Inferno on the Darkest Night
Ezra looked out as he and Sabine reached the fuel pod. Teasing Kanan and Hera as they kissed, Ezra was glad that the rescue was successful. “Help her on.” Kanan told him as Hera wobbled a little while trying to board the ship. Ezra knew that she had been drugged.
Ezra’s smile vanished as a missile flew towards the fuel pod. He yelled at Kanan and Hera, though Kanan was dashing to the rising explosion. Using the Force, he held the flames back. I must help… Ezra thought as he shielded his eyes from the heat.
“Kanan!” Hera called out as she ran towards Kanan before Ezra could stop her. Kanan held out his hand and Hera froze in place. Unable to move, Hera reached out. “Please…” She whispered as tears fell. She was thrown into Ezra’s arms as Kanan stayed, still holding back the flames.
As if he could see again, Kanan looked at Ezra and Hera. “I must do this. You have to live.” The look in his eyes appeared to tell them. Then, gathering his energy, he pushed the ship as the fire consumed him.
Ezra got the scent of his Master’s burning flesh and almost hurled. “Dad…” He could only say as he started to sob. Hera broke down, saying Kanan’s name quietly. “Hera…” He breathed, but she did not reply.
Ezra lowered his head, unable to stop the tears. “Kanan, why?” Not caring if he cried himself dry, Kanan was gone. His final gaze flashed in his mind. “I did not want…” Ezra could not get any more words out as he choked. His Master is gone.
