Hey, Hawks, next time you see him, say hi to my brother for me!”
The highly undignified squawk coming from the #2 hero told Izuku more than he needed to know.
