Chapter Text
“Wait, just how many girlfriends do you have??” Donghyuck burst out. This was not how Donghyuck had expected her date with the cute girl in her bio class to go.
“Keep it down will you? The general public has not been given the “polyamory can be healthy for all parties” talk yet, alright!” Renjun said pointedly. Donghyuck looked around sheepishly at the staring patrons of the cafe they were in.
“Right, sorry,” Donghyuck said--this time much softer. “I was just a tad confused about why it seems like you have upwards of two girlfriends based on the way you’re talking about them? And you’re here on a date with me?” Renjun’s eyebrow raised.
“Is that a problem?” Renjun asks, leaning back into her chair. Donghyuck stutters, ears flushed.
“What? Yes? No. Most likely not? If you guys are all okay with it, there’s no reason it would be wrong. Not that it’s wrong to date them...I like girls?” Renjun laughs at Donghyuck’s blubbering. Donghyuck trailed off as she watched Renjun’s nose scrunch.
“I’m going to have to ask you to refrain from being so adorable, I think my bodily functions just shut down,” said Donghyuck, clutching her heart dramatically. Inwardly she congratulated herself on that smooth recovery. Renjun snorted.
“Please. You’re going to get along too well with Jaem for my liking. I should just never introduce you two”
“Jaem? Which girlfriend is that?” Donghyuck asked. Renjun sighed.
“Okay, so Jaemin and I have been together the longest. She’s studying photography and she’s kind of insane. Jaem and I met Jeno last year, through some club event that Jaem dragged me to. Jeno is hot as hell and plays soccer,” Donghyuck sighs dreamily.
“I know right,” Renjun laughs as she continues. “She’s got this kind of puppy energy to her, kind of like you, if you weren’t the devil incarnate,” Renjun cackles and Donghyuck pouts. “Yeah, they’re both really sweet though. Both are romantic too.”
“Wait, that's only two? It sounded like there were more though?” Donghyuck asked. Renjun’s eyes glinted as she leaned in, as if she was sharing some top secret information.
“Jeno and Jaemin are currently working on seducing a girl from Jeno’s team named Mark.”
“Mark? You mean team captain, has never lost a game, everyone is simping after her--including me--Mark? That Mark?” Donghyuck asked, shocked. Renjun nodded.
“It’s working too. It’s hard to resist them, that's for sure.” Donghyuck chuckles at Renjun’s proud girlfriend voice.
“That’s certainly exciting. When do I get to meet them?” Donghyuck asked. Renjun didn’t answer right away. She took a moment to Look at Donghyuck, just straight to her soul. Donghyuck started to get antsy under the intensity of Renjun’s scrutiny.
“Well, you seem pretty chill with the idea of having three, possibly four girlfriends, and you’re really cute. I do want this to work out, but I’m going to be honest. It’s hard to communicate and maintain a romantic relationship with that many people, it’s going to take work and commitment. You don’t have to jump in right away, this is only a first date, but I want you to know that if you want to date seriously, this is what that is for us,” Renjun said carefully, maintaining eye contact. Donghyuck could see how much she cared about her partners. Donghyuck nodded.
“I understand. I also really want this to work out.” They smiled at each other.
“Great! Here I’ll add you to a group chat and we can arrange a date time with all of us!” Renjun’s bright tone lifted the serious atmosphere. Donghyuck released a breath she didn’t know she was holding, feeling like she had just finished a difficult test.
